Nemours Mansion and Gardens - Home of Alfred I. duPont
This video tells the story of Alfred I. duPont and the beautiful home he built for his second wife Alicia on a 3,000-acre plot of land in Wilmington, Delaware.
He hired Carrere and Hastings, a prestigious New York architectural firm, to design the mansion in the late-18th-century French style that Alicia adored. Alfred named the estate Nemours, after the French town that his great-great-grandfather represented in the French Estates General.
Alfred also ensured that his new home was thoroughly modern by incorporating the latest technology and many of his own inventions. Visitors today can enjoy a glimpse of the past at the carefully preserved Nemours Mansion and Gardens.

USA Vlog 3- Lehigh Valley Grand Prix, Trail Rides, NYC, Baseball, & Nemours Mansion & Gardens
This one includes a lot of day-trips, covering the three states of PA, NY, and DE! First, we went go-carting with my father in Allentown, PA at the Lehigh Valley Grand Prix. It was only a short race, but the most exciting 8 minutes I've had in a long time! (Thanks Dad!) After a brief instructional video, we were racing in the indoor track and sliding around turns, having a blast!
At :24 on the video, you can see the horses we rode at Jacobsburg State Park. My mother joined us for the hour-long ride, which included a creek crossing. I was not allowed to take video for safety reasons, which was totally understandable.
0:49- We hit New York City's 5th Avenue, Times Square, and the Chelsea District. We got to the golf range on Pier 59 and hit 140 balls to get ready for a golf outing scheduled later in the vacation.
Not shown on this video, we attended Sleep No More. I suggest that you Google that because it was nothing I had ever experienced before. Basically, it was an interactive play where the audience follows actors around a multi-floor set, designed to look like a 1930s era hotel. Wow, that was freaky!
1:33 we caught an Iron Pigs baseball game. They are a minor league team associated with the Philadelphia Phillies. We enjoyed the mascots and all the action between the innings! The organizers really know how to keep baseball interesting. It was actually an exciting game too!
2:29- On a two-hour drive south to Wilmington DE, we stopped at Nemours, a 77-room Mansion and Gardens (Dupont Family), as well as Winterthur, a nearby estate, which is now a museum with extensive grounds to tour.
4:48- Allentown, PA as seen from the top of the former Hess's Department Store Parking Deck. We had lunch on that day at Sugar Hill, a new restaurant featuring jazz. (There is a nearby organic store too!) It is just a block from the newly revitalized Hamilton Street within walking distance of the PPL Center.
5:57 Lastly, we picked up my Lehigh Valley VIA Marathon bib number and swag bag at the Steel Stacks in Bethlehem. We walked part of the new Skywalk which showed the steel-making process of Bethlehem Steel's blast furnaces.
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for Vlog #4! Please like and subscribe for more videos about running and gardening, as well as my adventures in Asia and the USA!
Nemours Mansion & Gardens Alfred Dupont
Estate of the DuPont bad boy, Alfred. This one only had 77 rooms but they were grand. We highly recommend all of the tours. Our base camp was Kennett Square with great dining and nightlife.
Neymours Estate Delaware | American Versailles
A quick visit to a DuPont estate, Neymours in Wilmington, Delaware. Neymours was home to A. I. Dupont, a 47,000 square foot mansion with amazing fountains, gardens and gold statues. It felt like a mini Versailles. It is also incredible how few people go there. When I went there were only 115 visitors all day (on 300 acres!) I only saw maybe 15 people, it felt like my private grounds.
History of Nemours
Nemours President and CEO, Dr. David Bailey, talks about the history of Nemours beginning with a transformational gift from philanthropist, Alfred I. duPont.
Back in 1940, when the Alfred I. duPont Institute was an orthopedic hospital, children were patients in the hospital for days, weeks, or even months at a time. We had to attend not only to their medical needs, but to their educational needs and their needs to be children. We had to create an environment where children could be children.
That became woven into our DNA, that idea of getting it right for the family and creating an environment where family feels safe, secure and has peace of mind.
Today, Nemours supports a number of renowned children's health facilities, including the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware; Nemours Children's Clinic with specialty practice locations in the Delaware Valley and North and Central Florida; and primary care offices in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Nemours is currently developing a new children's health campus in Orlando, Florida, including the Nemours Children's Hospital.

Video Tour of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children
To create the expanded Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, we talked to parents and listened to children to find out what they would wish for most in a hospital. We asked our caregivers what would help them continue to deliver the very best care. These thoughts and ideas helped inspire the design of duPont Hospital for Children — an environment to promote physical, emotional and spiritual healing of children.
Ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, we were also awarded the elite distinction as a 2012 Leapfrog Group Top Children's Hospital, making us one of the safest children’s hospitals in the country. Throughout all of our specialty areas, we’ve assembled superior expertise among family-centered teams — to help tackle many of the toughest challenges kids can face.
We’ve earned the prestigious Magnet® Designation for nursing excellence. Plus, our board-certified physicians are named, year after year, as some of the Best Doctors in America®.
And because the last thing you need when your child’s sick is stress, our family-friendly hospital is set amid a beautiful park-like setting of oaks and green lawns. Our valet parking can help make the experience even more convenient for families. We want to ensure that every aspect of your time with us is as comfortable as possible.
