Hong Kong SAR Establishment Day 20th Anniversary Fireworks from Old Peak Road
Some highlights from the firework display over Victoria Harbour on Saturday 1st July 2017, the 20th anniversary of the Hong Kong handover to China. Chinese president Xi Jinping visited for this occasion. Quite heavy rain fell during the display, making for worse conditions than usual for Hong Kong firework displays. A slightly more subdued display than I was expecting, my favourite part being the shimmering white star blobs which were falling very gently down. They start exactly 1 minute into the video and last for about 20 seconds.
Hong Kong’s 130-year-old Peak Tram is on track for a major revamp

The world’s steepest funicular railway, Hong Kong’s Peak Tram sweeps passengers from the busy city streets in the Central district to the highest points on Victoria Peak in only six minutes.
In service for more than 130 years, the Peak Tram is about to get a multi-million dollar upgrade, including replacement of carriages. Current carriages can handle up to 120 passengers at a time, but new larger ones will have a capacity of 210. The change will require replacement of all haulage and control systems, installation of new rails, as well as reinforcement of track foundations and bridges along the tram route. The renovation will cost HK$684 million (US$87.1 million) and is expected to be completed in early 2021.
The work will force Peak Tram service to be suspended during two periods, with the first one starting on April 23, 2019, and lasting approximately two to three months.

10/31/17 - Hong Kong Old Peak Rd ascent!
A rare dry and cool day. Hard but easier than expected (actually didn't believe it was possible). Used compact crank (34) and a cassette with a 32.
A Walk Around Central Hong Kong, HSBC Building, Large Roads and Narrow Alleys
Highlights of Hong Kong
Hong Kong is a world within itself, from its ancient history to its British past and now modern business capital of an autonomous part of China.
This video is a quick tour of some of our highlights of the trip. Points of Interest: riding the over 200 year old double-decker tram down the city streets. Taking the Star Ferry over Victoria Harbour, riding the Ngong Ping 360 gondola lift, riding the Peak Tram up to the highest point of Hong Kong to watch the sunset. Hong Kong has so much to offer any visitor and we did not ever talk about the food (that could take the hours).
So join Darcy, myself and our two friends that call Hong Kong their home Fergus and Mandy for a trip not to be forgotten!

Tsim Sha Tsui Hong Kong Info:
Tsim Sha Tsui (Chinese: 尖沙咀), often abbreviated as TST, is an urban area in southern Kowloon, Hong Kong. The area is administratively part of the Yau Tsim Mong District. Tsim Sha Tsui East is a piece of land reclaimed from the Hung Hom Bay now east of Tsim Sha Tsui. The area is bounded north by Austin Road and in the east by Hong Chong Road and Cheong Wan Road.
Geographically, Tsim Sha Tsui is a cape on the tip of the Kowloon Peninsula pointing towards Victoria Harbour, opposite Central. Several villages had been established in this location before Kowloon was ceded to the British Empire in 1860. Tsim Sha Tsui in Chinese means sharp sandspit. It was also known as Heung Po Tau (香埗頭), i.e. a port for exporting incense tree.
Tsim Sha Tsui is a major tourist hub in Hong Kong, with many high-end shops and restaurants that cater to tourists. Many of Hong Kong's museums are located in the area.

THE PEAK HONG KONG WALKING TOUR | PEAK GALLERIA | PEAK TOWER
#thepeak #hongkong #thepeakhongkong
Welcome to The Peak Hong Kong walking tour, where you will see The Peak Galleria, The Peak Tower, The Peak Tram and the area surrounding the Peak. The Peak Tower has just recently been renovated so its literally brand new. There is a brand outdoor new playground inside which the kids will love. Our video is shot in Ultra HD 4K, crystal clear quality, as if you are actually here. This video of the Peak is by far the most comprehensive on YouTube today.
'Victoria Peak is a hill on the western half of Hong Kong Island. It is also known as Mount Austin, and locally as The Peak. With an elevation of 552 m (1,811 ft), it is the highest hill on Hong Kong island, ranked 31 in terms of elevation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Tai Mo Shan is the highest point in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with an elevation of 957 m (3,140 ft)).
The summit is occupied by a radio telecommunications facility and is closed to the public. However, the surrounding area of public parks and high-value residential land is the area that is normally meant by the name The Peak. It is a major tourist attraction that offers views of Central, Victoria Harbour, Lamma Island, and the surrounding islands.
With some seven million visitors every year, the Peak is a major tourist attraction of Hong Kong.[4] It has views of the city and its waterfront. The viewing deck also has coin-operated telescopes that the visitors can use to enjoy the cityscape. The number of visitors led to the construction of two major leisure and shopping centres, the Peak Tower and the Peak Galleria, situated adjacent to each other.
The Peak Tower incorporates the upper station of the Peak Tram, the funicular railway that brings passengers up from the St. John's Cathedral in Hong Kong's Central district, whilst the Peak Galleria incorporates the bus station used by the Hong Kong public buses and green minibuses on the Peak. The Peak is also accessible by taxi and private car via the circuitous Peak Road, or by walking up the steep Old Peak Road from near the Zoological Botanical Gardens or the Central Green Trail from Hong Kong Park. The nearest MTR station is Central.[5]
Victoria Peak Garden is located on the site of Mountain Lodge, the Governor's old summer residence, and is the closest publicly accessible point to the summit. It can be reached from Victoria Gap by walking up Mount Austin Road, a climb of about 150 metres (490 ft). Another popular walk is the level loop along Lugard and Harlech Roads, giving good views of the entire Hong Kong Harbour and Kowloon, as well as Lantau and Lamma Islands, encircling the summit at the level of the Peak Tower.[6]
There are several restaurants on Victoria Peak, most of which are located in the two shopping centres. However, the Peak Lookout Restaurant, is housed in an older and more traditional building which was originally a spacious house for engineers working on the Peak Tramway. It was rebuilt in 1901 as a stop area for sedan chairs, but was re-opened as a restaurant in 1947.
In addition to being a major tourist attraction for Hong Kong, The Peak is also the summit of Hong Kong's property market. At the peak of The Peak, properties are more expensive than anywhere else in the world. Most of the super-rich in Hong Kong – including Cheung Kong (Holdings) chairman Li Ka-shing and the Kwok brothers of Sun Hung Kai Properties (except, in the case of Thomas, while accommodated at Stanley Prison[7]) – live in detached houses in Island South or The Peak. On 12 January 2014, a Barker Road property sold at over HK$100,000 (US$13,000) per square foot for HK$690 million.[8]
The Peak Tower (Chinese: 凌霄閣; Jyutping: ling4 siu1 gok3) is a leisure and shopping complex located at Victoria Gap, near the summit of Victoria Peak on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It also houses the upper terminal of the Peak Tram. Both the Peak Tower and the Peak Tram are owned by the Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels group, the owner of Hong Kong's Peninsula Hotel and other properties. The tower and tram are jointly promoted by the collective branding known as The Peak.[5][6]
The Peak Tower is located at an elevation of 396 m, 156 m below the summit of Victoria Peak. Because the architects sought a design which would be prominent on the skyline but would not interrupt the natural line of the hills, they chose a site in a dip along the line of the hills, and restricted the tower's height to 428 m above sea level.[7]'
