hey you out there - odeon derby
i know very little of this, my dad gave it me years ago all i know is they played it during the film break..i do not know how many pressings there was, who did it and how many survived.
but it is a lovely reminder of the times gone.
derby 1960's
rare footage of derby in the area where westfield is now, i found among other 8mm tapes some of no interest. not the old pub being knocked down near the odeon cinema...view of eagle street from the spot and some old house round the back...the building you see being knocked down is where poundland is now. you see the old st alkmunds church...the old bus station and ice factory. i am the only one with this footage and will do another version of it at a later date to stop it going out of focus

THE ODEON PROJECT (Odeon Nottingham an exploration)
Directors cut of the Urban Exploration video posted two years ago of the now long gone Odeon Nottingham. This version has better sound & picture quality is more informative and boasts a far better and more professional opening and closing credits. I hope you enjoy viewing this.
Demolition of the Odeon Cinema in Nottingham
The Odeon, on Angel Row, became the UK's first twin-screen cinema in 1964 but has been derelict since 2001.
Before being split into two screens, the 1930s-built venue accommodated concerts by the Beatles, Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly.
Developers have been given planning permission to build student flats in its place.
Having first opened as The Ritz in 1933, its auditorium could accommodate 2,500 people before it was split into two screens in 1964.
The cinema has been derelict since closing in 2001
But television and the rise of out-of-town multiplexes over several decades hit trade and the venue closed in 2001.
The video was taken on Wednesday 7th of November 2012.

Places to see in ( West Bromwich - UK )
Places to see in ( West Bromwich - UK )
West Bromwich is a town in Sandwell, West Midlands, England. Historically part of Staffordshire, West Bromwich is located to the northwest of Birmingham. West Bromwich County Borough was expanded in 1966 to include the bulk of Tipton and Wednesbury, while a small part of the south-eastern section of the town was absorbed into the new Warley County Borough which was centered on neighbouring Oldbury, Smethwick and Rowley Regis. The actual town boundaries of West Bromwich were also altered at this time, placing the Friar Park estate in Wednesbury, while the Hateley Heath area of Wednesbury was now within the borders of West Bromwich township.
West Bromwich's road links were further enhanced in 1995 on the completion of the Black Country Spine Road which also by-passes Wednesbury and the east of Bilston. The completion of this new road opened up several square miles of previously inaccessible land, and has allowed several major businesses to set up along the route. This has helped relieve some of the unemployment problems in West Bromwich, although most parts of the town still have the highest unemployment rates in the West Midlands.
The town is famous for its football club, West Bromwich Albion. The club was founded in 1878 and in 1888 it became one of the twelve founder members of the Football League. It won the league championship in 1920 and has won the FA Cup five times, most recently in 1968. The club were Football League Champions in 2008, winning automatic promotion to the Premier League. Albion were based in and around the centre of West Bromwich during their formative years, but moved further out of the town in 1900 when they switched to their current ground, The Hawthorns. The Hawthorns is the highest football ground (above sea level) in the country.
West Bromwich Town Hall, situated in the centre of the High Street, is a Grade II listed building. It was built between 1874 and 1875 in brick and stone to an Italian Gothic design, and its interior reflects the Victorian interest in Gothic and Medieval architecture. West Bromwich Manor House, Hall Green Road B71 2EA. Built by the de Marnham family in the late 13th century as the centre of their agricultural estate in West Bromwich only the Great Hall survives of the original complex of living quarters, agricultural barns, sheds and ponds.
West Bromwich is a culturally diverse area with many places of worship for several different religions. The Church of England provides the most places of worship across the geographically wider West Bromwich Deanery (taking in West Bromwich, Hill Top, Stone Cross, Carter's Green, Holy Trinity, All Saint's, St Andrew's, St Francis, Friar Park and others) which contains nine Anglican churches. West Bromwich has three main mosques, two on Dartmouth Street. The Main mosque of West Bromwich is the Jami Masjid and Islamic Centre based at 67 Dartmouth Street which currently is being reconstructed to accommodate hundreds of people.
For roads, the M5 motorway between the West Midlands and the West Country and its junction with the M6 motorway passes through the town, making West Bromwich at the hub of Britain's motorway network. West Bromwich railway station was opened by the Great Western Railway on its route between Birmingham Snow Hill and Wolverhampton Low Level on 14 November 1854.

Ghosts of the Odeon
Chester's 1936 Art Deco Odeon cinema closed in 2007, and has stood empty ever since.
In the next few years it will be redeveloped as part of the RE:NEW project, transforming it into a new Cultural Centre in the heart of the city.
Chat Noir Productions, as members of the Chester Film Co-op were invited to make a short film inside the derelict building.
Ghosts of the Odeon follows a young boy around the site, as he meets the characters of the films he loves.

M/S of Lord Derby cutting a ribbon to open a new swimming pool at Southport; the Mayor stands beside him and a large crowd sit in the spectator stand at the open-air pool.
M/S of girls in bathing costumes and carrying parasols walking around the side of the pool; I'm not sure if it is a beauty contest - one of the girls takes off her cape and twirls about in front of Lord Derby and the Mayor as if they are judging a contest.

Derby Hippodrome
PLEASE SPEND A FEW MOMENTS TO READ THE DESCRIPTION BELOW. Thankyou!
*PLEASE NOTE: I DID NOT SHOOT THIS FOOTAGE.*
These are the FACTS. Up untill recently this Grade II listed,Marshall and Tweedy designed Derby Hippodrome was occupied by the 'Walkers' bingo chain. Walkers did little to alter the layout/style of the building except for removing the seats from the stalls. Apart from being slightly dusty up in the dress circle, upper circle and backstage everything was pretty much just like it was when it first opened its doors in 1914. Yes folks, this building was unmolested, original and waiting patiently to be used once more for theatre go'ers of the east midlands. Despite theatre groups being busy putting bids together it was sold to a property developer for £375,000.
On 8/3/08 a fire broke out in the orchestra pit.Derby police have since confirmed that it was arson. The fire was confined to the stage and decorative domed ceilng and part of the roof which was directly above. Major damage was averted by the 94 year old fire curtain. Even today it still hangs firmly in place trying to protect what's left of the theatre.
On 28/3/08 a demolition company was brought in to make the roof 'safe'. What you see in this video is the end result. All this destruction has happened in the space of a couple of months. YouTubers can draw their own conclusions. At first glance the damage looks serious, the building is built to last and is still structurally sound with the roof repairs/demolition making things look far worse than they really are.
On the 17/4/08 thru the High Court in London; English Heritage,Theatres Trust and Derby City Council will try to safeguard this theatre's existence for future generations to enjoy. These organisations actually welcome your comments and support. So,if like the people of Derbyshire YOU are also outraged by the demise of the Derby Hippodrome (or have a spare million or three to donate) then please e-mail them and express your concerns.
NEWS UPDATE: 25/4/08 Derby Council wins our legal battle for an injunction to stop the developer demolishing the Hippo.Developer must now pay the council 20k in legal fees. The fight still continues!
NEWS UPDATE: 12/5/08 Officials were called to the Hippodrome after trespassers fractured the water main (??) causing some flood damage. YouTubers can once again draw their own conclusions!!

As thought, the newly elected (minority administration) Liberal Democrats have turned their backs on the Hippodrome and the people of Derbyshire. In just a short time in office, Council Leader Hilary Jones and her half-wit cronies have done more damage to Derby people, it's infrastructure and heritage than Adolf Hitler and his Luftwaffe ever did. To see these idiots in action then please clink on the link below. Truly shocking!
NEWS UPATE: From the Derby Evening Telegrah 30/3/09
THE first court hearing of a case against two people accused of damaging the former Hippodrome theatre in Derby had to be adjourned because one of the defendants did not appear.
Derby City Council is taking legal action against Christopher Anthony, owner of the Grade II-listed building, and contractor Wayne Watson after parts of the 1914 landmark were demolished during repair work carried out in March last year. The council successfully sought an injunction to stop any more work.
Anthony's solicitors yesterday wrote to Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court to say he would not be attending because they had not had time to go through the papers.
However, Watson, 38, of College Street, Nottingham, was at court but did not enter a plea. The charge against both men is that on March 28, 2008, they did execute, or cause to be executed, without authorisation, works for the demolition or alteration of a listed building, namely the Hippodrome, in Green Lane, Derby, in a manner that affected its character as a building of special architectural or historical interest, namely by demolishing part of the roof of the building.''
Anthony has submitted plans to create a car park behind the building's Green Lane and Macklin Street facades

The ABCs of Death is perhaps the most ambitious anthology film ever conceived with productions spanning fifteen countries and featuring segments directed by over two dozen of the world's leading talents in contemporary genre film, including the directors of House of the Devil, Hobo with a Shotgun, A Serbian Film, Tokyo Gore Police, You're Next & four British Directors - Ben Wheatley (Sightseers), Simon Rumley (Red, White & Blue), Jake West (Doghouse) & Leeds based Lee Hardcastle, who with his claymation short, won a competition to be the final Director. The directors were then given free rein in choosing a word to create a story involving death.
