Places to see in ( Belford - UK )
Places to see in ( Belford - UK )
Belford is a village and civil parish in Northumberland, England, about halfway between Alnwick and Berwick-upon-Tweed, a few miles inland from the east coast and just off the Great North Road, the A1. Belford is surrounded by rich pastoral farmland, and to the west of the village is found one of the better rock climbing locations in the county, Bowden Doors.
Belford is in the parliamentary constituency of Berwick-upon-Tweed and is currently served by Anne-Marie Trevelyan (Conservative). Belford is served by Northumberland County Council. The area attracts tourists and there are also a number of businesses based in Belford.
Belford Hall is a Grade I listed building, an 18th-century mansion house. The Manor of Belford was acquired by the Dixon family in 1726 and in 1752 Abraham Dixon built a mansion house in a Palladian style to a design by architect James Paine. In 1770 heiress Margaret Dixon married William Brown. Their daughter later married Newcastle upon Tyne merchant, Lt. Col. William Clark, Deputy Lieutenant and High Sheriff of Northumberland who, in 1818, remodelled the house and added two new wings, with the assistance of architect John Dobson.
An extensive park, created in the mid 18th century, retains several original features and has been designated a conservation area. An 18th-century folly in the park is a Grade II listed building. During World War II the Hall was requisitioned by the Army and thereafter became neglected and dilapidated. In the 1980s it was acquired by the Northern Heritage Trust, renovated and restored and converted to residential flats. Spindlestone Ducket Mill is located about 3 km east of Belford, and is an 18th-century tapering cylindrical stone tower with a conical roof of Welsh slate.
Westhall is a privately owned Victorian house built in the style of the castellated fortified house that it replaced on the same site. The moat that surrounded the original building can still clearly be seen. It is now in use as a farmhouse. For much of the Middle Ages, Belford was at the forefront of the ongoing border conflict between the Scots and the English and it is believed that only Well House escaped damage or destruction at the hands of Scottish raiders.
Belford was for many years a coaching stop on the main A1 road from London to Edinburgh, which passed through the village. However, in 1983 a bypass was opened, and, freed from the constant traffic and pollution, the village could hold events on the High Street and in the Market Place once again. Belford railway station opened on 29 March 1847. Freight services ceased on 7 June 1965 and the station finally closed for passenger services on 20 January 1968. However, on 8 February 2010 Northumberland County Council agreed plans to resume passenger services by constructing a new platform, access and car parking.
( Belford - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Belford . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Belford - UK

2008-August Jesmond Dene Newcastle Upon Tyne England.wmv
Jesus Mound
A short video I shot to send to some friends to show them where I grew up.
Jesmond, or Jesus Mound, is a pretty special place but even more so is the compact, wooded Ouse valley tucked away within it: both mystical and enchanting during the day and unnervingly eerie at night.
It's the setting for the spooky illustrated children story I wrote called Cloudy Head (part of a collection of shorts) and several major scenes in the Sci-Fi Cyberpunk thriller, Iron Man Project.
In Cloudy Head, a young boy finds his reality begins to merge with dream-like apparitions that stalk out of the woods behind his parents house, after recently moving there.
In Iron Man Project, one character finds herself hiding out in a fictional renovated version of Lord Armstrong's banqueting hall whilst another character is sent there to kill her.
Up until the Norman Conquest of England in the late 11th Century, this area has been known as Gese Muth or the mouth of the Ouse (river). Apparently there was an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, holding the infant Christ, on St Mary's Rock -- which is a large table-like boulder that sits in the river right next to the ruins of Ridley Mill -- and is right next to where I'm standing when I start filming the video below.
About a mile away there are the ruins of a Chapel on the west side of the valley, and a little further beyond that is the site of a Spring, known as St Mary's Well with the word Gratia inscribed upon stone above it.

Newcastle abandoned lead works
The last look into the Lead works in Newcastle before demolition.
--------------------------------------------------------
How we got in and out.
At the time of recording the buildings were being knocked down. Because of this, there were two security guards on patrol around the area, to stop people from getting in, but that didn't stop us. We went late at night and hid in the shadows. It took us about half an hour to get in due to use trying not to get caught. We couldn't record how we got in as torches would attract security, so this video is just us in the basement, which is partially knocked down.
On our way out we were caught. He pointed his torches right
at us. But didn't see us. We then ran, as we were running one of us caught a brick and attracted their attention again. without looking back, we ran away from them and hid in some bushes and waited for them to go past. As soon as they did we ran towards the exit and didn't get seen after that. Again, we couldn't record this as we couldn't use a torch.
--------------------------------------------------------
Information on the lead works.
First made in 1778 and was a lead factory for most it's life. Finally closed in 2002 and has been ruined since. We've been here many times and is sad to see it knocked down. It would have been great to do a full video here, but were unable due to security and the demolition. The only place we could record was the basement so we could use a light.
---------------------------------------------------------
where is it?
It probably has no been all knocked down or is still guarded by security.
Right next to the metro radio arena just carry on the road and there's a clear gap in the fence climb up and walk up the stairs.
You'll see the buildings when you go up.
