Japan Travel: UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima 02
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park (広島平和記念公園 ), located in downtown Hiroshima, is the site of where the first atomic bomb was dropped at 8:15 am on August 6, 1945. The park is dedicated to the victims of the atomic bomb. The park promotes peace while reiterating the horrors of nuclear war.
Within this spacious park visitors will find many structures reflecting peace. On Peace Boulevard, behind the fountain is the Peace Memorial Museum. Here visitors can witness and learn about Hiroshima’s history and struggle after the attack.
Visitors will see an arched structure, the Memorial Cenotaph, located in the middle of the park. The names of all of the victims of the bomb are written here with the inscription “Let all the souls here rest in peace for we shall not repeat the evil. The structure was constructed on August 6, 1952, with the arch shape reflecting the souls of the victims.
The Peace Flame behind the Cenotaph has been continuously lit since 1964. With a prayer of internal peace, the flame will remain lit until all nuclear weapons have been destroyed and the world is free from the threat of a nuclear war.
Hiroshima Memorial, or commonly known as the Atomic Bomb Dome, lies at the end of park, near the streetcar street (Aioi Street). Known as the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall at the time, this is the only remaining building near the bomb’s epicenter. Though there was some controversy whether the building should be torn down or preserved, it was decided the Atomic Bomb Dome is an important part of local as well as world history. Though the Dome has been reconstructed a few times, the original architecture was always been preserved in remembrance of the victims.
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park is the site of the annual Peace Memorial Ceremony held on August 6. There are peace exhibits throughout the park as well as narratives from the survivors of the atomic bomb, storytelling activities for children. Near the Peace Memorial Museum, visitors can find information about experiences translated in English.
On that day, i the evening, paper lanterns illuminated by candles are floated down the river next to the park. For a nominal fee, visitors can create their own paper lantern, with their own message of peace, to be floated down the river. Once the lantern is created, the volunteers will assemble the lantern and assist visitors in floating the lantern. Please be aware, as many people wish to participate in this tradition, there is usually a long line to float the lantern. Whether involved in the creation or not, all visitors to the park can view the paper lanterns floating down the river, the candlelight illuminating the black water.

Lichterfest & Streetfood in Hiroshima [Japan Reise Vlog Blog Deutsch]
August 1945.

japan – hiroshima | fabs goes asia, part 11
Dear viewer, this is part 11 of the fabs goes asia series.
We are in Hiroshima and after the Whisky Destillery Tour in Kyoto, we are ready to face the historically most tragic stop on our journey. A short history lesson, before we start with the travel diary: // On August 6, 1945, during World War II (1939-45), an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed atomic bomb over the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The explosion wiped out 90 percent of the city and immediately killed 80,000 people; tens of thousands more would later die of radiation exposure. Three days later, a second B-29 dropped another A-bomb on Nagasaki, killing an estimated 40,000 people. //
We started the day with a visit of the beautiful Shukkeien garden and came across a photograph that showed the impact that the bomb had on the garden that was in full bloom and in a perfect state of peace and calm, when we got there – only some gardeners took care of the lake. We then lunched in one of the many Okonomiyaki restaurants. Very delicious and – of course – very popular. After that we walked down the Peace Boulevard towards the Peace Memorial Museum and visited the exhibition, too. The sun was shining the whole day, it was simply hard to imagine, how the lives of so many uninformed and unprepared and – most of all – innocent civilians like us had been wiped out 73 years ago. One exhibition peace especially caught my eye: a wrist watch that stopped instantly, when the bomb exploded only 600 meters above the owner. We spent some time around the ground zero of the boming, which is around the Atomic Bomb Dome and let the atmosphere and weird energy of trauma and rebuilding of a city sink in on us. To finally cheer us up, we decided to grant us an awesome evening at the movies.
Enjoy,
F.
Can’t wait to share the next video with you.
I hope you like this one enough to tune in for the next one.

Hiroshima Dreamination 2014
The Hiroshima Dreamination is a major event enjoyed by people of all ages. Dreamination is a Hiroshima-coined term which was created to capture the dreams of the Hirshima people that come alight during the Christmas and New Year period, and the illumination display held each year from late November to early January.
Peace Boulevard, a major road running east to west through downtown Hiroshima, is illuminated by approximately 1.4 million light bulbs. There are more than 400 monuments lit up along both sides of the road.
These include a 25 meter tall tree, a light garden and the beautifully redesigned castle of peace, which is the main feature of the event.
The monuments are organized into 14 different sections, each of which forms a part of Fairytale Land.
