National Taiwan Museum Tour (Taipei, Taiwan)
The National Taiwan Museum / 國立台灣博物館, established in 1908, is the oldest museum in Taiwan. It was founded by the colonial government during Taiwan's period of Japanese rule. The museum is located in Zhongzheng District, Taipei.
Established in 1908, the museum is the oldest in Taiwan. The colonial government of Japan set up the Taiwan Governor Museum (臺灣總督府民政部殖產局附屬博物館), which officially opened on October 24, 1908, to commemorate the inauguration of the North-South Railway. The museum had a collection of over 10,000 items in its initial stages. In 1915, the new building of the museum in Taihoku New Park was inaugurated and became one of the major public buildings during Japanese rule.
Under the Nationalist-rule, the Department of Education of the Taiwan Provincial Government took over the administration of the museum in 1949 and renamed it Taiwan Provincial Museum until 1999. The museum underwent two major renovations in 1961 and 1994 respectively. Since 1999, the museum has been administered by the Central Government and renamed National Taiwan Museum. Throughout the years of war and political transition and after twice being renamed, it stands as the only museum established during the colonial years, which is still in operation on its original site.
For more than a century, the museum has been standing in front of the Taipei Main Station, on the north-south and east-west pivotal crossroads of old Taipei. Its elegant architecture, abundant collections and unique geographical position have made the museum an important landmark. In 1998, the Ministry of the Interior declared the museum a National Heritage. The museum has witnessed Taiwan's history and recorded its natural and humanitarian developments. Through this window, one may catch a glimpse of Taiwan's evolution with regard to the fields of earth sciences, humanitarian developments, zoology, and botany.
The museum maintains its original scale, with five departments — anthropology, earth sciences, zoology, botany and education. The collection features specimens of Taiwan's indigenous animals and plants as well as cultural artifacts. Through its regular exhibitions and special exhibitions, publications and various educational programs, the museum is serving the public as an educational establishment.

The Chimei Museum (Chinese: 奇美博物館; pinyin: Qíměi Bówùguǎn) is a private museum established in 1992 by the Chi Mei Corporation in Rende District, Tainan, Taiwan. The museum's collection is divided into five categories: Western Art (including painting, sculpture, decorative arts and period furniture); Musical instruments; Natural history; Arms and armor; Antiquities and artifacts. The museum is known for having one of the largest collections of violins in the world, and also for its significant collections of ancient weapons and Western paintings and sculptures. Forbes magazine, in its February 1996 article on private collectors in Asia, called Chimei Museum one of the world's most surprising art collections. The museum moved to its current venue on Wenhua Road in 2014.

奇美博物館 (ChiMei Museum), Tainan, Taiwan, 7/23/2016
Chimei Museum, founded in 1992 by Mr. Wen-Long Shi, is a renowned private museum with the richest collection in Taiwan. The founder’s early childhood museum visits served as seeds that later blossomed into his profound appreciation for art and culture. He has a dream of building a museum that is for everyone to enjoy and appreciate, and a place for people to cultivate their minds and souls.
The works of art in Chimei Museum’s permanent exhibition are coming from both Chi Mei Culture Foundation and Mr. Shi’s family private collections; the entire collection totaled more than ten thousand items.
Chimei Museum’s distinctive Collections:
The largest violin collection in the world, including historical world famous luthier families and schools.
The most complete collection of Western Fine Arts and Sculptures in Asia, which serves as an Asian window to the Western world of art.
The largest animal taxidermy collection in Asia, and it displays natural history in life-like storytelling scenes.
The most complete collection of antique Arms and Armour in Asia that presents war and weaponry history as the history of humankind.
Chimei Museum is a museum that is easy for anyone from 3 year-old to 90 year-old to understand and appreciate the world of Art and Music, it is an aesthetic hall for anyone without boundary.
Chi Mei Culture Foundation is responsible for collecting, preserving, and educating through the museum exhibitions and events. Mr. Shi sets the goal for the museum, “These works of art are world culture heritage and treasures, as well as the assets of Taiwanese people; we are only the temporary safe-keepers, there are many more generations to pass them on.”
Chimei Museum is the platform for Chimei Museum Foundation to promote exhibition and educational activities. Mr. Shi sets the heart for the Chimei Museum Foundation, “Good works of art should be shared with the public, not for oneself; and works of art should be collected for everyone to appreciate, and not for personal enjoyment.”
In 2014, Chimei Museum Relocated to Tainan Metropolitan Park, and reopened to the public in January 2015. The Chimei Museum building was funded and constructed by the Chi Mei Corporation, and donated to the local Tainan City Government by the founder Mr. Wen-Long Shi. Chimei Museum foundation then contracted to operate the building as a museum on a 50-year ROT (Renovate-Operate-Transfer) government project, which enables the foundation to operate within the museum building with its collection for the coming 50 years. Chimei Museum will retain founder’s founding essence to operate the museum, renaissance the culture of art, and let the world see Taiwan.
Bayanihan: Hopping Spirit House
Ayala Museum, in collaboration with Museo Pambata and Barangay San Lorenzo, presents an art installation by Filipino contemporary artist Alwin Reamillo inspired by the traditional
Philippine concept of community. Originally commissioned by Urban Theatre Projects, an Australian theatre company, for Bankstown:LIVE—Sydney Festival 2015, Bayanihan Hopping
Spirit House has travelled around 4 sites around Sydney until 2017. The house was presented in the Philippines for the first time as part of Open City/ Manila Biennale 2018 in
Intramuros last February to March.
Bayanihan Hopping Spirit House is a collapsible bamboo-framed hut on stilts, made from a pine timber base, which supports a skeletal wall and roof structure. It is fashioned after the
bahay kubo, an indigenous quadrilateral hut made from bamboo and thatched nipa or anahaw, usually found in Philippine rural areas. This house, as the artist created it, is lined and
decorated with improvised wind chimes , object mobiles, buntings made from found and recycled materials giving it a sense of journey as it moved from site to site. The various hanging
onjects were added from previous community arts and craft workshops. As such, it is an evolving structure, suggestive not only of vulnerability to the forces of nature but also human capacity for resilience.
As part of its opening ceremonies, the house is carried by members of the host community to its various exhibition venues. This calls to mind the folk practice of townspeople helping to
carry a neighbor’s bahay kubo when moving home sites—an act which has become emblematic of bayanihan, a core Filipino value.
Alwin Reamillo (born 1964 in Manila) is an interdisciplinary artist living and working in Australia and the Philippines. An alumnus of the Philippine High School for the Arts, he pursued
studies at the College of Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines and at the Western Australia School of Visual Arts. His practice—from painting, photography, sculpture, to
performance—frequently uses mobile elements and crafts, reflecting his ideas on travel, migration and community via cross-cultural engagement. He has presented work both nationally
and overseas including Passion + Procession : Art from the Philippines, Art Gallery of New South Wales, 2017; Alegori: Contemporary Art Expressions from Malay Manuscripts, Galeri
Petronas, Kuala Lumpur, 2017 ; Encounter: Art from Different Land / SEA + Triennale 2016, National Gallery of Indonesia, Jakarta ; 2015 Asian Art Biennale: Artist Making Movement,
National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, Taichung; The Roving Eye: Contemporary Art from South East Asia, ARTER Space for Art, Istanbul, 2015. He is currently developing new work
for the final leg of the international touring exhibition Concept Context Contestation : Art and the Collective in South East Asia. He was conferred the Thirteen Artists Award by the
Cultural Center of the Philippines in 1994.
This exhibition is presented under the Ayala Museum OpenSpace program, featuring public installations by contemporary artists with the aim of engaging the museum’s
community through dialogue with art.

Taiwan - The Heart Of Asia Timelapse
Taiwan – The Heart Of Asia is my best work. After 5 timelapse from different cities around the world, I try to catch one country in a movie. I explore Taiwan over 3 weeks in November 2017 and stay in 4 big cities (Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung), switch 9 times my hotel, create 99 timelapse with over 21000 images, 137GB in around 24 hours recording time.
After several hours video editing I present my masterpiece.
Taiwan himself is a great place to travel. Not so common for western tourist, but well developed for individual tourist, pretty cheap, super save, clean and with fantastic food, landscapes and people.

Chinese art from Taiwan exhibit goes ahead after material changed to include National in National
An exhibition of Chinese art from Taiwan has opened as planned after the Tokyo National Museum revised promotional materials that had omitted the word National from references to Taipei's National Palace Museum.
The Taiwanese museum's director accepted an apology from the Tokyo museum's curator at an opening ceremony for the exhibition on Monday.
Taiwan had protested the incorrect references and Taiwan's first lady Christine Chou postponed plans to attend the opening ceremony.
The National Palace Museum houses many treasures that were taken to the island when Nationalists fled to Taiwan, splitting from mainland China in 1949.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is a lustrous white and green cabbage carved of jadeite.
Japan formally recognises mainland China but also has close ties with Taiwan, which has full diplomatic relations with only 23 countries, most of them in Latin America, Africa, and the south Pacific.

Taiwan ink artist Lee Chun-yi - Review of his solo exhibition in Hong Kong
Review of the first solo exhibition of Taiwan ink artist Lee Chun-yi in Hong Kong.
Alisan Fine Arts gallery will present a recent selection of his traditionally inspired landscapes and scholar rocks created by unique stamping and rubbing technique. This exhibition draws particular attention to the classical reference of Lee’s practice, including landscape, calligraphy, carving, and poetry, and the fusion of these timeless elements into a revolutionary style often interpreted as photorealist, and universally as contemporary.
Born in Kaohsiung, Taiwan in 1965, Lee Chun-yi moved to Hong Kong at the age of five. He studied painting under acclaimed ink master Liu Kuo-sung, a founder of the Fifth Moon Group and continuing leader in the Chinese contemporary ink movement, at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Lee later completed a master’s degree in art at Tunghai University, Taiwan in 1997, before pursuing doctoral studies in Chinese Art History at Arizona State University in the United States, and eventually returning to Taiwan to develop his artistic practice.
confucius temple and taiwan art museum in tainan city (TAIWAN) #taiwan #tainan #taiwanartmuseum
The Taiwan Confucius Temple, also called the Scholarly Temple, was built in 1665 during the Koxinga dynasty, when Zheng Jing (Koxinga's son) approved of the proposal by Chief of General Staff Chen Yonghua [zh] to construct the Temple on the right side and the National Academy (to be called Guo Xue hereafter) on the left side of a hill, with both facing the south. On the east (left) side stood Ming-Lun Hall (Hall of Ethics), built as a place for instructors to offer lectures and cultivate intellectuals. On the west(right) side was the sanctuary called Ta-Cheng Hall of Great Achievement), housing the mortuary tablet of Confucius, as well as those of his distinguished disciples. The Wen Miao and Guo Xue compound, the first of its kind in the history of Taiwan, was thus called the First Academy of Taiwan.
In 1685, soon after the island of Formosa was annexed by the Qing dynasty, the first Taiwan Regional Chief Administrator Chou Chang and Taiwan Prefecture Magistrate Chiang Yu-ying began their efforts to have the Wen Miao renovated and the Ta-Cheng Hall reconstructed into Taiwan Prefecture Academy. Since then, the compound has been renovated and expanded several times. In 1712, following a major renovation by Taiwan Chief Administrator Chen Ping , the compound retained its original layout of Wen Miao to the right and Guo Xue to the left. In the Wen Miao, in addition to its Ta-Cheng Hall, a gate named Ta-Cheng Gate (Gate of Great Achievement) was erected at its front yard and a shrine named Chung-Sheng Shrine (Shrine of Confucius' Ancestors) was built in its backyard. The Ta-Cheng Hall was flanked by East-Wu and West-Wu, two chambers in the worship of ancient scholars, while the Ta-Chen Gate stood between Wen-Chang Shrine (Shrine of Scholars) to the left and Tu-Di Shrine (Shrine of the Land) to the right. Also built on both sides of the yard of the Ta-Cheng gate were two walls with the addition of Li Gate (Gate of Rites) and Yi Road (Path of Righteousness). In the academy, a gate named Ju-Te-Chih-Men (Gate of Involving in Virtue) was erected as a main entrance to the Ming-Lun Hall, the main hall of Taiwan Prefecture Academy. Situated between the gate and the hall was a courtyard flanked by Chambers of the Six Arts, while seated behind the hall were residential chambers for faculty. To the east of the Ming-Lun Hall was the Chu Tzu Altar in worship of the scholar Chu Hsi. At this point, the construction of the Wen Miao had developed approximately into its current shape and scale.
The Wen Miao continued to undergo several renovations in the wake of major renovation by Chen Ping. In 1777, Taiwan Prefecture Magistrate Chiang Yuan-shu undertook a major renovation. When Taiwan was established as a province in 1887, Taiwan-fu (modern-day Tainan) became the seat of the newly created Tainan Prefecture, and was renamed Tainan-fu. Thus, the Wen Miao was renamed Tainan Prefecture Academy. After 1895, Taiwan was under Japanese rule, the Wen Miao was once again used as a public school and military barracks and was considerably damaged. A major renovation in 1917, under which some parts of the construction were torn down, resulted in the scale and structure of the Wen Miao as it is today. The temple has been renovated several times over the past 300 years, most recently between 1987 and 1989.
Taiwan art museum
The construction of the museum building 1 was completed in November 1931 and originally opened as Tainan Police Department. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, it was renamed to Tainan City Police Department. The police forces then moved out its operation from the building in 2011. The building is the earliest existing police station in Taiwan.
The museum will be opened to the public on 15 December 2018 with some soft opening of its exhibitions opened in October 2018.

Dutch practice Mecanoo is putting the finishing touches to an arts centre in the Taiwanese port city of Kaohsiung, which plays host to a selection of opera houses, concert halls and an open-air theatre set into its bulging roof.
Situated on a former military training base, The National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts will be the latest addition to the city's growing cultural scene when it opens in October this year.
Externally the building appears as a slim, rectilinear volume that has been sliced in half. It is anchored by five chunky columns, each containing a different performance space.
Among them is a 2,260-seat opera house, a flexible playhouse that can seat between 1,094 and 1,254 guests depending on the arrangement of the stage, and a 2,000-seat concert hall complete with what will be the largest organ pipe to be built in Asia.
There will also be a smaller, 470-seat recital room, better suited for chamber music and solo recitals.
