Alligator at Palm Island Park, Mount Dora, Florida
A resident of Mount Dora this fourteen maybe fifteen-foot alligator is known to live on Lake Dora and can be seen swimming or basking in the sun off the boardwalk at Palm Island Park, Mount Dora, Florida.
Alligators are such a majestic animal to sit and watch. The always capture our attention when we see them. As much as I have learned and know about the Florida Alligator I am still in awe at how much there is that I do not know yet. One fun fact that I have always found interesting is how to tell how big an alligator is. If you look at an alligator and look from the end of their snout up to their eyes, however, many inches there are, is how many feet long they are. Just my fun little fact for today!
If you would like to learn even more about this wonderful reptile there are numerous books that you can find to read about Florida Alligators. This book is one of my favorites for learning about Alligators.

A Day in Mount Dora, Florida | Lake Dora | Parks
Hey everyone this is Orlando Streets and today we are driving to Mount Dora Florida which is 46 minutes drive from Downtown Orlando.
Approximately 13,000 people live in Mount Dora. Mount Dora retains the flavor of a small town with many historic buildings and large canopy trees.
The town is also known for its variety of antique specialty shops and numerous special events throughout the year.
Mount Dora's annual events draw thousands of visitors including the Mount Dora Arts Festival in February, Spring Fest in March, Sail Boat Regatta in early April, Independence Day Parade on July 4th, Bicycle festival in early October, Craft Fair in late October and the Annual Christmas festival from November thru December.
Mount Dora also overlooks Lake Dora. Lake Dora is approximately 6 miles long covering 4,500 acres of water. Lake Dora has some of the most expensive real estate in Lake County.
Mount Dora is home to many parks. My favorites are along the Lake Dora shoreline namely; Elizabeth Evans Park, Granthum Park and Palm Island Park.
My favorites are Granthum Park and Palm Island Park.
Palm Island Park has a raised boardwalk about a third of mile long. There is lots of wildlife to see along the boardwalk and plenty of places to sit down and just enjoy the view. The Spanish moss is beautiful at sunset and the area usually isn't too crowded.
The Alexander House opened in 1883 – a two-story hotel with 10 rooms. A popular winter retreat for hunters, fishermen, and boaters. The Alexander House was renamed Lakeside Inn and remains in operation today. President Coolidge, President Eisenhower, Thomas Edison, and Henry Ford have visited this iconic hotel.
I hope you enjoyed our visit to Mount Dora.

Annoying Siren at Palm Island, Mt Dora
Parks and Recreation have chose to ignore complaints about the siren at sundown at Palm Island. The SIREN is completely unnecessary. It disturbs the wildlife, it scares people's dogs, it scares little people and elderly and it's insulting. It's not a penitentiary, it's a park. And people like to go to the park at the end of the day to relax and take in the sunset. Loud sirens have no place in this environment. Perhaps Mt. Dora officials need to counsel the Parks people on who they are serving and why. Once the people you work for become your enemy it's time to find a new career.

Mount Dora
Encompassing over eight square miles around Lake Dora, Mount Dora offers numerous parks, a lakefront boardwalk, nature walks on Palm Island, beautiful sunsets, and a downtown, highlighted with the most interesting and varied antique shopping around.
It is the beautiful landscaping, irresistible shopping, and small town charm that make Mount Dora a great place to live -- and approximately 10,500 residents would agree!
Video: Open carry could soon come to Mount Dora, on certain days
Mount Dora leaders are about to discuss whether people will be allowed to have open containers in the downtown area.

Jensen Beach, Florida's Treasure Coast
We spend a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of Miami in this laid back Old Florida town: Jensen Beach in Martin County. See you on the road, riding with my RV
Jensen Beach is located in Martin County, Florida, in an area north of Palm Beach and south of Cape Canaveral forgotten by time. Here, life a lot more laid back and high rise condos are few and far between.
In this week’s video we visit a small town in the Treasure Coast of Florida. The name of the coast originated from the loss of the Spanish Treasure Fleet in a 1715 hurricane in these shores. It is a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the big city, being just over two hours away. This is also the Indian River Lagoon area. The lagoon is the large body of water between the barrier islands and the mainland.
We are staying at the Pitchford RV and Mobile Home Park, which is so old school that they don’t even take credit cards. We know it is going to be a great time, exactly what we need. Beside the beach, we also sample the local cuisine, visit a historic site called the House of Refuge, the fishing village of Salerno, and neighboring Stuart.

Mt. Dora Catecombs | Central Florida Roadtrip Shorts
In 1959, author Pat Frank, who lived in nearby Tangerine, Florida wrote one of the first apocalyptic novels of the nuclear age; a book named, Atlas Babylon. The story is centered on a small Florida town that somehow is spared the ravages of a nuclear holocaust. The fictional Florida town of Fort Repose in that book, was based on Mt. Dora.
