Chinwag with Andrew Weatherall Part 3 (3/6)
Chinwag is a chat about life and whatever else comes up, hosted monthly by therapist Chris Madden at Outlaws Yacht Club, Leeds UK.
Christ-on-a-bike! What can you say about Andrew Weatherall?
Put it this way....quite simply; the world we live in wouldn't be the same without his polymathic presence. Andrew has been kicking against the pricks for the last 20-odd years. He's a total one-off, a shapeshifter, a maverick who doesn't play by 'rules' - he creates them. Always refusing to be categorised, he has constantly redefined expectations of the music he makes and plays.
Rightfully so, he is internationally renowned as a DJ, producer, music maker. To be honest though it seems a bit gauche to label him within such confines because, ultimately, he's an artist.
The Guvnor joined us on the Chinwag settee for a chat about.... confectionery, a passion for collecting vinyl, approaches to remixing, his very brief time as a druid and much more.....

Chinwag supports MAP (musicandartsproduction.org) a Leeds based registered charity which offers arts and music courses to young people who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.
We were delighted to welcome writer, broadcaster and DJ Dave Haslam just after the release of his wonderful book 'Life After Dark: A History of British Nightclubs & Music Venues’ (published by Simon & Schuster), a passionate authoritative history of significant venues and great nights out. Painstakingly researched and lovingly told, it's a must read if you are at all interested in story behind British nightlife over the last century.
Dave's amazing journey so far has seen him making his DJing debut at the Hacienda in 1986. Ian Brown, Tim Burgess, and the Chemical Brothers were regular visitors to his events there and all have credited him as an inspiration. Sonic Youth have slept on his floor; Tony Wilson threatened to shoot him; he took John Peel to see Public Enemy; he's cooked cauliflower cheese for Morrissey; Neil Tennant introduced him to Tracey Emin... and he has appeared on radio and TV on dozens of occasions. This was a really special evening with a genuinely heart-warming message.

Why You Need to Stop Whining Like a Little B*!#H !!
A Pint With JG Season 2 Episode 8. This week JG's ranting about why it's so infuriating when salespeople whine about how hard their job is.
He's drinking a pint of Outlaws Pale at Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds. A lovely mellow pub with a quirky atmosphere and some great records.

Chinwag with Dean Cavanagh Part 4 (4/4)
Chinwag is a chat about life and whatever else comes up, hosted monthly by therapist Chris Madden at Outlaws Yacht Club, Leeds UK.
Bradford based writer Dean Cavanagh is a one-off ; an original acid house impresario, music maker (with Glamorous Hooligan) and more famously screen/playwright- both solo and as writing partner to Irvine Welsh. He brought along the critically lauded but little seen screen gem ‘Wedding Belles’. Before we settle down to watch the film, Dean shared with us a no-holds barred insight into the workings of the film industry. This Chinwag is not for the fainthearted!
Praise for Wedding Belles…
One of the freshest and most engaging scripts I've seen on British television in years. It was brilliantly performed.
Wow! I'm blown away. Irvine Welsh and Dean Cavanagh's
Wedding Belles is simply a breath of fresh air. It's like a cross between a Quentin Tarantino and Mike Leigh film. It's got energy, hilarity, passion, irreverence and heart. A GREAT BIG HEART!

Just when you think you know someone they offer up surprises which changes what you believe about them. We were delighted to welcome back Justin Robertson for a chat about his 'Everything is Turbulence' exhibition of prints and oil paintings at Outlaws yacht Club which ran throughout April 2015. To launch the exhibition Justin joined us for a Chinwag about life and whatever else comes up...
Following his acclaimed exhibition at London’s Neu Gallery, Justin presented his collection of work, an exploration into a fantastical world where the human mind is turned outwards searching for mystery in these prescriptive times rallying against the certainties of our scientific era, this collection celebrates the possibilities of the imagination, as well as touching on the two subjects all good art should... Death and Monsters.
Having completed his latest long player, also titled ‘’ Everything Is Turbulence’’, the ever restless Robertson put aside his musical devices and took up his brushes , for a spot of artistic exorcism. A compliment and extension of his recorded work, this collection covers many of his main concerns and interests.
Themes include magik, possession, the supernatural, fantastical creatures, the history of belief, irrationality, past times and cultures, uncertainty and alien lifeforms....Justin draws on a variety of influences from mid 20th century science fiction, dystopian literature, Stone Age cave painting, folk art, fantastical creatures from the medieval era through to the golden periods of Elizabethan and Jacobean exploration, the trashy covers of 60’s and 70’s sci-fi fiction, ancient Greek myth, a healthy reverence for the Hammer Horror series, in fact anywhere that imagination is allowed to explore beyond the known, to create its own vision of reality, a pallet of fear, mystery and wonder.
Born, 1968, lives and works in London.

For 23 years Alice Nutter was a member of the Leeds anarchist collective Chumbawamba, whose ethos was to live and work communally. The band's own brand of agit-prop had a cult following from 1984 onwards until (to everybody's surprise, including Chumbawamba's) the band had a mega hit here and in the States with Tubthumping. When Chumbawamba morphed into an acoustic folk combo 10 years ago, several members of the band left to do other things. Alice focused on writing. A stint as a staff writer on Leeds Other paper in the early 90's convinced her that she was a rubbish journalist, so started to write for stage, screen and radio. Ten years on, Alice has had three plays at West Yorkshire Playhouse (with a fourth Barnbow Canaries due to run June/July) several radio plays and continually writes for the screen. Her credits include working with Jimmy McGovern on Moving On, The Street and The Accused and has written for other series including The Mill, The White Princess, No Offence.
DJ Ease (Nightmare's on Wax) - Chinwag pt1
NoW needs no introduction- it is an institution. Despite having been at the forefront of the British-led dance scene since the off, they remain absolutely singular in every aspect of their being! Born and bred in Leeds, George now resides in Ibiza and begins the world tour of his new and much anticipated long player (the exceptional ‘Feelin’ Good’) with a visit to Chinwag. As Warp Records longest standing artist - – “the granddaddy,” as he puts it- George’s influence spreads globally and we are honoured that he will be sharing some insights, tales and maybe a few tunes with us.
This is a FREE event in aid of the Last Night A DJ Saved My Life Foundation which unites the global dance music community to raise vital awareness and funds for humanitarian, social and environmental causes. NoW and Chinwag invite you to dig deep on the night and support the amazing work of the LNADJ Foundation who will be attending and passing round the hat. Please give as much as you can afford.
Hosted by therapist Chris Madden, Chinwag invites you to lean in and listen to a conversation about life, creativity and anything else that comes up. Unlike a Q&A, this is an opportunity to get to know someone a bit better, hear a few of their tales, find out what makes them tick, share some insights and ask a few questions too.
Held at the intimate Outlaws Yacht Club in Leeds, Chinwag is a unique chance to explore the lives and minds of our inspiring guests.

Chinwag with Eddie Piller Part 5 (5/5)
Chinwag is a chat about life and whatever else comes up, hosted monthly by therapist Chris Madden at Outlaws Yacht Club, Leeds UK.
Acid jazz impresario Eddie Piller joined us on the Chinwag settee to chat life, crazy experiences, being in the thick of it and what drives the desire to live a life in music.
Undoubtedly best known for the label he co-founded in 1988 with Gilles Peterson, Eddie’s influence on culture goes back to the beginning of the 80’s and his love of Mod. He has subsequently been there in the continual reinvention of this very British style/music/cultural phenomenon, as a commentator, influencer and now, elder statesman.
Through his Acid Jazz label, he not only defined a sound and style but helped to launch the careers of, amongst others, Jamiroquai James Taylor Quartet, Brand New Heavies and Galliano. As a music lover and DJ, he plays all over the world and is renowned for his incredible radio shows. Eddie’s story is both riotous and warming.
