Pender Island Winestock 2008 . Musicians from such legendary bands as Tragically Hip, Teenage Head, The Grapes of Wrath, The Odds and Doug and the Slugs headlined Morning Bay Vineyards third annual Winestock Music Festival on Pender Island Saturday, August 30, 2008.
Canadas only oceanfront vineyard provides a backdrop to an afternoon and evening of fabulous music, great food, and of course Morning Bays award-winning wines. From noon to dusk the hills will ring with music from some of Canadas most talented artists.
Winestock 2009 is scheduled for September 5, 2009.
Living the Vision: Pender Island Labyrinth
St Peter Anglican Church on Pender Island has partnered with the local community to open a new labyrinth on its property. Far more than a space for spiritual and meditative practice, the labyrinth is a symbol of community and cooperation, breathing new life into the parish and the island.

The 9000sf Pender Residence is designed by AARobins Architects. The home is modularized in several smaller pieces which allow the large scale home to be built in about 18 months. On site work such as excavation, services and foundations can be done in parallel to framing, rough-ins and finishing in the factory. While there is typically some finishing after delivery, the processes drastically cuts down on construction time and costs.

A Classic Orcas Island Yacht Club race around Shaw Island. This year it was on February 13th and we had plenty of wind to push Jah Mon around the course. There were 12 people on board, 3 of which had never been sailing before. We had a wonderful time even though we finished second to last. Hey, it is a big, sweet cruising boat after all. :)
Offshore killer whales in the Northeast Pacific
A short clip by Rob Causton of a rare sighting of offshore orcas near the Juan de Fuca Ridge, about 300km west of Washington State. This sighting by University of Washington REVEL scientists and teachers occurred on Friday, June 25, 2004, at 17:28 PST (00:47:05 GMT -- June 26) at 48o 03' N, 128o 23' W. There were at least 15 individuals (including 2 adult males) traveling northeast. A synopsis by Scott Veirs and Fritz Stahr with still photographs and additional information is available at
