Colorado Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Colorado.
Colorado is situated in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a land of remote valleys and high mountains.Denver is the state capital and is located on a sunny high plateau sixteen hundred metres above sea level where the local inhabitants enjoy more sunshine throughout the year than in California’s San Diego or even Honolulu. Skyscrapers between the prairie and the Rockies, a somewhat surreal city in which various power industry companies are to be found. The 16th Street Mall is the city’s pride and a splendid avenue that boasts the longest pedestrianised area in the USA plus a free bus service! It contains several shopping malls, restaurants and all kinds of shops with products from all over the world. The shining red rocks on the outskirts of Colorado Springs are a striking spectacle within the Garden Of The Gods. The huge red sandstone rock formations rise to a height of up to a hundred and fifty metres. The natural monuments are a reminder of the geological past of this extraordinary region situated at the foot of the Rocky Mountains Directly next to the caves at the foot of Pike’s Peak are the caves in which the Anasazi Indians once lived, the famous Cliff Dwellings where one can gain a fascinating insight into the culture of the native inhabitants of North America, how they lived, their culture and beliefs. The Indian Museum features Indian culture and work tools and is an impressive record of a long forgotten time and a people that almost became extinct. Sprague Lake is one of the region’s many glacial lakes and is ideal for walkers as well as anglers and boat enthusiasts, and several ranches offer accommodation. Ghost towns, gold mines, ancient cultures and mountain paradises, Native Indians, explorers, fur traders and gold prospectors, all the ingredients of the colourful history of America’s wild West. Colorado is indeed a place of spectacular nature and breathtaking adventure!

Visiting Mesa Verde HD
Share the adventure of visiting Mesa Verde National Park. Billy Berger takes you on a tour through the 800-year-old pueblo called Balcony House and then the artifacts on display at the Chapin Museum.
The Ancestral Puebloans were farmers and hunter/gatherers and they mastered living in the harsh and unforgiving desert environment of the Four Corners region. Exactly why these people abandoned their pueblos is uncertain, but it's believed a series of prolonged droughts around 1230-1250 A.D. caused successive crop failures that forced the Anasazi into other areas. This was a widespread occurrence in the Four Corners region with numerous cultures abandoning their traditional homelands. It's also likely that at least some conflict and war broke out due to the lack of food and resources. These people were once referred to as the Anasazi, but they're now known as Ancestral Puebloans. The Hopi and Zuni (among other modern Puebloan people) are direct descendants of the Ancestral Puebloans who once lived at Mesa Verde.
Domesticated wild turkeys were an important animal to the ancient people. They were like our modern , and DNA tests of the turkeys owned by modern Puebloans have been compared to the DNA of the ancient turkey bones that have been recovered and they match, showing that the turkeys they own are also direct descendants of the

Remapping A Place: How One Tribe's Art Reconnects Them To Their Land | Short Film Showcase
Jim Enote, a traditional Zuni farmer and director of the A:shiwi A:wan Museum and Heritage Center, is working with Zuni artists to create maps that bring an indigenous voice and perspective back to the land, countering Western notions of place and geography and challenging the arbitrary borders imposed on the Zuni world.

Archeology suggests that the A:shiwi (Zuni) have been farming in the Zuni River valley of western New Mexico since at least A.D. 700. After their lands were colonized by the Spanish in the sixteenth century and later claimed by the United States, indigenous peoples of the Colorado Plateau were left in a deeply familiar territory of unfamiliar names. Google Maps shows Jim’s farm bordering Indian Service Route 2, but that’s not how he sees his land. “To assume that people would look at the earth only from a vantage point that is above and looking straight down doesn’t consider the humanity of living on the landscape.” The Zuni maps, says Jim, contain something very important: a different way of looking and knowing.
Zuni maps draw deeply on shared experiences of place. They depict petroglyph carvings, images from prayers and songs, colorful stacks of pottery, arroyos and mesas. They are an opportunity for the Zuni to reclaim a deep understanding of a shared cultural tradition, rooted in ancestral lands, told again in a familiar language. These maps are critical to constructing a bridge between the traditional and modern worlds, connecting the old ways with the new.

Surviving Columbus (Parts 1 and 2)
Late one afternoon in May 1539, the world of the Pueblo Indians changed forever when Estebanico - a Black slave from Morocco - and his 300 retinue of Mexican Indians marched into the Zuni city of Hawikuh. Through wild tales and exaggerations, Hawikuh would be transformed into one of the fabled Seven Golden Cities of Cibola, and a year later, Coronado and his soldiers would wreak destruction and violence on this peaceful world in search of non existent gold. Surviving Columbus is a search for the Pueblo people's view of these first encounters with European civilization, told exclusively through the voices and visions of the Pueblo Indians.
