The Newtown Theatre
The Newtown Theatre is the longest running theatre in the United States. The following video presents the harsh reality of a historic theatre, demonstrating the secondary effects of corporate America.
Special thanks to Noah Myers and Tucker Smith for making this possible!

Multimedia Profile Cover Letter:
My rhetorical audience is the residents of Newtown, Pennsylvania. The purpose of my multimedia profile directly ties into my audience. The Newtown Theatre is a struggling historic landmark that needs the residents of Newtown to go to the theatre more often, or it will not stay in business much longer. The theatre is over a hundred years old, and its end would be a cinematic tragedy, removing some of Newtown’s historic integrity. Nearly everyone in Newtown knows about the Newtown Theatre, but its customers are primarily the town’s elders who have grown up with the theatre. My specific rhetorical audience is the younger residents of Newtown who are unaware of its struggle because the fate of the theatre is ultimately in their hands.
I used a video as my medium because I will attempt to have my profile presented at the Newtown Theatre during previews for movies. A video was the best form of medium for my profile because my rhetorical audience is the youth of Newtown who are interested enough in film to watch movies in a theatre. I attempt to persuade my audience through the use of pathos and their connection to Newtown. I rely heavily on music to fill the audience with emotion and sympathy for the theatre. Lastly, I use images and footage to portray the power of big businesses, as well as portraying how old the theatre is and how so many people have a connection with it. The saddening music combined with the might of the big businesses portray the Newtown Theatre as the victim to a threat outside of its control, leaving the viewer to be its only hope.
The majority of my rhetorical decisions revolve around the input of the Newtown Theatre. I choose this route because a simple video on YouTube on the Newtown Theatre will most likely never be found, leaving my message never heard. To truly make a change, I need to have my profile marketed, advertised, or presented. Luckily, the Newtown Theatre said they would play my video if I followed a certain criteria. They said the shorter my video the better, as it would only be played as a preview before a movie. Specifically, they said the video should be between three to five minutes but cannot exceed five minutes. Moreover, the Newtown Theatre wanted to be represented in the least biased way, so they told me to minimize voice over, as they believed it is a more effective means of persuasion. The logic is that viewers can interpret even a voice as bias, but when they read the information for themselves, the viewers are more likely to be convinced since there is no bias. Thus, the length of my slides are timed for the average reader. A faster reader may go through the slides much faster, but it is important to note that they will be sitting in the theatre when they watch the video. As they look around with excess time they will be able to see the history of the theatre right before their eyes and hopefully be inspired to save the historic landmark.

Newtown Neurotics - No Wonder Records - 1979 - 1982
Newtown Neurotics were based around Harlow, home of Stortbeat Records (released the debut 7 single by Bishop Stortford band The Licks), Urban Decay, The Square, and The Playhouse and of course No Wonder Records.
I spent a fair bit of time in Harlow as a youth, a gritty concrete town made infamous as being the location for the 1968 kitchen sink drama 'Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush'.
Another silent newtown problem with no solution in sight the Neurotics passionately sung on 'Oh No' one of the songs uploaded onto this YouTube post.
Other notable towns that Harlow is near to were, Bishops Stortford, a quaint market town with the Triad as the main venue. Welwyn Garden City, with the Ludwick Hall venue, and yet another newtown, Stevenage which housed the wonders of the Bowes Lyon House, a venue on the 'professional' punk rock circuit.
Harlow was also home the Jean Harlow / Bennys pub / club, where the BBC cameras were poised at a Combat 84 performance just in time for a bit of the old ultra-violence, between, I assume, different divisions of boneheads. I guess a nice bit of footage if you like boneheads cracking other bonehead’s heads.
There were plenty of 7″singles by British Movement band Combat 84 in stock, displayed prominently in the window of Star Time Records, the punk record shop in Post Office Walk near to the grey concrete market area. There were certainly many National Front members based in Harlow. At the time it seemed that those politics were favoured, so placing Combat 84 7 singles in the window display guaranteed sales.
Countering bands like Combat 84 were The Newtown Neurotics, who’s members when the first two records were recorded and released on No Wonder Records, included Tig Barber, the drummer, Steve Drewitt (who had hair Joey Ramone style) and the lean punker Colin.
The debut 7 record on No Wonder Records, 'Hypocrite' was a decent offering. Hypocrite had nice harmonies, and a Rudi style intro and riff coming up now and again throughout the song. 'You Said No' is the weaker song, a newtown love song with a slightly awkward 'reggae' riff, a bit Stiff Little Fingersesq. It wasn't that this song was bad, but for me, it wasn't particularly great either.
The second 7 single (the third 7 single released on No Wonder) had the Newtown Neurotics punching above their weight. Two magnificent tracks, 'When The Oil Runs Out' and my favorite Newtown Neurotics song 'Oh No'. This 7 single adorned with a great image on the picture sleeve really stands out, and is perhaps my favourite record of the locality.
'Oh No' is just a stone wall classic. I hope you can keep the interest up long enough to hear this song, the fourth song on this YouTube post.
No Wonder Records released a cassette tape 'Pissed As Newts' (an awful choice of title for a band like Newtown Neurotics although 'Newts' is a clever twist but whatever) which was a full length album with a selection of songs recorded live at Dingwalls with Tig drumming around 1980. This cassette tape was released in 1982 after Tig had left the band.
Around the latter months of 1981, Tig who had left was replaced by Simon. Colin was still a lean punker and Steve had a cropped haircut, making the band look a little more clean cut and sharp!
By the third 7 single, 'Kick Out The Tories' No Wonder Records had got help from the Leeds based C.N.T record label. Effectively a joint label release.
'Kick Out The Tories' never dates as the lyrics seem to be valid whatever the decade, and no doubt will be well into the future. One of my abiding memories of Newtown Neurotics was at a gig at Harlow Square during the miners strike when the final chorus of 'Kick Out The Tories', was repeated as a mantra for what seemed like a whole two or three minutes. Everybody in the hall joining in on the rather extended chorus.
'Mindless Violence' although it was a great song, when wrestling against the glorious anthem of 'Kick Out The Tories', there was only going to be one winner.
The Newtown Neurotics went on to record some great political and personal material and the bands full length album ‘Beggars Can Be Choosers’ released on Razor Records, simply must be heard.
The Newtown Neurotics really were Harlow's Clash to the younger audience.

Places to see in ( Rhayader - UK )
Places to see in ( Rhayader - UK )
Rhayader is a market town and community in Powys, Wales. Rhayader is the first town on the banks of the River Wye, 20 miles from its source on the Plynlimon range of the Cambrian Mountains. The town is one of the principal centres of population in the historic county of Radnorshire.
Rhayader is situated roughly midway between North and south Wales on the A470, 13 miles north of Builth Wells and 30 miles east of Aberystwyth on the A44 - two of Wales' most important trunk roads. The B4574 mountain road to Aberystwyth is described by the AA as one of the ten most scenic drives in the world. The name Rhayader is a partly-Englished form of its Welsh name Y Rhaeadr (the waterfall), or more fully, Rhaeadr Gwy (waterfall [on the] Wye). Strictly speaking, according to place-name spelling conventions in Welsh, the name of the town would be 'Rhaeadr-gwy', and the waterfall itself 'Rhaeadr Gwy', but it seems that this distinction is usually ignored.
Rhayader has always been a natural stopping point for travellers - the Romans had a stop-over camp in the Elan Valley, Monks travelled between the Abbeys of Strata Florida and Abbeycwmhir and drovers headed to the lucrative markets with their livestock. it wasn't until the 12th Century that documented history of the town began with the building of a Castle in 1177. Little remains today, with the exception of a dry moat that can be seen from Wauncapel Park.
One of the oldest buildings in Rhayader is the Old Swan, which stands on the corner of West and South Streets Rhayader. The original building was mentioned in 1676 as being one of the two inns in Rhayader at that date. Some changes were made in 1683, including the rebuilding of the three chimney stacks, and this date is carved into the old timbers inside the building.
In the 19th Century, turnpike roads were only passable on payment of extortionate tolls, imposing additional burdens on already poor communities. This led to the Rebecca Riots across South and Mid Wales from 1839–1842, with no less than six of Rhayader's tollgates being demolished with impunity by local farmers dressed as women. The actions of these 'Rebeccaites' led to a Commission of Inquiry being set up, and most of Rebecca's grievances were righted two years later.
In the 1890s the rapidly expanding city of Birmingham, 70 miles east, viewed the nearby Elan Valley as the ideal source of clean, safe water. This was to change the face of Rhayader forever, bringing thousands of workers involved in building this massive complex of dams and reservoirs to the area. A new railway was built connecting this huge area with the main network in Rhayader, and the construction of a new village to house the workers was built on the banks of the River Elan. Work started in 1894 and the scheme was officially opened in 1904 by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra.
The station on the Mid Wales Railway line that served the town was closed on 31 December 1962. The nearest station is now at Crossgates on the Heart of Wales Line, though connections are usually made at the more accessible Llandrindod railway station a similar distance away. An extensive bus service connects with outlying villages and neighbouring towns, with two-hourly daytime departures to Builth Wells, Llandrindod Wells, Aberystwyth and Newtown, with connections to Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cardiff and further afield.
Tourism and agriculture are the most important industries locally. Walkers and cyclists are drawn to Rhayader for the abundance of trails and bridleways surrounding the town, which is the gateway to a massive complex of reservoirs and dams (The Elan Valley). This vast area is home to some of Britain's rarest wildlife and plants, including red kites, along with magnificent feats of engineering. There are a number of hotels, bed and breakfasts and campsites to accommodate the large amount of visitors that travel to the area all year round. Rhayader is also home to a community founded art and heritage complex which includes a museum and gallery.
( Rhayader - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Rhayader . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Rhayader - UK

NEW TOWN UTOPIA Official Trailer (2018) Basildon - Essex - Documentary
NEW TOWN UTOPIA features Oscar winning actor Jim Broadbent as the voice of Lewis Silkin MP. NEW TOWN UTOPIA is a feature documentary film about utopian dreams and concrete realities. The challenging, funny, and sometimes tragic story of the British new town of Basildon, Essex.
After WW2, New Towns were designed as social utopias to create (in the words of the post-war government) “a new type of citizen, a healthy, self-respecting, dignified person with a sense of beauty, culture and civic pride.” Basildon and its pioneer residents were invested with these post-war hopes and aspirations. Now, 60 years on, the town has deteriorated, degenerated and desaturated. Art and culture are almost a distant memory and Basildon is often referred to as one of the worst towns in Britain.
The story of Basildon is expressed through the memories of a group of charismatic but often self-destructive artists and musicians who keep ‘creating’ against the odds. Facing austerity, adversity and personal challenges these are individuals driven by their creative spirit to help their community through art, poetry, music… and some rather angry puppets. The film interweaves their music, poetry and art into a narrative that explores the roots of the housing crisis, the impact of demonising the working class and the sucker punch inflicted by globalisation on our towns and high streets.
