FEELS JUST LIKE HONG KONG! Thai Street Food Tour | Bangkok, Chinatown (Yaowarat)
One thing I love doing is checking out different Chinatowns around the world. Every city has their own unique version of Chinatown. Some are are very impressive, and some, not so much.
Bangkok's Chinatown had me completely baffled. When I turned the corner and saw all the glowing lights and busy life, I immediately lit up. All of a sudden I felt like I was actually in a Chinese city, like Hong Kong or Shanghai. It really exceeded my expectations with the scale of this bustling street.
Every corner of this street had food of some sort, so you are bound to find something that will cure your cravings. From skewered style street food, open aired eateries to upscale Chinese restaurants.
I was checking out the hustle and bustle of this lively street and was drawn in by the street food. I saw a particular dish called Rice Cake with Sweet Radish, which I had never heard of before. Very interesting treat as the sweet radish looks like some type of minced meat, and taste like chopped up mushrooms. The radish is simply stir fried, topped with minced pork and sitting on a bed of rice cakes. The soy sauce seasoning gives it a salty aroma which goes perfectly with the rice cakes.
Next up I went for a very popular Thai dessert. Traditional Thai Pancakes could be found all over Bangkok, but this particular pancake is little more interesting. Usually Thai Pancakes are a sweet dessert, but this place had two different flavors, one of which was a savory. The savory one had grind up shrimp, coconut shreds, cilantro and egg all wrapped in a crispy sweet pancake dough. The sweetness and savory was a little contradicting for my liking, but still as interesting little treat if you want to explore your senses. The sweet pancake on the other hand was definitely more tasty as the entire pancake was all sweet with no contradictions. It was simply topped with shredded coconut and sweet egg yolk.
Finally, I saw a sea of people lining up outside a particular stand, so I just had to go where the crowd was. Turns out, the crowd of people all had a sweet tooth. This store is known for their freshly baked bread filled with delicious sweet fillings of all flavors. I went with the butter egg custard, butter milk and butter chocolate. The egg custard was sweet with a delicious fluffy egg taste, and compared directly to the custard egg bun which are found at dim sum restaurants. The butter milk has a sweet milky flavor and looks very similar to condensed milk, but not as thick. The butter chocolate looks and taste like a melted down milk chocolate. The rich creamy sweetness was a little overwhelming for me as the sugary sweetness seemed to have taken over the whole thing. My favorite would have to be the butter egg custard, as it is very similar to one of my favorite Chinese desserts. Also, I did like the freshly toasted bread which gives it a warm crispy texture.
I had such an amazing time visiting the Bangkok Chinatown, and I hope you did was well.
Best way to get here is to taxi or tuk tuk. However, there is an MRT station about a 10 minute walk away if you prefer that option.

Tourist Attractions in CHINA Can Be Insane!
Welcome to another China travel vlog! Was hanging out and got some awesome footage of the Ancient Culture Street in Tianjin.
This spot got me thinking about how crowded tourist destinations in China can be. China is a huge country with a massive population of over 1.3 billion people!
China has also seen rapid urbanization and the creation of the middle class. This has allowed millions of people to afford travelling around the country where previously, only the wealthy could do.
This Ancient Culture Street had so many people here because it was during a Chinese Holiday known as Wu Yi which translates to May 1st. Many people had a 3-4 day holiday and that is a perfect time for them to travel with their families.
This is something you need to be careful of. When one place is touted as one of the top tourist attractions in China or famous, it will get ambushed by a crowd of Chinese people. This is how it works here. It doesn't take long for the news to travel. It happens in other countries as well. Chinese people will talk about tourist destinations in world such as Thailand, and next thing you know, Thailand is flooded with Chinese tourists.
The same happened here. This Ancient Culture Street is well known in Tianjin so it is one of the places that gets flooded on holidays by Chinese tourists from other cities/provinces. If you don't mind all the people, you can still enjoy your time here, but if you feel claustrophobic, then you need to be careful!
Another famous area of Tianjin is the Tianjin Eye. It is basically a replica of the London Eye; a ferries wheel you can go on to get an aerial view of the city. I went on it years ago but I decided to just visit this area for some photos and videos!
This is one of the landmarks of the city. And yes, this place was packed!
People from all over the country came here to wait in line to hop onto this Ferris wheel and luckily I did not.
Chinese national holidays can be a nightmare to travel in. If you are thinking about travelling and want to know what to do in China, check to see if Chinese people will also be on vacation during that time. It will save a lot of headache and places won't be so packed. Don't get me wrong, places will still be packed when they aren't on holiday, but the holidays will amplify this phenomenon.
Hope you benefited from this blog post and video!

New Rot Fai Night Market Ratchada Bangkok Part 1
Explore Rod Fai Night Market — One of the most attractive night markets in Bangkok
Big, vibrant outdoor market with music featuring many vendors selling a variety of goods & food
The new Rot Fai Market in the Ratchada area of Bangkok and it brings the same night bazaar feeling from its original location, into an area of the city that is close and easier to access thanks to the nearby Cultural Centre MRT Underground Station. Although the Srinakarin branch is much larger, This new Train Market is more compact, meaning it’s easier to pop in for a spot of browsing anytime from 6: PM to 12: PM, Thursday to Sunday.
Great food and reasonable price of goods to buy. Locals are also here to shop and eat. This night market is awesome! Lots of pubs to sit and drink but also some fantastic snack food stalls. The shopping stalls are all really clean and neat. Great bargains too. Beware though this place is busy!
4 rows of food followed by multiple rows of shopping. Surrounded by a perimeter of 2-storied bars. Overall this place was just right.
HISTORY OF THE 3 TRAIN NIGHT MARKETS
The Train Night Market Ratchada
Talat Rotfai, also known as the Train Night Market, is a chain of night markets in Bangkok, Thailand. Originally located near the Chatuchak Weekend Market on State Railway of Thailand (SRT) land, it has since relocated to Si Nakharin Road, with a second branch at Ratchada and a third in Kaset–Nawamin. The markets focus on antiques and vintage-style items, especially clothing and home accessories, as well as a large variety of food and drink.[1] Its primary location at Si Nakharin has been ranked the most popular night market in Bangkok.
The market was founded by Pairod Roikaew, previously an antique dealer, in 2010. It was located on part of the SRT's railway yard on Kamphaeng Phet Road, among unused warehouses, tracks and rolling stock (hence the name). Featuring a vintage atmosphere, it quickly became popular with Bangkok's youth, but was forced to close down in 2013 when the area was marked for construction of the Bang Sue Central Station. Pairod reopened the market at a new location on Si Nakharin Road, behind the Seacon Square shopping center. The new location, despite being far from the city center with no rapid transit access, continued to be popular, and a second branch next to The Esplanade shopping center was opened on Ratchadaphisek Road in 2015. The third branch on Kaset–Nawamin (Prasoet Manukit) Road was opened later the same year
