Palm Point Gainesville Fl
I decided to take a break today and appreciate God's creation. This is the trail heading out from a place called Palm Point on Newmans Lake.
Nature Trail and Boardwalk at Loblolly Woods
The boardwalk, if done from northeast to southwest, can be an ADA compliant out and back trail as it is wide boardwalk. The other 1/2 of the trail is soft sand with exposed tree roots. It is a popular short-cut for pedestrians, bicyclists, and we saw a few strollers take the entire main path. The trail by Hogtown Creek is soft sand and mud, and is uneven and poorly marked, but is fun to scramble along if you are young and fit.

Florida Travel: Explore Gainesville in 60 Seconds
Uncover the unexpected in North Central Florida with a visit to Gainesville! A combination of college-town vitality and protected natural beauty makes it a place “where nature and culture meet.” Gainesville offers miles of biking and hiking trails, along with lots of wildlife viewing opportunities in seven area Florida State Parks. Canoe or paddleboard scenic rivers, or take a dive into a freshwater spring. Then head downtown for some of the best local farm-to-fork dining around. Wash it all down with a beverage from a local brewery, and catch some theater or local music before calling it a day. Gainesville is full of fun, inexpensive and often free attractions for the family and peaceful, relaxed outdoor experiences for those seeking a slower pace. Whatever your passion, the nature and culture of Gainesville and Alachua County await.

Mountain Biking The Rock Trails of Gainesville, FL
UPDATE: THESE TRAILS HAVE BEEN PERMANENTLY CLOSED. THE ROCK CHURCH HAS DECIDED TO USE THE LAND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.
This week we're visiting The Rock Trails of Gainesville, didn't know at the time of filming, but it turns out this loop is on property owned by the Rock Church of Gainesville, coolest church I've ever been to.
Overall the trails is an XC kind of trail, but it has a nice short advanced loop with good elevation change and some nice features. It has varied terrain with some open grass areas as well as some wooded areas.
Rock Trails on Trailforks:
Broken Arrow Bluff Nature Park Alligator's
Beautiful hidden little park nice trail around lake Kanapaha but rough.Yes watch out for Alligator's no for real don't let your dog near any water edge or your dumb ass.The rock is about 30 feet tall truly beautiful and very unusual.Climbing it is easy . I have meditation on top and a bit of love. Bring a girl friend who not a woosy.
Cellon Oak Tree
I finally took the drive on a Friday afternoon to hug this beautiful tree. It is noted to be the largest live oak tree in Florida. How large, you ask? So large that you can see it through satellite photos from Google Earth. I could just picture families having picnics in the cooler months. Friends throwing around a football or frisbee. I could see myself sitting on a blanket, holding a Mi Apa cafe con leche in one hand and a book in the other while Dexter naps beside me. It's most popular for having engagement, wedding and/or family photos.

A 13-year old girl from Attucks Middle School ended up on life support at Texas Children's Hospital two days after a fight off campus.
Kashala Francis' mother, Mamie Jackson, says her daughter told her she was attacked by two girls after school on Thursday, and that another girl later jumped in and kicked her in the head.
Jackson says when her daughter returned home Thursday afternoon, she had a bruise on her face, but insisted she was okay.

Southern Glades Trail
One of South Florida’s more obscure marked trails, the Southern Glades Trail parallels the C-111 canal from a lock adjoining US 1 south of Florida City to an access point off CR 9336 just a couple miles from the entrance of Everglades National Park. Best tackled on a bike, the 12-mile route follows the park’s edge through an extremely remote Everglades landscape. It is also utilized by Eastern Continental Trail hikers as part of their route from Key West to Big Cypress National Preserve.
NOTE: Currently, there is no access to the trail from the US 1 trailhead. If you park there, you must follow the northbound lanes of US 1 to cross the highway bridge over the canal and then take the ramp on the other side (no vehicles allowed) to reach the start point of the Southern Glades Trail beneath the bridge.

Florida's biggest hill! Summiting Sugarloaf Mountain
Alex and I decided to drive out to Clermont to climb Florida's biggest hill, known as Sugarloaf mountain. This would be a pretty average hill anywhere else, but we couldn't resist the novelty. Surprisingly it's almost a 15% grade in some places, and goes on for about a half mile. If you've been to Florida you'll find this pretty amusing.
Transcript:
If you spend enough time on Wikipedia, it’s easy to get sucked into the wormhole. Recently I came across a list of the biggest hills—in Florida. This is only interesting because Florida is known for being flat everywhere.
Alex and I set out to climb the biggest of these hills on our bikes, and naturally treated the whole endeavor like one big joke. The hill in this picture doesn’t look bad at all, but then again, nothing does on the screen of your iPhone.
Sugarloaf mountain is the most prominent point in Florida, at 245 feet above the surrounding land. The elevation at the summit is 312—hardly a snow capped peak, but still pretty unusual for the sunshine state. In fact, it bests the biggest hills in both Louisiana and Delaware.
I’ve shown videos riding the North Shore of Long Island New York, which is known for being hilly. Clermont is hillier than that in most places.
For some reason we decided to tackle Sugarloaf mountain in the wrong order, descending it first before climbing back up. Alex was wearing flip flops and had his arm in a sling, and I was on a 36 pound fat tire BMX.
That was a hill.
Those who live by the sword, must die by the sword. It was time to pedal this monster back to the summit.
The climb took about five minutes, and it wasn’t that bad, but we were still amazed. Imagine seeing a palm tree in Denver, or a snowflake in Miami. Imagine seeing a rabbi at a Nascar race. I guess what I’m trying to say is that some things are interesting because they’re unexpected. Sugarloaf mountain definitely falls under this category, and so does this whole area North of Orlando.
Naturally, you’d wonder if there are any bike trails around these parts, and there are. Mount Dora has trails, and so does Ocala, with over 85 miles of singletrack and a huge freeride section built in an old quarry. As for Clermont, many road cyclists frequent the area for year round riding and a little taste of elevation.
If you’re from Florida and you ride bikes, Sugarloaf mountain should be on your bucket list, just to say you did. As for Alex and I, it was worth the drive just for the laughs. We were definitely not expecting to see a legitimate hill in Florida. Thanks for riding with me today and I’ll see you next time.
