STORYLINE:
Pope Francis was in the conflict-wracked Central African Republic on Sunday and urged the country's Christian and Muslim factions to lay down their weapons and instead arm themselves with peace and forgiveness.
The pontiff issued the appeal from the altar of Bangui's Notre Dame Cathedral after arriving in the badly-divided capital on the final leg of his three-nation African tour.
Cheering crowds lined his motorcade route, about five kilometres (three miles) of which he took in his open-top popemobile.
Sunday's visit was a rare moment of jubilation for the people of the Central African Republic, where Muslim rebels overthrew the Christian president in early 2013, ushering in a brutal reign that led to a swift and horrific backlash against Muslim civilians when the rebel leader left power the following year.

Bangui is the largest capital city of the Central africa Republican
Africa, Central africa republican capital city bangui nice visiting area and nice top hill there, there are nice uncommon house.Imagine a stereotypical rural African village, like that portrayed by Joseph Conrad - little infrastructure, in the middle of nowhere, with an air of decay and listlessness. And then make that your capital city, pack it with 800,000 people, and add a few guns, militias and roaming packs of dogs. That's Bangui. The Central African Republic - a country the size of France, but with only four million people - has almost non-existent roads and infrastructure beyond its capital: just vast forests and cut-off communities. But for all Bangui's hub status, that doesn't mean it is an energetic, rambunctious place like neighbouring Kinshasa or Douala. It is wild, but not in a good way. Dusty, but far from romantic. Abandoned, but unhappily so. And a long history of coups and violence mean it is likely to stay that way. When I was there a businessman told me it was so corrupt and impossible for business that even the Chinese entrepreneurs were staying away. Its location on the Ubangi river provides cinematic images of fishermen and washerwomen - although you don't envy them. The Ledger Plaza Hotel, an opulent marble monstrosity built by Colonel Gaddafi, was previously the swanky hotel in town - but since last year that has been taken over by rebels, who loiter by the pool and gorge on the buffet.Bangui (French pronunciation: [bɑ̃ɡi]) (or Bangî in Sango, formerly written Bangi in English) is the capital and largest city of the Central African Republic.
