History of Namo Buddha Stupa
A long time in the past, many immeasurable eons ago, our teacher the perfect Buddha was practicing on the path of learning. This video shows how he was overcome with compassion when he saw a tigress tormented by starvation and offered his body to her without a moment's hesitation.

The pilgrimage site of Namo Buddha is about forty kilometers from the Boudhanath Stupa. Located on slightly elevated land, it is a pleasant and out-of-the way place. The landscape below resembles an eight-petaled lotus, and the sky above has the form of a wheel with nine spokes. In this wide panorama, some mountains glisten white like a conch shell or a crystal. On other mountains, the groves of trees seem to gleam with emerald and turquoise jewels. In summertime, southern winds bring coolness; in wintertime, the warm, gentle sun is like the clear and radiant face of youth. The flowers bloom bright and multicolored. In the blue vault of the sky, clouds gently gather and turn all shades of red at daybreak; they are beautiful in wondrous hues that fill space with their canopies and banners. Like a heap of white silk scarves, mists drift slowly from place to place. From the clouds, the drums of thunder resonate; lightning flashes like a slim dancer’s quick movement; and fine showers fall in brightness. In sum, all the harmonious conditions needed to practice samadhi are present at this sacred site. Merely coming here inspires one’s faith; renunciation and weariness with samsara naturally arise. As it is said: “In the supreme place of a solitary mountain retreat, any activity is virtuous.” In brief, Namo Buddha is a place of pilgrimage highly esteemed by people from all over the world, East and West.
After Great Being offered his body in generosity to the tigress, people found it difficult to travel through the region for fear of all wild animals, so they developed the practice of reciting “Namo Buddhaya” (“I take refuge in the Buddha”) to dispel their anxiety. To this day, the local inhabitants call the area Namo Buddha. As time passed, villages gradually appeared, and cultivated fields extended from the houses. The ancient stupa has become a special place to accumulate merit through activities such as circumambulation and making offerings. People come from all corners of the world to visit the site and make the traditional offerings of butter lamps, a fresh coat of white paint for the stupa, and a pleated cloth that encircles the base of its spire and ripples in the wind. In the past, when there were no roads for cars, only a modest footpath led to the site, and it was very difficult to reach. Nowadays, cars of any size can make the trip without a problem. In olden times, on most nights when the moon was full, a tiger would appear near the stupa; the caretaker and many local people would see it. It is said that later when cars, electricity, and other modern technology arrived, the tiger was no longer seen. Most of the local people in this area are Buddhist, and even to this day some can read Sanskrit.
About eight kilometers below the stupa in the town of Panauti are ruins said to be the palace of the king Great Charioteer. Even today, on the fifteenth day of the fourth Tibetan month, the people of the region have the custom of setting out a gilded bronze statue of the Buddha and gathering to perform ceremonies all day. At another interesting site about three kilometers below the stupa, a small temple is said to contain the remains of the Prince Great Being’s mother. Inside one can see an image of her carved into stone. Further, in the woods below the stupa, a little spring gives what is known as blessed water. About a fifteen-minute walk up from the stupa, one can visit the place where the prince offered his body in great generosity.
If you are willing to take a local bus from Kathmandu, you should first go to Ratna Park Bus station, which also known as Old Bus Park (Puraano Bus Park). You can book a ticket and take a bus from there to Banepa. The bus goes through Koteshow then Bhaktapur and then finally reaches Banepa. From Banepa you have to change buses. Book a ticket at the counter for Namo Buddha (a bus which goes up to Dhapcha passes through Namo Buddha, so you can take that bus as well). The bus goes past the Dhulikhel bus station.
You can also trek from Banepa to Namo Buddha passing through Panauti and Sangkhu.

EXPLORING the LARGEST NEPALESE STUPA of BOUDHANATH in KATHMANDU ????
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit Boudhanath which is a stupa in Kathmandu, Nepal. Located about 11 km (6.8 mi) from Kathmandu, the stupa's massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal. It is one of the largest stupas in the world. The influx of large populations of refugees from Tibet has seen the construction of over 50 gompas (Tibetan convent) around Boudhanath. As of 1979, Boudhanath is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Stupa is on the ancient trade route from Tibet which enters the Kathmandu Valley by the village of Sankhu. Tibetan merchants have rested and offered prayers here for many centuries.
Nepal is a nation between India and Tibet known for its temples and Himalayan mountains, which include Mt. Everest. Kathmandu, the capital, has a mazelike old quarter filled with Hindu and Buddhist shrines. Around Kathmandu Valley are Swayambhunath, a Buddhist temple with resident monkeys; Boudhanath, a massive Buddhist stupa; Hindu temples and cremation grounds at Pashupatinath; and the medieval city of Bhaktapur.

The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery about 40 km (by road) southeast of Nepal's capital city Kathmandu and 2.3km from Manegaun, a Tamang/Dalit village. It lies at the top of the hill in shyampati vdc. It is one of the most beautiful and a center for tourism. The main festivals and mela celebrated here are kartik purnima and Buddha jayanti.
According to the old legend, 6000 years ago, prince (Mahasatwo/Ngingdui Tshenpo), at the top of the hill, looking the jungle, discovers a tigress lying near the rock. Very quickly, he realizes that the tigress was about to die due to hunger with her five little babies still sucking milk from her, survivals of the babies depend on their mother. Mahasatwo, decides to give his life to the tigress in a bust of love and compassion. So Prince Mahasatwo cuts his body to present his warm blood in the mouth of the mother tiger, and the taste of blood gives the appetite to the starving family. As the tigress accepts the sacrifice from prince she leaves only the bones. The bones of prince were brought back in the village and buried in the tomb which is actual stupa of Namo Buddha. Some about 3500 years later, the Gautam Buddha came in the village of Sange da Fyafulsa, He conducts 3 tour around the Stupa before he declared that he was the reincarnation of prince Mahasatwo. It was the moment that Gautam Buddha renamed this village which is henceforth the name of Namo Buddha which means Hommage to Buddha.
Since it was founded by V.V. Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche in 1978 the monastery has grown such that today it is home to more than 250 monks.
The Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Temple (photo at left) was officially opened on December 5, 2008. The Shree Mangal Dvip Branch School for young monks is also part of the monastery complex.

Kathmandu Nepal Boudhanath Stupa
Kathmandu Nepal Boudhanath Stupa
The 36m-high Boudhanath Stupa near Kathmandu is the largest stupa in Nepal, and one of the largest in the world. It is a religious centre for Nepal's considerable population of Tibetans. It supposedly dates from the fifth century. With three square tiers surrounding the central circle of the dome, Boudhanath is built in the form of a mandala, a symbol of the universe that is often used in Buddhist meditations.
A set of four Dhyani Buddhas carved in one piece of stone greets you just after entering the Boudhanath Stupa near Kathmandu. On the left is Amitabha, the Dhyani Buddha of the west, and on the right Ratnasambhava, the Dhyani Buddha of the south.
Jamchen Gompa (Sakya) is to the left (west) of the main entrance to Boudhanath. The entrance door has protruding sculptures of the Four Guardian Kings:
Blue Virudhaka holding a sword is the guardian king of the south
White Dhritarashtra playing a lute is the guardian king of the east
Red Virupaksa holding a stupa is the guardian king of the west
Orange-faced Vaishravana (also called Jambhala) holding a victory banner and a jewel-spitting mongoose is the guardian king of the north
Inside the Jamchen Gompa there is a large statue of future buddha Maitreya.
Tamang Gompa and Guru Lhakhang is the fairly new gompa to the north of the stupa
I walked around the square tier, starting with a pair of elephants and a kiln used to burn juniper.

TRIP TO NAMOBUDDHA . History of Namo Buddha Stupa
Understanding how special this sacred place is and disregarding all hardship, Khyabje Thrangu Rinpoche worked long and hard to establish the monastery. At first, the conditions were very basic as there were no roads or water. Not shying away from difficulties, Thrangu Rinpoche considered the teachings of the Buddha and in particular those of the Kagyu tradition. He set as a goal the establishment of three sections in the monastery: a monastic college focused on the study of Buddhist philosophy, a practice assembly focused on meditation, and an activity contingent focused on various aspects of work at the monastery. One purpose was to serve the entire world in pacifying all misfortune, such as sickness, famine, fighting, and quarrels. Another was to bring people onto the path of peace and nonviolence so that they might attain the temporary benefit of a rebirth in the higher realms and the ultimate benefit of definitive liberation. This quotation illustrates how such a deep aspiration to benefit others manifests:
Noble individuals do not announce what they plan to do.
Since they do not make a promise easily,
As if it were inscribed in stone,
Their promise will not change even if they pass away.
When Thrangu Rinpoche was starting these three sections of Dharma activity at the monastery, since there was no motorable road, he had to walk the twelve kilometers from Dhulikhel many times. Also in those days, he had no personal quarters and electricity had not yet arrived. From all points of view, the conditions were very simple, and he had to make tremendous efforts. Without a doubt, the saying is true:
“The Buddha does not tire of benefiting living beings.”
