Squeeze Tours The U.S.: “I Think That We're, Probably, a Popular Cult Band”
Squeeze Tours The USA: “I Think That We're, Probably, a Popular Cult Band”
NOTE: Thanks to our subscribers who caught our mistake on Chris' name. I haven't spoken the guys name out loud in 20 years but still got it wrong with a script right in front of me. LOL
August 20, 2019 – It's the 40th anniversary of the two main singer/songwriters and co-founders Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook. The band came in big with their self titled debut album in 1978 but it was their sophomore album, “Cool for Cats” the following year that had some critics comparing Difford and Tilbrook to Lennon and McCartney – this is usually the kiss of death. There were three British hits on that second album, “Up the Junction,””Slap and Tickle” plus the title tune. So far Squeeze has had 12 hits in England and only 2 in the U.S. “Hourglass” from 1987 and “853-5937 the following year though tunes like “Pulling Mussels (From the shell),” “Tempted” and “Cool for Cats” got loads of airplay on FM radio.
Difford told Billboard Magazine they don't always feel that they did the best versions of tunes when they recorded them so expect some changes on their US tour. (they are in Englewood, NJ. Tonight, I don't like looking backwards, mostly, but this being the object of the tour, it was really lovely to do that. To examine the songs and treat them like they were new songs. Some of the versions aren't exactly like the records and probably, where we didn't like the records, they sound a bit different.
Both singer/songwriters have had their own solo careers and that's helped them stay together. Difford said, I think we've managed to get this far by just giving ourselves a lot of space. We don't see each other from one tour to the next and or from one record to the next, and I think that distance and that gap gives you renewed enthusiasm. And a desire to be back in the band that you started when you were 17 years old.” Tilbrook adds, I think that the key to maintaining our partnership is trying our best to work together and I will always be honest with Chris. I've always said that Chris Difford was my biggest influence. I don't believe that any artist can part and parcel themselves up because you either give your all to something or you don't, and we've always given our all to everything we've worked on.
Interestingly Tilbrook, even after 15 albums, doesn't consider Squeeze a heritage act adding, I think that we're, probably, a popular cult band. We never certainly had mass success here at any one time. On the east coast and in the Midwest, maybe Chicago, and the west coast. But we have a hardcore group of people that like us. I'll tell you that there's an interesting thing about streaming now is that there's a whole bunch of kids that are coming to our shows that have nothing to do with parents, I believe. They've discovered us for themselves, because with streaming you just have this whole buffet of stuff.
The guys also said that, Selling records and chart positions is something from the past, like a language I'd almost forgotten about. I suppose as songwriters we're a bit like watchmakers: people don't want new watches anymore but they still want to read the time.” - by John Beaudin

(Full Concert), Cleveland; Jane's Addiction at Jacobs Pavilion at Nautica in 2012.
Led by the flamboyant, outspoken Perry Farrell, Jane's Addiction blended elements of art rock, punk, metal, funk and glamour into an ambitious musical juxtaposition of sublime beauty and utter decadence....
Great bands break rules, but legends write their own. Janes Addiction are still one of the most influential bands in the alternative rock genre, inspiring rock legends like Rage Against the Machine, the Smashing Pumpkins and even Nirvana. This North American tour coincides with the launch of their latest studio album, The Great Escape Artist.

Floetry Bio
The English Neo Soul duo comprising of Natalie Stewart (the Floacist) and Marsha Ambrosius (the Songstress), first began to capture attention in the UK during the late 90's. Formed in 1999, having met through their love of basketball some ten years earlier, the Brit school alumni's Ambrosius and Stewart began writing songs and playing shows in and around London on various performance poetry stages.
A bold move to the states in 2000 allowed the ladies to accomplish what many UK artists fail to do; find success overseas, as America wholeheartedly embraced them. After moving from Atlanta to Philly and signing a management deal with Julius Erving III, and becoming regulars at the infamous Black Lilly jam sessions, Floetry's poetic delivery with musical intent captured the eye of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the ladies soon began recording with the Philly native.
Signing a deal with Dreamworks by the end of 2000 Floetry recorded two studio albums Floetic (2002) and Flo'Ology (2005) and one live album Floacism (2003). Floetic sold over 788,000 copies in the United States alone. The album spawned the singles Floetic, the top ten songs Say Yes, and Getting Late. Following their success both in the charts and on the underground scene, Floetry released their live album Floacism, featuring the single `Wanna B Where U R' (This Is A Love Song). Flo'Ology followed with the release of SupaStar featuring Common.
Firmly established as sought after talents in the game Floetry were recognized for their talents by receiving nominations for an impressive 7 Grammy Awards, they also picked up 3 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards and went on to pen classics for Earth Wind & Fire, Michael Jackson (Marsha only), Jill Scott, Macy Gray, Glenn Lewis (Marsha only), and Bilal to name but a few.
In December 2014 the ladies surprised the industry as Floetry reunited with Stewart joining Ambrosius on stage during her solo concert at The Clapham Grand in London for an impromptu performance of their first single Floetic! A few weeks later Ambrosius joined Stewart on stage at her December 2014 evening with the Floacist show at Alchemy Croydon.
February 2015, Stewart confirmed that the duo would be touring in 2015 and on May 16th, 2015, Floetry reunited to perform their first show in almost nine years at the Pepsi Funk Festival in College Park, Georgia. After a critically acclaimed 43 shows Reunion Tour across the United States culminating with a homecoming show in Brixton, South London where their journey first began. The Floetry train is full steam ahead, as Natalie and Marsha continue to please audiences worldwide with their renowned live show and with new recorded material in the works.

Counting Crows - Rain King Roma 4 luglio 2015
