O'Hara Mill Homestead and Conservation Area
O'Hara Mill - December 2014 (Madoc, ON)
O'Hara Mill Homestead and Conservation Area, north of Madoc, Ontario, contains beautiful scenery and a look at what life was like in 19th century Ontario (or Upper Canada). As the name suggests, it is a conservation area owned by Quinte Conservation, preserving a piece of the natural environment within the Moira River watershed. The creek that you see in this video is Deer Creek, which runs south to Moira Lake. It also contains a pioneer village, which includes a log house and saw mill, among several sheds and shop buildings.
The most recent additions to the O'Hara Mill Homestead and Conservation Area are the covered bridge/dam and the Visitor Centre, both seen in this video. Both the dam reconstruction and building of the new covered bridge took place between 2010-2012. The covered bridge is an excellent spot to watch the rushing waters of Deer Creek flow over the rocky terrain, the landscape common to much of central Hastings County. There are several trails as well, if a quiet walk in the woods is preferred.
