Japanese Street Food - KOBE BEEF A5 Steak Teppanyaki Osaka Japan
Osaka Street Food Guide: Dotonbori ★ ONLY in JAPAN #23 大阪道頓堀食い倒れ挑戦
Osaka is known as Japan's kitchen and for good reason! It's loaded with some of the best and cheapest restaurants and street stands anywhere.
Enter Dotonbori, the old entertainment district of Osaka that's also ground zero for cheap and easy to find street food. John Daub and Kevin Riley, a long-term resident of Osaka take their stomachs down the Dotonbori strip. We also introduce a very Osakan word: Kuidaore meaning eat until you drop!
Street food on Dotonbori:
★ Takoyaki
Called octopus ball by newbies to Japan, these round treats normally come topped with a tangy thick soy sauce, Japanese mayonaise, and dried fish and seaweed. Some shops go even further adding half boiled eggs or mountains of green negi!
A bowl of 6 to 8 balls costs 380 to 450 Yen.
Recommended shop: Creo-Ru Takoyaki
★ Kushikatsu
Another Osaka specialty you can find at a few stands. It's skewered and battered meats and vegetables deep fried until golden. pTake each skewer and dip it once in the special bath bin near the table or register. You won't be disappointed! Vegetables start at 60 yen and meats at 150 yen. Large Tiger Shrimps can go for 380 yen for one! Prices are listed on the menu outside the shop.
★ Gyoza
Osaka has it's own variety of dumplings. What's different? It's cheaper and made in Osaka! 180 yen for 6 gyoza!
★ Ramen
A few shops serve up hot bowls on the street side. Get a ticket at the vending machine for about 600 yen and enjoy!
Recommended shop: Kinryu Ramen (The one with the Dragon!)
★ Crab legs
Who would have thought crab was big in Osaka, but one of the most dominant restaurants serve them char-grilled right at the front of the street. The also have kani miso or crab brains served in a half shell. 500 yen for that. Yum.
Recommended shop: Kani Doraku
★ More!!!
The more you walk around, the more Dotonbori will surprise you.

[Osaka] Kobe Beef Teppanyaki
EDIT: fixed and updated the name/location. It's now confirmed correct!
Steakhouse Kozai
「すてーきはうす 香西」
Sorry about the quality, the video was shot on my mobile phone so the video and sound isn't as good as other professional videos on youtube. But I hope you get to enjoy those sexy pieces of meat!
Sooo one of the highlights of our graduation trip is spending tons of money at this crazy teppanyaki place offering superb Kobe cuts.
When the 7 of us walked in, there was 2 more guests just finishing up their lunch, so we had the undivided attention of a lvl 99 skilled Teppanyaki chef.
The Kobe Beef lunch set was ~11k Yen, and the other beef cuts were about 5k and 2.5k. But boy was it a show for us. I have eaten many things and really love to eat but the moment I sank my teeth into that Kobe Beef Cube, I just smiled and felt like I was transported to another place. There was just a burst of flavour and the meat tasted so tender but had a sort of light firmness to it. Hands down the most insane thing I've eaten after being alive for 27 years.
Recommendation to anyone visiting Japan : MUST eat at least once in your life a Kobe Steak teppanyaki set, lunch prices are much cheaper.
Garlic Bread - 300 Yen
Top up to fried rice - +300 Yen
Beer - 600 Yen

BEST Sushi So Far In Osaka and a Quick Visit to Nara - Japanese Food Travel in Osaka!
► Check out our Osaka Food Guide for details on restaurants in these videos:
On Day 12 in Osaka, Japan, we decided to first take a quick day trip to Nara, a city that’s about a 45 minute train ride from Osaka. We then returned to Osaka, and had some of the finest sushi I had during my trip there.
00:27 Trip to Nara - Nara is an old and historical town in Japan, not far from Osaka and Kyoto. It’s very easy to get there by public transportation. The first thing you’ll notice as soon as you arrive to Nara are the deer - they are free roaming all over the city, and people love to interact with them.
2:48 Todai-ji Temple - 500 JPY ($4.17) - One of the biggest and most famous temples in Nara is the Todai-ji Temple, and although it was intensely busy, we decided to pay the entrance fee and go inside. It was good to see, but it was a very busy day that we visited.
4:09 Lunch at Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶) - After walking around Nara for a while, we headed back towards the train station, and had lunch at a restaurant called Happoh Restaurant (和食屋 八寶). The food was alright, but not the best. We then took the train back to Osaka to do some shopping and eating.
6:15 Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai - Tenjinbashisuji Shotengai is the longest shopping street in Japan, and it goes on for something like 2.6 km. We got back to Osaka, and walked around this area, before eating some amazing sushi.
7:23 Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店) - While walking around the shopping market, I noticed a line of people, all waiting for a turn to get into Harukoma Sushi (春駒 支店), a famous sushi restaurant in Osaka. I had researched this restaurant and had wanted to eat here, but I didn’t know when we were going to get there, or where it was - but we stumbled into it, and decided to go straight in line to eat there. The sushi turned out to be some of the best sushi I had in Osaka. It wasn’t fancy, but it was good quality, big pieces of sushi and fish, and it felt like we were at a fish market. Awesome sushi, good prices, and friendly service.
Read more about this restaurant on my blog:
That was all for Day 12 in Osaka - it was another good day, and the sushi was the highlight for me.

KOBE BEEF IN JAPAN (神戸ビーフ) - MASSIVE Japanese Food tour in Osaka + Affordable WAGYU Steak in Japan
WAGYU STEAK in Kobe, Japan! Today we sampled the most prized beef in the whole world - Kobe. We traveled from Osaka to Kobe by train specifically for this dish! We went to a restaurant called Kobe Kikusui Kitanosaka Honten on a rainy afternoon in Japan and proceeded to have the world's most tender and juicy beef! It was definitely the best steak we have ever had!
Although we didn't get to sample any Japanese street food we did eat some other famous food in Japan : Okonomiyaki! A Osaka speciality, this Japanese savoury pancake is packed with hearty ingredients and coated in sauce! We tried it at Fukutaro restaurant in Dotonbori.

Osaka vs Hiroshima Okonomiyaki | Which one is better? ★ ONLY in JAPAN
Okonomiyaki is considered the soul food of both Osaka and Hiroshima, and both styles are must-try dishes in Japan ー but how are they different?
Let’s go to Hiroshima and Osaka to learn from local chefs and see what’s inside those savory pancakes. What exactly are the ingredients? Which okonomiyaki do we recommend?
Nicknamed “Japanese Pizza” or “Japanese Savory Pancake” Okonomiyaki is a fun dish served all over the country on teppanyaki tables but no where is there a passion for it than in Hiroshima and Osaka.
Hiroshima vs Osaka!
Osaka vs Hiroshima!
In this episode, Kevin Riley and John Daub battle it out discussing why they like each one. Kevin is a long term resident of Osaka for over 20 years. John lived in Hiroshima twice, a regular customer at the city's Okonomimura (Okonomiyaki Town).
