MY FIRST GUANGZHOU EXPERIENCE
In today’s VLOG, I met one of my old students of an English class I taught shortly many years ago. Lots of picture frame factories. Gigantic castings of Jesus Statues. Eva wown’t sleep long. Lots of fire engines under a skyscraper. The weather is not drone helpful. But I did try a little, but Anny was nervous and forced me to land. My old friend, dirty teeth Yupeng Chan “SHHHHUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAA”. Amazing, but too expensive, Guangzhou seafood. Stories about my first trip to and impressions of Guangzhou. Getting sick on dirty seafood. Giving up a chance to spend the all expenses paid day with three girls. A strange confrontation in a dirty chinese bathroom.
The JY_VLOG is a series of semi-daily videos about my life living abroad in China. Early videos follow my expedition up Everest, and future videos will follow me as I cycle around the world from Ningbo, China to Los Angeles, USA. But for now, the VLOGs follow my everyday life in China, and give you a glimpse thru my lens at what its like to live in Asia, and all the hilarity and drama that ensues. Ohh.. and I have a reef tank, fly drones and ride trikes… so if that wets your fancy, subscribe to see more every day.

Nigerian nationals, police in rare stand-off in China
The scenes you see here are unprecedented.
An estimated 200 Africans most of them Nigerian gathered in front of a Guangzhou police station on Wednesday.
They blocked traffic. They shouted in the streets. It is believed to be the first protest by foreign nationals in China, in a country where demonstrations are rare.
What triggered the protest is the bloody injuries two Nigerian men suffered while attempting to evade police visa checks.
The two men were at the Tangqi Foreign Trade Clothes Plaza when plain clothes officers showed up to check visas on Wednesday.
The men attempted to flee, and the man you see here was seriously injured attempting to jump from the second floor of this building.
As of last night, he remained hospitalized and his situation was serious.
Inexplicably, the protestors decided to take him to Guangquanjie police station instead of hospital. It was only later that an ambulance was called.
The man's brother told a South China Morning Post reporter on Thursday: I do believe he would have been better if he had been sent to the hospital earlier.
The issue of visas is source of frustration for Africans living in Guangzhou, many of whom are involved in the textile trade.
As the government prepares for the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, visa extensions have been difficult to come by.
An estimated 20,000 Africans are living in Guangzhou, and a lack of proper documentation means more confrontations with police could be in the offing.

Kunming, Yunnan, China - Part 3
Kunming
Source Wikipedia
Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan Province, Southwest China. Known as Yunnan-Fu until the 1920s, today it is a prefecture-level city and the political, economic, communications and cultural centre of the province as well as the seat of the provincial government. Kunming is also called the Spring city due to its weather. The city is home to several universities, museums, galleries and other important economic, cultural, and educational institutions. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's large businesses are in Kunming. It was important during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road. Located in the middle of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,900 metres (6,234 feet) above sea level and at a latitude just north of the Tropic of Cancer. It covers an area of 21,473 square kilometres (8,291 sq mi) and its urban area covers 2,622 square kilometres (1,012 sq mi). Kunming has as of 2014 a population of 6,626,000 with an urban population of 4,575,000 and is located at the northern edge of the large Lake Dian, surrounded by temples and lake-and-limestone hill landscapes.
Kunming consists of an old, previously walled city, a modern commercial district, residential and university areas. The city has an astronomical observatory, and its institutions of higher learning include Yunnan University, Yunnan Normal University and a medical college. On the outskirts is a famed bronze temple, dating from the Ming dynasty.
Its economic importance derives from its geographical position. Positioned near the border with Southeastern Asian countries, serving as a transportation hub in Southwest China, linking by rail to Vietnam and by road to Burma and Laos. This positioning also makes it an important trade center in this region of the nation. It also houses some manufacturing, chiefly copper, though some other chemicals, machinery, textiles, paper and cement take key. Though having a nearly 2,400 year history, its modern prosperity dates only from 1910, when the railway from Hanoi was built. The city has continued to develop rapidly under China's modernization efforts. Kunming's streets have widened while office buildings and housing projects develop at a fast pace. Kunming has been designated a special tourism center and as such sports a proliferation of high-rises and luxury hotels.
Kunming will be the hub for the Pan Asia High Speed Network using high speed trains to connect China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Singapore.
