Koche Nepal Presents :-
krishna Mandir Patan, Lalitpur, Nepal
Krishna Mandir:
Krishna temple is the most important temple in Patan Durbar Square.[8] It is built in the Shikhara style imported from India although it is unique in its own way. The stone carvings along the beam above the first and second floor pillar is most notable. The first floor pillar carvings narrate the events of the Mahabharata, while on the second floor there are visual carvings from Ramayana.[8][9]
The temple was built in 1637 by King Siddhinarasimh Malla. It is said that one night the King saw the Lord Krishna and his consort Srimati Radha standing in front of the royal palace. He ordered a temple to be built on the same spot.[10] There are 21 golden pinnacles in the temple. Below the pinnacles are 3 stories. The first floor holds the main shrine of Lord Krishna with shrines of Radha and Rukmini at each side. The second floor is dedicated to Lord Shiva and the third to Lokeshwor(Lord Buddha).[1][10]
The square is crowded with thousands of Hindu Pilgrims and devotees during Krishnastami.[11]
Patan Durbar Square:
Patan Durbar Square is situated at the centre of the city of Lalitpur in Nepal. It is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of its attraction is the ancient royal palace where the Malla Kings of Lalitpur resided.
The Durbar Square is a marvel of Newa architecture. The Square floor is tiled with red bricks.[1] There are many temples and idols in the area. The main temples are aligned opposite of the western face of the palace.[2] The entrance of the temples faces east, towards the palace. There is also a bell situated in the alignment beside the main temples.[3] The Square also holds old Newari residential houses. There are various other temples and structures in and around Patan Durbar Square built by the Newa People.
History:
The history of the Durbar Square is not clear. Although the Malla Kings of Lalitpur are given credit for establishing the royal square, it is known that the site is an ancient crossroad. The Pradhanas who settled around the site before the Mallas have connections with the Durbar Square.[1] Some chronicles hint that the history of patan Thakuri Dynasty built a palace and made reforms to the locality but the evidence is minute. Scholars are certain that Patan was a prosperous city since ancient times.[6]
The Malla Kings did make important changes to the square. Most of the current architecture is from the 1600s, constructed during the reign of King Siddhinarasimha Malla and his son Srinivasa sukriti. Some of the notable Mallas Kings who improved the square include Purandarasimha, Sivasimha Malla and Yoganarendra Malla.[1][6]
Important Structures:
Statue of Lion in Patan Durbar Square
Patan is one of the oldest known Buddhist cities. It is a center of both Hinduism and Buddhism with 136 bahals or courtyards and 55 major temples.[7] Most of these structures are in the vicinity of the Durbar Square.

श्री बङ्गालामुखी माई कि जय दर्शन गर्नुस मनले चितएको पुरा गर्नुस । 2018
One of the famous temples of Devi in Kathmandu, the temple of Baglamukhi is situated in Patan (Lalitpur). There are various other small temples inside the Baglamukhi temple premises and this temple is specially crowded on Thursdays as it is considered as the day of Bhagwati.According to the legend, a demon named Bagala had tortured and threatened the lives of the people. The people worshipped and prayed to the goddess Baglamukhi who, pleased by their prayers, came to their rescue and killed the demon. Hence, the people built the temple as a tribute to the goddess and used to call it Bagala. Later, the name of the temple was changed to Baglamukhi. The temple is ruled by the planet Jupiter and Thursday is considered as the special day for worshiping at the temple.
It is also said that worshiping here silences the gossip of the people (enemy). She is also considered as Bhairavi, a type of Matrika Devi, the mother of all speech as she puts an end to the evil gossips that comes out of every speech. The devotees often burn three Agarbatti (incense sticks) or ghee Pala Batti (butter lamps) that they can buy outside and around the temple’s main entrance gate. Yellow color or purple color clothes and flowers are offered to please the goddess as those two are considered to be her favorite color. Some people also wear these color clothes while they perform puja in the temple.
Although the main temple of the goddess is small, the temple premises is very wide and open and it houses various small temples of other gods and goddesses like Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesh, goddess Manakamana, etc. A big temple of Lord Shiva is situated in front of the Baglamukhi temple. Also, there is one pond each, inside and outside of the temple both of which has stone taps.
It is one of the most popular Hindu temples in Patan where maximum devotees visit every Thursday for the success of their personal as well as professional lives.

Kathmandu, Patan, and Nagrakot, Nepal
We are settled into Nepal now and wow is this place colorful, to say the least. There were feelings of pure anxiety as we entered the capricious Mad Max-esque traffic that was experienced on Ring Road from the airport to our guest house. There are no road lines and even if there were, they would be more of a suggestion as cars, motorcycles, people, dogs, chickens, and cows flow about you like blood cells. Though somehow it all works without a system and comes together like a symphony of horns that is Kathmandu traffic. The city smells like incents, spices, tea, two-cycle motor fuel and mountain air. On the contrary, the people are the epitome of nice, even though they mostly have little to nothing. Walking around the city and within our guest house, each person we have met has been a new connection; Nepal seems to be about personal connection as if you were constantly at a religious retreat. This is the most foreign place we’ve ever been but oddly feels just like home.
As chance would have it on day one we met a fantastic couple from the US, Terry and Kathy. Because our home stay was not able to pick us up from the airport and we did not know anything about our home stay other than the name, our cab driver took us to the only hotel we knew. That hotel was the Kathmandu guesthouse. At the guesthouse they were very kind and put us in touch with the other guest house. During the time we waited for the guest house to pick us up they ushered us over to a free cooking class. This is where we met Kathy and Terry.
Through this meeting they wanted to help us with our volunteer opportunity selection process. After returning from our scooter ride to Patan we were going to have tea with them in what turned out to plan our September.
Before tea we knew very little about them but something seemed to draw us towards them like the moon. Once we sat down they were very passionate about the work being done by CDO Nepal. The day before they had taken pictures so they could show us on this day. Well one thing led to another and they discovered that we were not only taking time to visit Nepal but also to take a year off to travel. Then the flood gates opened. We discovered a lifetime of stories from this fascinating couple who at the age of 40 decided to move, with their three kids, to South America. After this it didn’t slow down. They shared stories of biking through Cambodia and Vietnam, their children’s education in Europe, where we should visit while in South America, to what Terry was going to write a book about during their next four months in Bhutan. Time seemed to disappear during this meeting and when it was over I could not sleep. Once again, my head was buzzing with endorphins and somehow wanted to speed up the trip to experience this all at once but slow it down so that it didn’t end. What a lovely paradox!
We just arrived in Godawari and about to start our volunteering through the month of September with CDO Nepal. This is the part of the trip we were looking forward to and excited to work with the children and local villages. I’m sure they will teach us more than we could ever teach them.

Site visit to the Nag Bahal Hiti in Lalitpur (Old Patan), Nepal
In 2006, the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation awarded a grant to the Patan Tourism Development Organization in support of a project to restore an ancient water system and 17th-century step well in the Old Patan section of Lalitpur in Nepal's Kathmandu valley. Completed in 2008, the restored historic step well provides clean water to more than 250 households in the area. For many of Lalitpur's urban poor, the Nag Bahal Hiti is the main source of water.
