Walking Tour in Ketchikan Alaska Alaska (Episode 5) NCL Alaska Cruise
#Ketchikanport #Ketchikanalaska #Alaska #Norwegianjewel #Alaskacruise #Alaskancruise #NCL #Diamondstories #Outdoorlover #Naturelover
Exploring Ketchikan, Alaska by walking around from the port to the famous Creek Street, to the park, Salmon Hatchery, We visited some shops, etc. Ketchikan is the Salmon Capital of the world and also the rainiest City. Obviously it was raining when we were there. But nothing can stop us from exploring the place.
MY KETCHIKAN ALASKA FRIENDS....SEE IF U KNOW THEM
THESE ARE SOME OF THE FRIENDS I MADE IN KETCHIKAN ALASKA. I HAD A LOT MORE PICTURES OF SOME OF MY REALLY GOOD FRIENDS THAT I LOST IN THE MAIL AND I DONT HAVE ANY PICS OF THEM. IF YOU DONT SEE YOURSELF...I AM SORRY...I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO HAVE THEM BACK.
My best glacier and whale shots from Alaska
I shot a lot of video during an Alaska cruise on the Coral Princess in June, 2014. Here are the best shots I got of whales and glaciers.
The shots of the glacier calving were in Glacier Bay, although I can't recall exactly which glacier it was because we saw so many!
The whale shots were taken during a whale watching excursion in Juneau. With a big 100-400mm zoom lens I was able to get some good shots of spouting and breaching whales. When you see the tails go up in the air, that means they are about to go for a deep dive and you won't see them again for a while!
The final shot is of the Norwegian Pearl cruise ship in Glacier Bay.
All of these videos were shot with a Canon EOS 70D.
Hometown Heroes: Homeless in Ketchikan
This highlights the plight of the underserved in Ketchikan, their struggles, and how Ketchikan is working to solve this issue.
RV'ing Alaska's Inside Passage
The adventure begins on beautiful Vancouver Island in British Columbia with a visit to Telegraph Cove, possibly the best place on Earth to view Orca (killer whales). We continue north to Ketchikan, Alaska's first city on the Inside Passage. Here we explore the spectacular Misty Fjords National Monument by kayak and float plane. We also learn about the art of totem pole carving and watch as they are created. A short side trip by ferry takes us to Prince Of Wales Island, which has more than 2,000 miles of logging roads for exploration. The island is also known for its luxury fishing lodges.
Wrangell calls itself Alaska's Hidden Jewel and is paradise for those seeking outdoor adventure! Many say that if you're looking for the real Alaska, you'll find it here. The Anan Bear Observatory is considered to be one of the best in the state and the only place where black and brown bears feed together. We take an exciting jet boat tour up the Stikine River - the last great un-dammed river on the continent - and visit Telegraph Creek as well as the Grand Canyon of the Stikine.
The ferry becomes part of the adventure as we head north through the Wrangell Narrows - the single most difficult navigational stretch on the Passage. Petersburg is Alaska's Little Norway and Southeast's busiest processing port, home to the area's largest fishing fleet. Sitka was once the Russian capital of Alaska and is one of the most beautiful spots on our route. We explore the town's history and native culture. The Alaska Raptor Center offers a close-up at eagles. A wildlife cruise to St. Lazaria Island lets us observe whales, puffins, sea lions and otters. A snorkeling tour reveals Alaska's underwater world.
Juneau is the state capital. The biggest attraction is Mendenhall Glacier, which we explore with an exciting helicopter tour and glacier trek. Some of the best humpback whale watching is within a short boat ride of town. Incredible glacier calving and towering cliffs can be seen at nearby Tracy Arm. Side trips take us to beautiful Glacier Bay and the quirky little town of Pelican.
Our adventure ends with a tour of historic Skagway and more wilderness adventures in Haines, including a river tour, an air boat ride and panning for gold.
Imagine taking a tour of Alaska and bringing your home along for the ride! Join us on our RV adventure and get helpful tips to plan your own. - views before 6/12 - 4,190 - uploaded 9/7/09

I decided to add some information on Alaska and where to go in Alaska for anyone who's considering of going there in the future ! We went on the Ruby Princess cruise btw (no i'm not sponsored though, i wish *ugly sobbing LOL)
Since this was also my first time experiencing a cruise, travelling to Alaska was a very different experience . But Alaska in itself was absolutely fascinating for the absolute abundance in nature that it had to offer . I never saw a waterfall prior to going to Alaska but I saw countless amounts of them (and it awed me every time) . Also just the fact that there were so little people in the cities and towns that we visited really fascinated me . In some ways, Alaska felt like another world . Another beautiful, distant other world .

♦ PLACES IN ALASKA
► Ketchikan
A town that is abundant in rainforests and brown bears ! It's also an observing site for Killer Whales during July and Humpback whales . There are also many salmon's and bald eagles in the wild here as you walk around . This place seems pretty abundant in seafood since there was so much salmon's and there was an all-you-can-eat crab restaurant there LOL .
► Tracy's Arm
This isn't a place that you can actually stop off at, but this was a place we sailed through that let us first witness the glaciers and icebergs .
► Juneau
An interesting little town that is also the observing site of the Mendenhall Glacier . This place is also very abundant in salmon and jewellery .
► Skagway
For some reason I was most impressed with the nature in the town of Skagway . The scenery to Skagway was choc-full of low hanging clouds, icebergs, snow tops and tree-filled mountains; with a stunning amount of waterfalls . It's a little gold rush town that is also very well known for its jewellery . We also did our zip-lining here . :D This place is close to Victoria, Canada as well so people also enjoyed two country tours at this place too .
♠ NOTES ON THIS TRIP
► ALASKA
In general Alaska is super rainy so it's important that you bring a raincoat or umbrella . Seriously . SERIOUSLY . It's fairly cold even in the Summer but also pretty humid and rains a lot so if you're planning to take pictures of anywhere near a body of water or outside, you're going to want to look at equipment for you camera gear that will waterproof it or help protect it in watery conditions . You might have better luck with the water during September to April; however the nights are far more longer than the day during these months-especially in Winter .
If you want to see the Aurora you'd want to go from September-April instead since Winter season has longer nights (and the Aurora is only viewable at night), and there would be more clearer skies . We saw a fair few amounts of wild bald eagles, seals and whales as well . But we only really saw like the tail or the blow hole of the whale haha . If you want to go Killer Whale watching you'd want to go to Alaska in July instead .
► GOING ON A CRUISE
If you'll enjoy eating 24/7 for free, and in general spending a lot of idle time on your holidays; then you'd enjoy this sort of holiday . If you're not planning on watching shows or enjoying the ships facilities though I really recommend you bring a book or something for the spare time because you'll spend a LOT of time on that ship lol . An extra note to be added though, the tours at Alaska are a separate price from the cruise as well . So for example you pay for the cruise, and then you pay an extra addition for the excursions they offer (like hiking and all you can eat crab).
For the first couple of days you might get sea-sick but its sickness is not as bad being on smaller boats . Also when you're on the ship for quite a bit, when you go on land you'll still feel the rocking of the boat- yes, don't worry . A little disorientating, but completely normal . xD

David Travels Series - Episode 10 - Alaska - HD
In this episode, we travel the famous Alaska coastline via the Norwegian Jewel cruise ship. Traveling by cruise provides the greatest opportunity to cover the most ground in a week’s timeframe. Our cruise departs from Seattle and stops in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, BC, Canada then back to Seattle.
Alaska offers so many amazing sights, it was hard to squeeze it all into one episode. So I only picked the top 3 destination ports for this episode. Sit back, relax and I hope you enjoy this extended episode of David Travels.
Ketchikan, is a city in Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Alaska, United States.
Ketchikan’s economy is based upon tourism and fishing. The City is known as the Salmon capital of the world!
Ketchikan serves as both an air and marine transportation hub for southern Southeast Alaska.
The Ketchikan International Airport serves as both a gateway for Alaska Airlines jet service to and from Seattle, Juneau and Anchorage
A little thoughtful planning had me booked on an Indiana Jones style air/land adventure over Misty Fjords wilderness area with SeaWind Aviation.
They fired up the de Haviland Beaver Seaplane. Originally introduced in 1947, this plane is still the workhorse of many as the gold standard of seaplanes.
A seaplane is has floats for wheels to use for take off and landing and only one engine, propeller and pilot.
Some of nature’s most majestic work in Alaska is a short flight from Ketchikan. This unique landscape is over 2 million acres of protected land filled with brown and black bears, mountain goats, humpback whales and bald eagles..
We touched down on a high, remote mountain lake and my companions and I actually got out to take photos by standing on the floats. The peace and quiet of this moment was unparalleled.
Next Stop, Juneau AK
Juneau is named after gold prospector Joe Juneau. It’s situated close to the Mendenhall and Lemon Creek Glaciers.
Orca Whales were playing off the bow. Orca whales or Killer whales are a toothed whale belonging to the oceanic dolphin family.
On the way back to town, we stopped at the famous Mendenhall Glacier. This glacier is 12 miles long. The lake infront was formed by melting ice. The glacier has also receded 1.75 miles since 1958 and will continue to retreat in the foreseeable future.
Back at the city, we stopped in the Red Dog Saloon for lunch.
This world famous saloon has provided hospitality and fellowship to weary travelers and local patrons alike since 1940.
Some old timers tell locals the Red Dog Saloon used to be just a tent on the beach during the mining heydays.
Back on the ship this time the inside passage treated us to mile high walls of granite rock and an up close view of some more huge glaciers.
Skagway, AK
In a single year from 1896 to 1897, this remote town along the inside passage grew from a few tents to a city of 20,000 gold seekers.
The area around present day Skagway was inhabited by the Tingit people from prehistoric times. They fished and hunted in the waters and forests and traded with other groups for supplies they needed.
The White Pass Trail, was one of the two main passes used by prospectors during the Yukon Gold Rush. The Yukon gold rush was an attempt by 100,000 people to travel to this area in search of their gold fortunes. Most failed and many never made it back home from these extremely harsh conditions.
This area is packed with wildlife. Brown and black bears actually use the road for easy travel. So you don’t even have to get out of your car to see them. Just keep your eyes open on the drive.
We have reached our destination. Emerald Lake, It is the largest of Yoho's 61 lakes and ponds, as well as one of the park's premier tourist attractions.
Due to its high altitude, the lake is frozen from November until June. The vivid turquoise color of the water, caused by powdered limestone, is most spectacular in July as the snow melts from the surrounding mountains.
During the summer months, canoe rentals are available; in the winter, the lake is a popular cross-country skiing destination.
The lake is enclosed by mountains of the President Range, as well as Mount Burgess and Wapta Mountain. This basin traps storms, causing frequent rain in summer and heavy snowfalls in winter.
Emerald Lake Lodge, a high-end lodge perched on the edge of the lake, is available for local accommodation.
Our final journey during the voyage home treated us to spectacular snow-capped mountain ranges set against lush green landscapes.

Join an experienced Alaskan trail guide for a walk through natural, unspoiled beauty in the coastal rain forest on a remote island in the Tongass National Forest. The trail takes you through a beautiful old growth forest, by way of a secluded beach, and is mostly boardwalk, about one mile in length and well maintained. Follow your knowledgeable guide through this ancient forest and learn about botanic species native to this region, like Western red cedar and yellow cedar that early Natives were so dependent upon for spiritual enrichment, shelter and transportation and how Sitka spruce was instrumental in the construction of Howard Hughes’ famous “Spruce Goose” and other early vintage fighter planes.
After hiking this gently sloped historic trail, enjoy an Alaskan snack of smoked salmon, cheese and crackers, hot chocolate, coffee, juice and water. Then take some time to explore the natural beauty around you. A motorized rigid inflatable Seahawk provides a short, but exciting cruise along the coast of Clover Passage. Whales, Stellar sea lions, harbor seals, porpoise, bald eagles and migrating seabirds may be spotted on this route. Bring your camera and binoculars!
Alaska Tour - Skagway, AK - Stop #6
Today we made it thru Carcross all the way to Skagway, Alaska!
The drive had spectacular scenery with lakes like mirrors with mountains in the distance! Jeannie took several pictures thru the windows of the scenery and our caravan of 25 RV's. To get into Skagway, you need to descend from over 3000 feet elevation to sea level over a 7 mile decline which was quite long and steep, but we all made it fine!
In Skagway, we were there for the 4th of July Celebrations including a parade down Main Street and Fireworks! We also went out to dinner numerous time at different old time bars, and then to the 'Days of '98' Show' featuring a play about 'Soapy Smith' and Can Can Dancers!
We also took some time to go see and climb the Chilkoot Trail. This was the famous trail many hearty souls climbed, in the winter, up a steep mountain during the Klondike Gold Rush! Because so many were dying, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police starting requiring them to carry a year's worth of food, or 2000 pounds up the mountain. This required even the strongest hikers to take over 30-40 trips up and back to get all the stuff hand carried over the mountain!

Bites on Broadway | Skagway, Alaska
We came to Alaska on a whim. We closed our former businesses in Mississippi and sold everything to travel and search for a new season. The last place we ever thought we would land was Skagway, Alaska. But, we were offered an opportunity to sell jewelry in Skagway and took it. It didn't take us long to realize that the jewelry business was not for us. However, in the process we fell in love with Alaska and met Ms. Shirley, a life-long Skagway resident who became a second mother to us. She convinced us to stay and open a coffee shop, despite the fact that we didn't know a thing about baking. However, our mothers do! So we traveled home to Mississippi where we spent four months in our mother's kitchens learning to prepare distinct southern recipes. We came back to Alaska with a delicious menu and have been serving residents and visitors to Skagway ever since!
Our Bed & Breakfast getaway includes food, lodging, and winter season excursions. With mountain views from each room, fresh-baked goods, delicious meals, and endless adventure opportunities you are sure to find the ideal Alaskan retreat.

Cruising Alaska Haines
Hey Cruisers, Today we are going to take a look at a port rich with Tlingit culture and history and well known for the bald eagle population, and it just may be one of our favorite stops in Alaska. We are talking about Haines, and if you're lucky enough to visit Haines on your cruise vacation, you’re likely to quickly fall in love with the charm and natural beauty here. Heading off the dock the first stop is this handy map perfect for a few snapshots and directions.
Just off the dock, Orca Gifts is a great stop for souvenirs or a quick snack.
Just steps away from the ship, you'll see a Decommissioned military outpost called Fort Seward. The Fort turned into a national landmark, and as you wander here, you'll get a sense of being transported to a very different time.
Haines is a terrific place for a nature walk, and if you like taking photos, there are tons of scenic spots very close to ship. You can take some beautiful shots with the ship in the background.
If you venture on a little further following the curve around to the harbor you’ll have even more awesome photo ops. This sign makes a wonderful background.
Just up the hill from the harbor is the Sheldon Museum and Cultural Center, a nice place to learn more about Haines. Across the street you’ll find one of many inviting shops. Haines’ shops and restaurants have a downhome unspoiled feel. If you are looking for truly distinctive souvenirs, then you’ll definitely want to check out some of these shops. Here’s look at just some of what you’ll find. Haines is unlike most of your other port stops - you won't find large chain jewelry shops and big retail here. These are locally owned shops with incredibly cordial locals, and some truly unique items. And speaking of unique, how about the Hammer Museum? Stop in if you have time. It’s surprisingly fascinating.
If you're looking for some exercise and an incredible way to see Haines first hand, stop by and talk to our friends at Sockey Cycle. You can bike to cannery cove, pedal through town, and explore the nearby beauty, and yeah, maybe burn off a few buffet calories. Another great option for scenic adventure is the Takshanuk Mountain Trail by 4x4 excursion. These vehicles are super fun, and a great way to see the natural beauty of this area. There are some awe-inspiring views on this trip you just won’t see on other excursions.
Alaska Cruise 10 September 2001
The first family cruise to Alaska, unfortunately at a sad time, though that did not diminish Alaska's beauty.
