Québec, Parliament - Canada HD Travel Channel
The Parliament of Quebec, is similar to those of Toronto and Ottawa, and is worth a visit. Here we find again beautiful stained glass windows. One can visit the chamber of the National Assembly and the council room of the Legislative. The painting in the National Assembly shows the first meeting, when French-and English-speaking deputies faced each other and no-one could understand his counterpart. Today, they all speak french. In exceptional cases, if a member of the Parliament credibly assures to express himself in a particular context only in English, a native speaker is allowed to speak in English.
Today, you can count the number of MPs with an English mother tongue, on the fingers of one hand. Our guide didn't only speak about Canadian politics but asked as well questions about the upcoming federal elections in Germany.
The purple Legislative Council Room was originally the municipal Opera house.

[dt.]

Canada is situated in the northern part of the continent of North America. It has the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Pacific Ocean to the west, and the Arctic Ocean to the north. It is the world's second largest country by area. Both English and French are official languages of Canada. This is indicative of its history as a sought after colony of both English and French powers.
Quebec City is the capital city of the Canadian province of Quebec. Quebec City is known for its French Canadian culture, narrow cobblestone streets, French architecture, and breathtaking views of the St Lawrence River. The most historic part of Quebec City, Old Quebec/Vieux-Quebec, is surrounded by fortified city walls. Old Quebec is thus designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the early 1500’s, the region where Quebec currently stands was home to the indigenous village of Stadacona. Jacques Cartier was the first European to sail the St. Lawrence River and visit Stadacona (present-day Quebec City). Read more on this here:
