“Digital Meta University” was invented independently by Prof. T. V. Kattimani, Vice-Chancellor.
In October 14, 2014, Seminar on Cooperation in Research and Higher Education between India and Norway held in Oslo on the occasion of the state visit by His Excellency the President of the Republic of India Mr. Pranab Mukherjee to Norway jointly organized by Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) and Norwegian Center for International Cooperation in Education (SIU).
It feels very nice to share with you my vision of a Digital University, the concept I presented in Norway; why it is needed? What are its scopes, objectives and attributes? And, further, why finally we need a Digital Meta University; and how it could help enhancing and strengthening the objectives of higher education.
A Digital University may be termed as an institution of higher learning without walls which caters education and promotes research through cloud means and where we can get and cater paper-less higher education everywhere and to everyone. A Digital University has become imperative today because of many reasons: the exponential augmentation of expected number of learners, worldwide concerns of equitable distribution of resources and the availability of opportunities to all of relevant and quality education etc. asserts the requirement of the digital University.
Chief of its many objectives is to:
a) bring the collaborative universities into common digital boundary by transcending the geo-political boundaries;
b) encourage the collaborative activities at national and international level;
c) set up knowledge umbrella with the collaboration f universities/institutes from within the countries and abroad;
d) promote and encourage the multidisciplinary research work jointly at the same time taking the advantage of individual specialization into consideration; and
e) createthe teaching-learning environment for the expansion of employment opportunities.
We need DMU also to integrate all different conceptions of universities i.e. Formal University, Virtual and Distance University, Education University, Online University, Meta University, Corporate University, Smart University etc.
Dear friends, we can look forward that the DMU would be the beginning of travel-free and distance-less education system and at the same time it would also strengthen and encourage stabilization of Indian and Norwegian collaboration in the field of education and research. It would be one of the most highly advisable steps of the Govt. of India to realize the concept of digital India through DMU.
Now, the University would automatically become Paperless and E-Governance Compatible University on the application of DMU. Apart from bringing industries and corporate companies within the physical boundaries of constituent universities of DMU closer, it would establish digital science parks, digital technology parks, digital industrial parks etc. in the vicinity of concerned universities conveniently.
Since the DMU encourages the Universities covered under it to share their infrastructure, experiences and resources, the Indo-Norwegian Digital Meta University will lay, in addition to high academic standards, the emphasis on research and on theoretical and practical aspects of learning.
