Living in a Beautiful Shipping Container Home in the City
The Black Star is Toronto's first shipping container home, designed and built by Carl and Ana. It's a hybrid structure with three used shipping containers forming one half of the house, and the other half is a conventional build, but it's floating above the restaurant that the couple own, using pillars to support it.
Our video about building homes with shipping containers:
This build turned out beautifully and we loved checking out the interior and exterior design. We also chatted quite a bit with Carl and Ana about the process of building this home, and the advantages and challenges of building a house using containers.
They say the biggest challenges were insulating the containers, connecting them to another structure, and finding a way to drop them between two buildings and from a narrow alley way.

Dry River Bed Near Etobicoke Creek in Toronto
This may look like a man-made path on this low resolution video, but it is actually a dry creek bed near the Etobicoke Creek. You can't see it on the video, but the dried up riverbed is covered with the kind of smooth, flat stones that you usually find at the bottom of small rivers, creeks or streams.
It looks like the Etobicoke Creek changed course at some point, leaving this part of the waterway to dry up. I have no idea when this happened by I suspect that it happened fairly recently, because if it happened a long time ago it would presumably become overgrown with vegetation. I would guess that it may have changed course in 2013 as a result of the flooding that happened in the Greater Toronto Area and southern Ontario at the beginning of July in that year (you can look up videos on youtube to see how swollen the Etobicoke Creek was at that time).
In the middle course of rivers, creeks, streams, brooks, and other waterways, the waterway sometimes forms meanders. That means that instead of flowing in a straight direction, the waterway begins to curve and wind like an S shape or a horseshoe. But sometimes the river breaks through the banks of the meander and starts to flow in a more straight direction. The loop of the river gets cut off from the main channel of the river. The cut-off loop then becomes an oxbow lake. Over time the oxbow lake may dry up.
I suspect that this is what happened here. The dried up riverbed used to be part of a horseshoe or u-shaped curve in the river channel. But then, at some point in time (maybe during the 2013 flood) the Etobicoke Creek broke through the banks in a straight line, leaving the loop cut off from the main flow of the river, allowing it to dry out. That's my theory, anyway.

Bad Ideas 06: All Religions Lead To God
In the multicultural world in which we live, surrounded by a thousand different religions and belief systems, are Christians arrogant for saying Jesus is unique? The bad idea “all religions to God” easily takes hold in such a culture. But why is it a bad idea? And more importantly, what precisely is unique about Jesus?

Amusement park
An amusement park (sometimes referred to as a funfair) or theme park is a group of entertainment attractions, rides, and other events in a location for the enjoyment of large numbers of people. Amusement parks have a fixed location, as opposed to travelling funfairs and traveling carnivals, and are more elaborate than simple city parks or playgrounds, usually providing attractions meant to cater specifically to certain age groups, as well as some that are aimed towards all ages. Theme parks, a specific type of amusement park, are usually much more intricately themed to a certain subject or group of subjects than normal amusement parks.
Amusement parks evolved from European fairs and pleasure gardens, which were created for people's recreation. World's fairs and expositions were another influence on the development of the amusement park industry.

Waterfront home by Atelier Pierre Thibault overlooks Quebec's Lac Masson - Beauty Architecture
Atelier Pierre Thibault split this lakeside home in Canada into two volumes that face on to a small courtyard in between. The Lac Masson residence was named for the body of water it sits next to: a lake in Quebec's mountainous Laurentians region. The area is known for its many lakes that serve as an escape destination for city dwellers from Montreal. The home's simple wooden volume consists of a square plan, from which a central courtyard was carved out.The square is split in two halves to create an opening to access the residence, like an oyster's shell, said Atelier Pierre Thibault, based in Quebec City. The ground floor encompasses public areas as well as guest bedrooms, which feature bunk beds shaped like the hull of a ship.On this floor, glass walls illuminate the space and give residents access to the courtyard, which has a tree planted in its centre. An open-tread staircase leads to the main storey of the home, which contains a double-height living room that connects to the open-plan kitchen and dining room. This area opens out onto the rooftop of the secondary volume, offering the inhabitants a generous outdoor space to enjoy in the summer months. The terrace faces south, and receives plenty of natural light. The outdoor space is so close to the water, that visitors have the impression of being on a wharf, said the architects.Another flight of stairs leads up to the master suite, which occupies the top floor. The architects treated this space as an isolated refuge for the owners, who can peer into the double-height living room from above.White surfaces characterise the interior of the home. These contrast sleeping areas, which were finished in American walnut wood. The whitewashed exterior blends in to the area's snowy landscape during the winter.Other homes by Atelier Pierre Thibault include a long narrow home framed by two exterior rooms, and a cabin that stands on stilts within the forest. The studio is well-known for the minimalist aesthetic it brings to its residential projects in Quebec.Bridge connects two sides of lakeside home by Pierre Thibault.

►The Ford Edge was redesigned for the 2015 model year. Beginning with 2015 models built after May 2015, the door hinge pillar was reinforced to improve occupant protection in small overlap frontal crashes. (Information about when a specific vehicle was manufactured is on the certification label typically affixed to the car on the driver door or adjacent B-pillar.) The tested Edge was built after this change was made on the assembly line.
►Structure►The driver space was maintained reasonably well, with maximum intrusion of the upper interior of 12 cm at the upper hinge pillar. Lower interior intrusion measured 11 cm at the hinge pillar.
►Injury measures►Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Restraints and dummy kinematics
The dummy’s movement was reasonably well controlled. The dummy’s head remained largely in contact with the frontal airbag, but its head still moved toward the intruding A-pillar because the seat belt allowed excessive forward excursion of the dummy's head and torso. The side curtain airbag deployed and has sufficient forward coverage to protect the head from contact with side structure and outside objects. The side torso airbag also deployed

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
In biology, a hybrid is the result of combining the qualities of two organisms of different breeds, varieties, species or genera through sexual reproduction. Hybrids are not always intermediates between their parents (such as in blending inheritance), but can show hybrid vigour, often growing larger or taller than either parent. The concept of a hybrid is interpreted differently in animal and plant breeding, where there is interest in the individual parentage. In genetics, attention is focused on the numbers of chromosomes. In taxonomy, a key question is how closely related the parent species are.
Species are reproductively isolated by strong barriers to hybridisation, which include morphological differences, differing times of fertility, mating behaviors and cues, and physiological rejection of sperm cells or the developing embryo. Some act before fertilization and others after it. Similar barriers exist in plants, with differences in flowering times, pollen vectors, inhibition of pollen tube growth, somatoplastic sterility, cytoplasmic-genic male sterility and the structure of the chromosomes. A few animal species and many plant species, however, are the result of hybrid speciation, including important crop plants such as wheat, where the number of chromosomes has been doubled.
Human impact on the environment has resulted in an increase in the interbreeding between regional species, and with introduced species worldwide, which has resulted in an increase in hybridisation. The genetic mixing may threaten many species with extinction, while genetic erosion in crop plants may be damaging the gene pools of many species for future breeding. A form of often intentional human-mediated hybridisation is the crossing of wild and domesticated species. This is common in both traditional horticulture and modern agriculture; many commercially useful fruits, flowers, garden herbs, and trees have been produced by hybridisation. One such flower, Oenothera lamarckiana, was central to early genetics research into mutationism and polyploidy. It is also more occasionally done in the livestock and pet trades; some well-known wild × domestic hybrids are beefalo and wolfdogs. Human selective breeding of domesticated animals and plants has resulted is the development of distinct breeds (usually called cultivars in reference to plants); crossbreeds between them (without any wild stock) are sometimes also imprecisely referred to as hybrids.
Hybrid humans existed in prehistory. For example, Neanderthals and anatomically modern humans are thought to have interbred as recently as 40,000 years ago.
Mythological hybrids appear in human culture in forms as diverse as the Minotaur, blends of animals, humans and mythical beasts such as centaurs and sphinxes, and the Nephilim of the Biblical apocrypha described as the wicked sons of fallen angels and attractive women.
