PUZZLING WORLD..
Where the worlds first two layer outdoor (all weather) MAZE was created
And it keeps getting re-created.. simply to confuse anyone whom tries to plot a course through there (from such as a satellitte view)
All they do -- is often - change a wall here or there .. totally re-arranging the maze with MANY of these alterations being underrtaken .. UNDERNEATH the very extensive overhead walkways of the upper levels
But inside the building is best.. as:
That's where water runs UPHILL . and where you can sit in a sliding chair and reach the ceiling.. where standing upright ..
IS NOT AN OPTION.
And where a room is not a room .. but an illusion too

Ka942 Dunedin Visit Labour Weekend 2012 Pt 1

17 Kyeburn to Palmerston via SH85 Pig Route on a Boom Mustang Trike
Connecting the two major settlements of Alexandra and Palmerston, State Highway 85 services the Maniototo Plains and the North to Central Otago region. Today’s video starts at Kyeburn where the road descends toward the coast, through the Kakanui Ranges, and on through Morrisons, Dunback and the Inch Valley to emerge at Palmerston.
Over the entire length of the highway, the road runs through the one of the harshest, most extreme climates in New Zealand. The Maniototo Plain (toward Alexandra) can go from a chilly extreme of well below zero (the country's lowest temperature was recorded there in 1903 at a distressing -25 degrees) in winter to over 30 degrees in the summer.
Legend has it that John Turnbull Thomson, the British civil engineer who surveyed the Maniototo, wanted to give Maori names to places surveyed in the area, but this was refused by the authorities. So, he gave them Northumbrian dialectic animal names instead - which explains why there are settlements with names such as Wedderburn (wether) and Kyeburn (cow).
Highway 85, between Kyeburn and Palmerston is colloquially known as “the Pig Root” although there is no definitive explanation for this name, which has many and varied origin stories to it. One such story says the name came from the fact that the local wild boar were so unafraid of humans that they would walk right up to explorer’s horses and rub their noses on them.
One other theory, was the area was so named for the district's fame as a rooting ground for some of Captain Cook's pigs. Coaches, including the famous Cobb & Co travelled the coast road from Dunedin to Palmerston and then followed the Pigroot, now State Highway 85, over the Maniototo Plains and onto the Dunstan.
Another popular theory is because years ago parts of the route were so slippery and muddy due to the consistency of the clad on the hills, that the damage caused by the bullock drawn supply wagons reminded the miners of the muck in a pig root, making it look like it had been rooted up by wild pigs.
And more recently a blogger used the comment “in icy or snowy conditions Highway 85 could still be a pig of a route to drive, but on a dry surface in good weather, a delightful and scenic road.” Adding another variation to the theme.
Whatever the reason, the Pigroot or Pig Route is worth the journey through to Central Otago. Enjoy!
