Places to see in ( Madrid - Spain ) National Library of Spain
The Biblioteca Nacional de España is a major public library, the largest in Spain, and one of the largest in the world. It is located in Madrid, on the Paseo de Recoletos. The library was founded by King Philip V in 1712 as the Palace Public Library (Biblioteca Pública de Palacio). The Royal Letters Patent that he granted, the predecessor of the current legal deposit requirement, made it mandatory for printers to submit a copy of every book printed in Spain to the library. In 1836, the library's status as Crown property was revoked and ownership was transferred to the Ministry of Governance (Ministerio de la Gobernación). At the same time, it was renamed the Biblioteca Nacional.
During the 19th century, confiscations, purchases and donations enabled the Biblioteca Nacional to acquire the majority of the antique and valuable books that it currently holds. In 1892 the building was used to host the Historical American Exposition. On March 16, 1896, the Biblioteca Nacional opened to the public in the same building in which it is currently housed and included a vast Reading Room on the main floor designed to hold 320 readers. In 1931 the Reading Room was reorganised, providing it with a major collection of reference works, and the General Reading Room was created to cater for students, workers and general readers.
In 1986, when Spain's main bibliographic institutions - the National Newspaper Library (Hemeroteca Nacional), the Spanish Bibliographic Institute (Instituto Bibliográfico Hispánico) and the Centre for Documentary and Bibliographic Treasures (Centro del Tesoro Documental y Bibliográfico) - were incorporated into the Biblioteca Nacional, the library was established as the State Repository of Spain's Cultural Memory (Centro Estatal Depositario de la Memoria Cultural Española), making all of Spain's bibliographic output on any media available to the Spanish Library System and national and international researchers and cultural and educational institutions. In 1990 it was made an Autonomous Entity attached to the Ministry of Culture (Ministerio de Cultura).
The Madrid premises are shared with the National Archaeological Museum.
The Biblioteca Nacional is Spain's highest library institution and is head of the Spanish Library System. As the country's national library, it is the centre responsible for identifying, preserving, conserving, and disseminating information about Spain's documentary heritage, and it aspires to be an essential point of reference for research into Spanish culture.

Museum of the National Library of Spain | Day 2 (Part 1) | Madrid SPAIN || Tinny's ESCAPES Vlog
Date: 30th January 2018
(Day 2: Part 1)
- Video link for the Day 2 (Part 2): & (Part 3)
This is the second day of my Madrid solo trip. I woke up early in the morning to have a breakfast with my new friend, Olga, who is a lovely Portuguese girl that I met at the place I stayed and she suggested to walk me to the city centre when she was on her way to attend her art school. She is such a cool person and I like to chat with her, especially when she talked about her passion for her career as a special effect makeup artist. (Instagram: @olgafjose). We had our breakfasts at a cafe called Le Pain Quotidien and I ordered its homemade pancake & a cup of cappuccino. The cafe was quite cosy and the food is delicious. The place is decorated in rustic-chic style and the menu in the English language is provided. Besides, it sells a variety of fresh pastries and cakes with reasonable price.
After that, I walked on the street and I passed by the Museum of Romanticism (Museo Del Romanticismo) when I was on my way to the National Library of Spain. I love the buildings and architectures in the city and I couldn't move my eyes away from the sculptures of the entrance of the Museum of History of Madrid (Museo de Historia de Madrid).
Later, I entered the National Library Museum (also known as Book Museum) that is attached to the National Library of Spain The National Library of Spain (Biblioteca Nacional de España) is established by King Philip V in 1712 & located in a fascinating neoclassical building to one side of Plaza de Colón. It is the largest library in Spain, and one of the largest in the world. Other than that, it shares a roof with the National Archaeological Museum (which will be shown in the Part 2 vlog for Day 2 of the trip later). The admission is free and it is worth for a visit to learn about the library's history.

National Library – Historical Notes – Madrid – Audio Guide – MyWoWo Travel App
Hi, I'm Alyson, your personal guide. Together with MyWoWo, I'd like to welcome you to one of the wonders of the world.
Today I'll accompany you through the National Library of Spain, which is one of the most peaceful places in Madrid!
This venerable institution was founded in the early 1700s by Philip V as the Royal Library thanks to the fact that its first nucleus belonged to the royal collections. In its three centuries of existence it has changed several locations and names, until it finally settled permanently in the palace in front of you. In 1866 Queen Isabella laid the first stone of what became the Palacio de Biblioteca y Museos Nacionales, which was initially also home to the National Archaeological Museum.
Rising above the portico of this neo-classical two-story building are statues of famous writers who almost seem to welcome you to the temple of knowledge. In the foreground, seated and immersed in reading, we can see San Isidro (Madrid's patron saint) and to his right sits the most learned King in Spain's history, Alfonso X, who not surprisingly was nicknamed The Wise. In the background behind them we can see the Nebrija humanists and Luis Vives, the playwright Lope de Vega, and the legendary author of Don Quixote, Miguel de Cervantes…

- increases imagination and understanding

Madrid is a south-western European city, the capital of Spain, and the largest municipality of the Community of Madrid. The population of the city is 3.2 million with a metropolitan area population of around 6.5 million. It is the third-largest city in the European Union, after London and Berlin.
While Madrid possesses modern infrastructure, it has preserved the look and feel of many of its historic neighbourhoods and streets. Its landmarks include the Royal Palace of Madrid; the Royal Theatre with its restored 1850 Opera House; the Buen Retiro Park, founded in 1631; the 19th-century National Library building containing some of Spain's historical archives; a large number of national museums and the Golden Triangle of Art, located along the Paseo del Prado and comprising three art museums: Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Museum, a museum of modern art, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, which completes the shortcomings of the other two museums. Cibeles Palace and Fountain have become the monument symbol of the city.
Madrid is home to two world-famous football clubs, Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.

The National Archaeological Museum of Spain is a museum in Madrid, Spain. It is located on Serrano Street beside the Plaza de Colón, sharing its building with the National Library. The museum was founded in 1867 by a Royal Decree of Isabella II as a depository for numismatic, archaeological, ethnographical and decorative art collections of the Spanish monarchs.
The museum was originally located in the Embajadores district of Madrid. In 1895, it moved to a building designed specifically to house it, a neoclassical design by architect Francisco Jareño, built from 1866 to 1892. In 1968, renovation and extension works considerably increased its area. The museum closed for renovation in 2008 and reopened in April 2014.
The remodelled museum concentrates on its core archaeological role, rather than decorative arts. The collection includes, among others, Prehistoric, Egyptian, Celtic, Iberian, Greek and Roman antiquities and medieval (Visigothic, Islamic Spanish and Christian) objects.
