Migration Stories - From the Lions' Mouths
From the Lions' Mouths was recorded at the National Sikh Heritage Centre & Holocaust Museum, Derby, in 2012 as part of the Migration Stories project.
From 2010 to 2012 the Migration Stories project recorded stories of moving into the East Midlands from within the UK and further afield. Having received funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Renaissance East Midlands and Igniting Ambition, the project worked with people from a wide variety of groups and communities who have moved into the East Midlands since the end of the Second World War. These may be people who have moved to find jobs or education, or who are fleeing persecution or war, or who have decided to make the East Midlands a place for retirement.
The project provided recording equipment and training in how to use the equipment and carry out interviews. Volunteers also learnt how to edit the material into short videos about their communities.
The project was conceived as part of the Cultural Olympics and we hope to demonstrate that although people from all over the world are coming to the UK for the 2012 Olympics, there are people from all over the world, including the UK, in the East Midlands already.
In the longer term we intend the Migration Stories website - - to be a space where future projects covering any aspect of migration can post material.
The project is being managed by the East Midlands Oral History Archive at

Rabbit Ings Country Park | Wildlife fail!
Today we take a trip around Rabbit Ings Country Park in Royston. A fairly strange name, but a very nice place! It was nice and warm, the sun was out...but the wildlife wasn't. We also stumbled upon a mining monument on top of the hill - something that we never knew was there!
Hello and welcome to Josh and Lauren's WanderWorks! Sometimes we do stuff, sometimes we don't, whatever the case - the camera will almost always be coming too! There's Josh and Lauren (obviously) and our two cats; Buddy (the charming black one) and Dobby (the playful runt)! A little about us: We're from Barnsley in the UK, we love Disney (or more specifically trips to the most magical place on Earth in Florida), Lauren is a massive Harry Potter buff and Josh is a fully paid up Star Wars nerd. Lauren communes with beasts and plays Sims. Josh musics and moustaches. It works. Enjoy.

Sikh24 Headlines for the Week of November 24th, 2014
In Haryana, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa has continued the struggle to seek release of Sikh political prisoners who have already completed their jail terms. He continues to receive support from all, but the Akali Dal in Punjab. He was visited by the Aam Aadmi Party’s Punjab state convener who promised support. The Akal Takht Jathedar has stated that he too supports the campaign, however feels that hunger strike is not the right way to bring awareness to the cause.
Taking a u-turn, the current appointed Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib has now asked Sikhs living worldwide to celebrate the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji on Dec. 28. An edict issued earlier had asked Sikhs to celebrate the day in January instead. The change of direction has earned the Jathedar wide criticism.
In Punjab, 10 elderly Sikhs continue to remain imprisoned in a case of a bank robbery that took place in 1986. The team of Sikh relief released their names earlier this week, asking Sikh organizations to take their cases forward. A number of these inmates are now aged over 80, however they continue to receive stern punishment despite their ailing health.
A number of Sikh organizations have asked the Akal Takht Jathedar to summon former MP Navjot Sidhu for mis-using a quote from Gurbani. While these organizations have asked Sidhu to be given a strict punishment, prominent Sikh scholars have stated that being a patit Sikh, Sidhu could not be summoned to the Akal Takht Sahb.
In England, the Home Secretary Theresa May paid a Visit to the National Sikh Museum to Unveil WW1 Commemoration Exhibition. Theresa May was specially invited to the National Sikh Heritage Centre and Holocaust Museum in Princes Street, Derby to unveil two large statues of Sikh soldiers.
