Herr's Mill Covered Bridge - The Kissing Bridge Pennsylvania Dutch Country
According to Wikipedia...
The Herr's Mill Covered Bridge is a covered bridge that spans Pequea Creek in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is also sometimes known as Soudersburg Bridge.
The bridge has a double span, wooden, double Burr arch trusses design. It is painted red on the outside, the traditional color of Lancaster County covered bridges. Both approaches to the bridge are painted in the traditional white color.
The bridge's WGCB Number is 38-36-21. In 1980 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places as structure number 80003537. It is located in Paradise Township on Ronks Road 0.4 km (0.25 mi) south of U.S. Route 30 to the east of Lancaster city.
Herr's Mill Covered Bridge was built in 1844 by Joseph Elliot and Robert Russell at a cost of $1,787. It has a double-span, double-arch Burr arch truss construction. In 1875 the bridge was rebuilt by James C. Carpenter at a cost of $1,860. The bridge was later bypassed by a new concrete bridge and is now on the private property of the Mill Bridge Village Camping Resort. Owner Brian Kopan was quoted as saying The bridge is in fine condition. We’re hoping to keep it as it is.

After Largest Dam Removal in U.S. History, This River Is Thriving | National Geographic
June 2, 2016 - Conservationists can now point to the largest dam removal project in the U.S. as a success story. The ecosystem of Washington's Elwha River has been thriving since the removal of its hydroelectric dam system. Recent surveys show dramatic recovery, especially in the near shore at the river's mouth, where the flow of sediment has created favorable habitat for the salmon population. A new generation of salmon species, some of which are endangered, are now present in the river. Some hope that the restoration of the Elwha River will become a shining example for the removal of dams across the U.S.

Franco-American Day at the State House, Hall of Fame Nominees Celebrated
(Via press release)
Franco-American Day at the State House
Franco-American culture celebrated at the State House today
AUGUSTA—Today, lawmakers are celebrating the 14th annual Franco-American Day at the State House.
“We take this day to recognize the contributions of Franco-Americans across Maine who have done outstanding work in preserving and promoting Franco culture and the French language, said Senator Libby of Lewiston, the Senate chair of the Franco-American Heritage Day.
Senator Libby served as Senate President Pro Tem to kick off Franco-American Heritage Day in the Maine Senate. At the start of session, singer Melanie Saucier of Fort Kent performed the national anthems of France, Canada, and the United States to start.
Throughout the day, a variety of musical groups from around Maine will be performing French Canadian and Franco-American music in the Hall of Flags.
“Franco-American Day is a wonderful tradition at the State House,” said Rep. John Martin, D-Eagle Lake, the House chair of the Franco-American Caucus. “We are very pleased that so many Mainers joined us in this joyful celebration. It gives us all – whether we’re of French descent or not – a chance to recognize the contributions of Franco-Americans to Maine’s rich cultural heritage.”
At a press conference in the Hall of Flags, the nominees to the Franco-American Hall of Fame were announced:
Don Cyr of Aroostook County
Doris Belisle-Bonneau of Androscoggin County
George Lamontagne of York County
Joseph Cyr of Penobscot County
Maurice Pelletier of Kennebec County
Roland Ouellete - posthumous
The Cross Cafeteria in the adjacent State Office Building is serving a Franco-American menu and there will be displays from Franco-American organizations throughout the state in the Hall of Flags.
“I’m humbled to serve as Speaker Pro Tem in honor of such an important day,” said State Representative Matt Pouliot of Augusta. “My hope is that people across Maine will take the time to learn more about our state’s rich Franco-American heritage and how it has helped to shape Maine.”

Coroner: One family lost 7 in Ala. Tornado
(5 Mar 2019) An Alabama coroner says all 23 people found dead after a tornado have been identified and their bodies have been released to funeral homes. He said their ages range from 6 to 93, and that one family alone lost seven people.
Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says other coroners and funeral homes from around the state are pitching in to help prepare the victims for funerals.
Sheriff Jay Jones says a lot of heavy equipment is coming in to pick up big portions of debris in specific pockets of Beauregard where the search for more victims is now focused.
He says those areas are narrowed down from a broad spectrum to certain areas where there may be people or animals, and that they hope to transition from search-and-rescue to recovery later Tuesday. He said the number of missing people has narrowed from dozens to just seven or eight.
Officials say law enforcement teams are working the area by foot with the help of cadaver-sniffing dogs and also searching by air. In one hard-hit area, a small excavator turned over pieces of splintered homes and trees, which firefighters then searched for signs of potential victims.
Jones says authorities are contacting family and friends of the missing to confirm their status, since some of those unaccounted-for may have checked in but not with authorities.
Forecasters have said the tornado was an EF-4 tornado with 170 mph (274 kph) winds.
