In March, we, the ASLTA Board, decided to hire a national-level, certified, professional parliamentarian to answer many of our inquiries regarding ASLTA's Bylaws. After we learned that we needed to follow the 2003 Bylaws, we immediately began with three urgent amendments to the 2003 Bylaws, in order to keep ASLTA functioning. I want to thank you all for casting your votes in favor of these three amendments to support our organization's operations.
In June, we had two new Board members join our team. James Wilson, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was appointed Vice President for a one-year term (2018 - 2019), remaining until the next scheduled election for that position in 2019. Lorraine Flores, from Fremont, California, was appointed as the Professional Development Chair until the end of the term in 2021. In late July, Lisa Godfrey stepped down as the ASLHS Coordinator due to personal reasons. She was replaced with Christine Sharkey from Newark, Delaware. It is wonderful having each of them serve on the Board!
The Board has worked very hard to transition from the former web development company to one that better meets ASLTA's needs. It has not been smooth sailing for all of us. We have faced many challenges which require a lot of time and energy, such as the troubleshooting of computer glitches. We had hoped to accomplish this task last Spring but it has taken longer than we anticipated. Please look at our Secretary/Acting Treasurer Zinza's vlog for further updates about ASLTA website. We truly appreciate your patience while our web developer is working feverishly on completing the ASLTA website.
The Board members gathered in San Diego during the week of July 31 - August 5, 2018. It gave us an opportunity to do a site visit at the Manchester Hyatt Hotel where the 2019 National Professional Development Conference will be located, along with plenty of much-needed work on ASLTA matters. We met with the Conference committee chair and committee members all day on Saturday, August 4. The committee presented their reports regarding conference planning. Their presentations were fabulous! We are very much looking forward to the unique ASLTA conference in San Diego next summer.
During our rough transition over the past year, the Board team contributed hundreds of hours helping ASLTA reach the Next Level and complete many unfinished tasks overlooked for years. Kudos to our Chapter Affiliation/Bylaws Chair Pfaff for coordinating with the four regional chapter representatives. See how professionally the representatives presented their regional news below. Additionally, note that Bylaws Chair Pfaff recruited three new members to serve on the Bylaws Committee. They had a Bylaws Committee meeting last Thursday (October 4). More information will be shared from this committee soon.
I want to applaud my Board team members for their commitment to serve on the ASLTA Board! Thank you to all members for maintaining your loyal support to ASLTA. We could not succeed without your continuous support!

US Navy’s USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) To Be Commissioned in San Diego
US Navy’s USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001) To Be Commissioned in San Diego - The U.S. Navy’s newest warship, USS Michael Monsoor, will be commissioned in San Diego this weekend, with the mother of its namesake officially bringing the vessel to life at a special ceremony.
The 610-foot, 16,000-ton Zumwalt-class destroyer is set to be commissioned Saturday at 10 a.m. at Naval Air Station North Island. It is named after fallen U.S. Navy Petty Officer Second Class SEAL Michael Monsoor, 25, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his courage in Iraq.
At Saturday’s commissioning ceremony, Monsoor’s mother, Sally Monsoor, will take part in the Navy’s time-honored tradition of giving the vessel’s crew those first orders to “man our ship and bring her to life!”
The Navy said California Congressman Scott Peters is set to deliver the key address at the ceremony.
USS Monsoor (DDG 1001) will eventually be homeported at Naval Base San Diego, and will be operated by a crew of 148 sailors under the direction of Commanding Officer Capt. Scott Smith.
The Navy gave media a first-hand look at the ship Thursday – and all of its bells and whistles, including its high-tech features that’ll make it more difficult for enemies to spot it out at sea.
“Our shape is pointy, and we have a tumblehome hull. It allows us to go through waves instead of going over them,” U.S. Navy Petty Officer Tarell Flowers explained.
Flowers likened the stealth ship’s capabilities to watching “a hot knife through butter.”
DDG 1001 was built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine, and is powered by two Rolls-Royce main turbine generators, two Rolls-Royce auxiliary turbine generators, two 34.6 MW advanced induction motors to speeds up to 30-plus knots.
According to the Navy, this is the second Zumwalt class destroyer to enter its fleet. These types of destroyers are “the most lethal and sophisticated destroyers ever built,” the Navy said.
USS Monsoor also features several displays that pay tribute to Monsoor.
Monsoor was a Southern California native who grew up in Garden Grove, California, alongside his parents and three siblings. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on March 21, 2001, and entered Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training in Coronado, graduating with Class 250 on Sept. 2, 2004.
Monsoor deployed in April 2006 to Ramadi, Iraq, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he served as a heavy weapons machine gunner, protecting his platoon from a frontal enemy attack, the Navy said. Monsoor earned a Bronze Star for his service during that time.
He was killed in Ramadi on Sept. 29, 2006, when he dropped onto a fragmentation grenade thrown by an insurgent in order to shield his fellow SEALS. He died from wounds suffered in the blast, the Navy said. Monsoor was posthumously awarded a Medal of Honor for his bravery and saving the lives of his fellow service members.

Hobie Lindholm Tandem Skydive at Skydive Elsinore
Tandem Skydiving at
Tandem Skydiving is the most exhilarating way to make your first skydive! Imagine the rush of exiting the skydiving aircraft and accelerate up to speeds of 120mph! With just about a minute of free fall, you will experience a rush of adrenaline which will take your breath away! You will also have the opportunity to pull the ripcord (Don't worry, your instructor will do it for you if you wish) as you decelerate to enjoy a 4 minute canopy ride while soaking in the breath taking views throughout Southern California, and truly understand why birds sing.
Tandem Skydiving is the quickest and safest way to enjoy your first skydiving experience, as you will be securely attached to a United States Parachute Association (USPA) licensed Tandem Master.
Skydive Elsinore adheres to and surpasses the highest levels of safety standards set for by the USPA. Additionally, we have an incredible safety record and have the longest running civilian Skydiving operation in North America which was established in 1959.
If you are looking for scenery, then look no further! Skydive Elsinore is by far the most scenic skydiving center throughout Southern California! With views of the Pacific Ocean, Catalina Island, Lake Elsinore, Mount Palomar, Big Bear, and Mt. San Jacinto, you will quickly realize why Skydive Elsinore is the most scenic, popular Skydiving Center throughout Southern California.
Being the closest Skydiving Center to Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange and Riverside Counties; Skydive Elsinore is a short drive from anywhere throughout Southern California!
Your instruction will include specific training on the equipment you will use with your Tandem Master, you will also learn about the aerodynamics of arching your body in free fall, along with how to assist flying the parachute with your instructor.
Video which will last a lifetime
You can never repeat your very first skydive - the excitement, the adrenalin, the pure freedom you feel that is utterly unlike anything else in the world. You can't repeat it but you can relive it!
We offer professional freefall photography services for your first jump and for training purposes. Your camera flyer will jump out of the plane with you, video and still cameras on his/her helmet, following you throughout freefall.
Your video and still pictures will include some pre-jump footage, up close freefall footage and the after jump excitement. Don't miss out on capturing forever this once in a lifetime experience!
What is the Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) Program?
The AFF course is the unsurpassed method of training if you are interested in jumping with your own equipment and ultimately becoming a licensed skydiver. The AFF course is the most advanced skydiving training course offered and is endorsed by the United States Parachute Association (USPA).
On your first AFF Level, you will receive 4-6 hours of ground training, followed by the jump utilizing your own equipment and jumping with two USPA certified instructors. Under normal conditions, you will jump the same day as you complete the ground training.
The AFF Course/Program is structured in a two-phase training progression program. Phase I consists of eight jumps, where you will be jumping with an instructor on each level. Each one of the eight jumps is regarded to as learning categories (modules). Each category features a performance objective that must be accomplished prior to advancing to the next level. Completing Phase I qualifies you to make solo skydives under the supervision of an AFF qualified Instructor. At this point, you will be allowed to skydive on your own as you will now be on Student Solo Status.
What you can expect on your first jump
After reaching the desired altitude (12,500'a.g.l.), it is time to free-fall with your two instructors who will grasp your harness on each side. Upon exiting the aircraft, you will quickly accelerate to over 120 miles per hour for up to 60 seconds in free fall! You will then pull the deployment handle (ripcord) and enjoy a breath taking five minute flight under your own parachute. Yes, these parachutes truly fly and you get to steer your parachute during your descent. We will help you guide your parachute via radio communication and control commands for a safe landing. After the skydive, you will be critiqued and given a First Jump Certificate and a skydiving logbook. As you pass to the next learning level, your instructor will outline the next lesson plan and explain the new objectives.

USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group enters 7th Fleet area of operations: U.S. Navy
美 항공모함 루스벨트호, 한반도 포함 7함대 작전구역 진입
The USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group has entered the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations,... which includes the Korean Peninsula,... as part of its regularly scheduled deployment. Its arrival means there are now three aircraft carriers in the 7th Fleet's area of operations.
Park Ji-won has more.
According to the official U.S. Navy website and the official website for the U.S. 7th Fleet,... the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt and its Carrier Strike Group has entered the 7th Fleet area of operation,... which encompasses the two Koreas, Japan, China and Russia.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt left its home port of San Diego, California last October,... and successfully completed about four months of operations in the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea.
The Carrier Strike Group will conduct a range of maritime operations with the navies of U.S. partners and allies in the region,... to enhance security cooperation and interoperability.
With the USS Theodore Roosevelt entering the 7th Fleet's area of responsibility,... a total of three nuclear-powered aircraft carriers,... the Roosevelt, the USS Ronald Reagan,... which is permanently forward-deployed to the area,... and the USS Carl Vinson,... are currently deployed in the area.
The U.S. has reportedly decided not to include drills involving aircraft carriers during this year's annual joint military exercises with Seoul,... starting next month,.. yet some watchers say deploying three aircraft carriers in the region could be seen as an attempt to put pressure on Pyongyang, ahead of possible talks between the U.S. and North Korea.
The U.S. 7th Fleet is the largest forward-deployed U.S. fleet,... made up of over sixty ships and submarines,... some 140 aircraft and some 20-thousand navy personnel,... covering more than 120 million square kilometers in the western Pacific and Indian oceans.

This is some footage I shot of the very weird town on the bank of the Salton Sea. NEW FOOTAGE USS ZUMWALT MOST ADVANCED WARSHIP
USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) is a guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy. She is the lead ship of the Zumwalt class and the first ship to be named for Admiral Elmo Zumwalt. Zumwalt has stealth capabilities, having a radar cross-section akin to a fishing boat despite her large size. On 7 December 2015, Zumwalt began her sea trial preparatory to joining the Pacific Fleet. The ship was commissioned in Baltimore on 15 October 2016. She is homeported in San Diego, California.
The Nimitz Encounters
Tic Tac UFO
(Note: Updated film with newest info here it's the same film with one section at 22:00 changed/revised)
November 2004, 90 miles off the coast of Mexico near San Diego, California, the Nimitz Carrier Strike Group was conducting routine training and aerial defense exercises when unexplained events occurred. No one could have predicted what would soon confront the world's most advanced naval war ships and fighter jets. Aerial craft would appear that forever changed all those that encountered them. The answers to the question of “what are they?” remains unanswered by the sailors and the US Gov. After years of cloaked secrecy the true story can finally be told. With multiple witnesses from the ships, their first hand testimony is impossible to deny.
Our film features CGI re-creations as told by the sailors and naval aviators that witnessed them. Aside from the historical fictionalized dialog (no one recorded the radio conversations), the story itself is based on the facts of the case, including official US government docs, witness statements, news reports and official timelines. See thenimitzencounters.com for links to the official documents.
Please contact us if you have witnessed these or other unknown encounters on military ships or planes. You can remain anonymous. anon@thenimitzencounters.com
Some military personnel have requested their names be removed or remain anonymous, out of respect for their privacy we have changed names and details to protect their identity. All similarities to persons living or dead is unintentional. The producers have made every attempt to verify details and deny any liability for errors or omissions.
US Navy commissioned second Zumwalt-Class 'Stealth' Destroyer USS Michael Monsoor
The U.S. Navy has announced that the newest Zumwalt-class destroyer, the future USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), will be commissioned at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Naval Air Station North Island.
Music:
California Congressman Scott Peters will deliver the commissioning ceremony’s principal address. Mrs. Sally Monsoor, Michael’s mother, will serve as the ship’s sponsor. The ceremony will be highlighted by a time-honored Navy tradition when Mrs. Monsoor will give the first order to “man our ship and bring her to life!” Capt. Scott Smith is the commanding officer of the ship and leads the core crew of 148 officers and enlisted personnel. The nearly 16,000-ton Michael Monsoor was built by General Dynamics Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine. The ship is 610 feet in length, has a beam of 87 feet, and a navigational draft of 27 feet. The ship is powered by two Rolls-Royce main turbine generators, two Rolls-Royce auxiliary turbine generators, two 34.6 MW advanced induction motors to speeds up to 30-plus knots.
DDG 1001 is the second Zumwalt class destroyer to enter the fleet. It honors Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Monsoor, a Navy SEAL who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions in Ramadi, Iraq, Sept. 29, 2006. At the ship’s 2008 naming ceremony, former Secretary of the Navy, Donald C. Winter recognized Monsoor as, “a consummate professional who faced terrorist enemies with aplomb and stoicism.”
Zumwalt-class destroyers are the most lethal and sophisticated destroyers ever built. They provide deterrence and forward presence by bridging today’s innovation with future technology.
Zumwalt-class destroyers maximize stealth, size, power and computing capacity –fielding an array of weapons systems and cutting-edge technologies to fight forces in the air, on and under the sea, and on land.
USS Michael Monsoor will be homeported at Naval Base San Diego, California.

Boise has a lot of things going for it: an urban/metropolitan economic and educational base, affordable cost-of-living, an extraordinary business-friendly environment, four mild and distinct seasons, and plenty of public wilderness that allows a lifetime of weekend adventures.
The 2019 Boise & Treasure Valley Relocation Magazine is available to you for free to help you discover a little bit more information about the valley. The magazine highlights the 9 primary communities that represent the Boise metro area.
