Scuba diving in Paraty, Brazil
Neil & Jill diving in Paraty, November 2006.
Not the best dive site in the world but we were very curious as to what diving in Brazil would be like. We did 2 dives with UNAdive. I decided to use a latin acoustic soundtrack to accompany the film.

Paraty, Brazil
Paraty is a little fishing town about 3 1/2 hours west of Rio de Janeiro. We took an all day boat cruise in the Bay of Paraty. There was live bossa nova and of course plenty of drinks. We anchored in an alcove and swam in the beautiful water. Mark showed off his diving skills for us and I did an impromptu dance with Estee.

Paraty Brazil
The town is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande (Rio de Janeiro), which is dotted with many tropical islands. Rising up as high as 1,300 meters behind the town are tropical forests, mountains, and waterfalls. Paraty was founded formally as a town by Portuguese colonizers in 1667, in a region populated by the Guaianás Indians.
The Guaianás people who lived where the city now stands called the entire area Paraty. In the Tupi language Paraty means river of fish. Even today the Brazilian Mullet (Mugil Brasiliensis) still come back to spawn in the rivers that spill into the Bay of Paraty. When the region was colonized by the Portuguese, they adopted the Guaianás name for their new town.
After the discovery of the world's richest gold mines in 1696 in the mountains of Minas Gerais, Paraty became an export port for gold to Rio de Janeiro and from there on to Portugal. The ensuing gold rush led to the construction of the Caminho do Ouro or Gold Trail, a 1200 kilometer road, paved in steep areas with large stones, which connected Paraty to Diamantina via Ouro Preto and Tiradentes. Not only was it used to transport gold to Paraty, but it was also used to convey supplies, miners and African slaves by mule train over the mountains to and from the gold mining areas. Two substantial sections of the Caminho do Ouro have been excavated near Paraty and are now a popular tourist destination for hiking.

Paraty Old Town, Brazil, in Sepia.wmv
On the Costa Verde, Green Coast of Rio de Janeiro state of Brazil, about four hours south of Rio itself, is found Paraty. Declared as one of Brazil's first UNESCO heritage sites, Old Town Paraty is laid out in perfect grid of streets studded with priceless classical colonial buildings and churches. As if part of the grid the port of Paraty was whence Portuguese ships sailed from carrying gold and diamonds back to motherland. In high tide the streets closest to the seashore flood, washing off the ancient cobblestones. Closed to vehicular traffic Paraty retains ambiance of bygone era, especially when you are lucky to walk the streets devoid of tourists.
Scuba diving at Ilha dos Meros, Paraty 2013
This was my dive at Ilha dos Meros in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The visibility was between 5-10 meters and a lot of thermocline, the max depth was 12 meters deep, and this footage was taken in a single 35 minutes dive.
We were able to see a little plane wreck, a small statue of the Christ and the masonry logo on a rock wall. The sea life in this region include a lot of small silver fishes shoaling, sting rays (three kinds of it), blow fish (unfortunately my camera stuck when filming this one), and blue, brow and yellow fishes.
The dive was in April 6th, 2013 with the guys of Adrenalina Mergulho ( the instructors with us were Fantasma and Daril. This was filmed with GoPro Hero3 720p / 60fps RAW with SRP BlurFix3 SO CYD filter.

Raining By The Pool Paraty, Brazil
Welcome to my channel, I hope you enjoy watching all the kayak fishing around the UK, mostly in the North Sea - in the sea and river, fishing for cod, bass, tope, dogfish, smoothound, thornback ray, whiting, wrasse and anything else I can target There's scuba diving off the North Norfolk Coast and Suffolk, wreck diving, reef diving, river diving, even Cenote Diving, in the Red Sea off Egypt, the Mediterranean off Malta and Gozo and in Mexico, Brazil, Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Pembrokeshire in Wales, Swanage and Plymouth and of course the diving with sharks in South Africa. There's kayaking too, including surfing sailing and touring in the UK and abroad and a bit of snorkelling, Plenty of videos too of me fiddling with and driving my classic car, a 1973 Triumph Spitfire and other cars get a look in too. There's cooking, eating, travelling around various cities in Europe - Berlin in Germany, Naples and Rome in Italy, plus the Vatican; Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv and elsewhere in Bulgaria; Lefkosia / Nicosia and much of Cyprus, Krakow in Poland, there's Malta too. Istanbul in Turkey just outside Europe too, and Egypt around Hurghada. Further afield there's a bit of South Africa and Latin America with the Mayan Riviera of Mexico and Rio de Janeiro, Paraty and Isla Grande in Brazil. There's even a bit of Northern Ireland and parts of England mixed in with the nonsense of East Anglia in a camper van with my daughters! If you enjoy one video please watch another and consider subscribing so you don't miss future uploads however crap they might be! Thanks and regards, Mark
