Recife Travel Guide - Brazil Exceptional Atmosphere
Recife Travel Guide - Brazil Exceptional Atmosphere
Recife is the capital of Pernambuco, it is one of the largest important cities on the northeastern coast of Brazil. This lively capital, originally founded by Dutch colonizers, is brimming with a vibrant culture, an interesting old town (which includes the oldest synagogue in the Americas) and some nice beaches and LOTS of sharks
Recife stands out as a major tourist attraction of the Northeast, both for its beaches and for its historic sites, dating back to both the Portuguese and the Dutch colonization of the region. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 mi) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists. The Historic Centre of Olinda, 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) north of the city, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982, and both cities' Brazilian Carnival are among the world's most famous.
Recife is on the Atlantic coast, at the mouth of the Capibaribe, Beberibe and Jordão Rivers, close to the eastern most point of the Americas. The climate is tropical, with two main seasons: dry (September-March) and rainy (April-August). Average annual temperature is 78.8°F, with limited variation. Many tourists stay along the beach in Boa Viagem, 10 km (7 mi) south of the center. The area of Boa Vista just across the Ponte Velha from the train station has a number of budget and mid-range hotels.
Celebrations, holidays and other events are numerous throughout the year. The New Year begins at the beach, Praia de Boa Viagem and in Old Recife. The carnival of Recife and Olinda (which has its historic town centre considered a world heritage site by UNESCO in 1982) begins many weeks ahead in December with innumerable balls and parades.
In the city, the carnival festivities begin in December, as locals begin preparing for the official Carnival, which starts the week before Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday in the Christian liturgical calendar. The pre-Carnival parties usually consist of percussion groups practising in local clubs, city streets and squares, and even Carnival balls. There is a variety of rhythms from different cultures. Carnival officially starts with the Galo da Madrugada, a party in Downtown Recife that attracts many people from several states of Brazil, and other parts of the world.
The Mercado de São José (Market of Saint Joseph) is an old, iron construction with a popular market nearby. In the Fort Cinco Pontes (Fort of Five Points) is the state museum, Museu do Estado de Pernambuco. At the rectangular Pátio de São Pedro are the Cathedral São Pedro (Cathedral of Saint Peter) dating from the year 1782 and restored colonial houses, with numerous restaurants, bistros and bars. In the Bairro Santo Antônio (Saint Anthony neighborhood), at the meeting place of the rivers Capibaribe and Beberibe, is the Praça da República (Square of the Republic) with the Teatro Santa Isabel (Theatre of Saint Isabel), with its neoclassical front, the Law Courts, and the Palácio da Justiça (Palace of Justice). The Casa da Cultura (House of Culture) is an old prison that has been converted into a cultural space and shopping centre. Built between 1835 and 1855, the Malakoff Tower, a monument constructed in Tunisian / Arabic style, used to be an observatory and now is a cultural centre and a place for popular gatherings. It is located at Arsenal da Marinha Square.
Recife has a zoo known as the Dois Irmãos Park, consisting of 387 hectares of Atlantic Forest reserve and 14 hectares of botanical gardens. It contains 800 animals, the Natural Science Museum and various ecological trails. The metropolitan area has also a giant water park 20 km (12 mi) North of Recife, called Veneza water park which has nearly one million square feet of area, ten million litres of water and lots of water slides for the youngsters.
Among Recife's main tourist attractions are:
Churches, historical monuments, public markets including 17th and 18th century buildings from Portuguese and Dutch colonizers;
Francisco Brennand's atelier of ceramic art;
Ricardo Brennand Institute: cultural institute with museum, art gallery and library;
Recife Antigo (Old Recife) buildings;
Boa Viagem beach is the urban area's most important beach, and one of the many beaches in the Pernambuco area;
Casa da Cultura
The Carnival at locations such as downtown and Recife Antigo;
Olinda's historic town centre

Recife - Pernambuco - Brazil
Recife is the four-teen-largest metropolitan area in Brazil with 3,743,854 inhabitants (2012), the largest metropolitan area of the North/Northeast Regions, the 3th-largest metropolitan influence area in Brazil, and the capital and largest city of the state of Pernambuco. The population of the city proper was 1,555,039 in 2012.
Recife is located where the Beberibe River meets the Capibaribe River to flow into the Atlantic Ocean. It is a major port on the Atlantic Ocean. Its name is an allusion to the stone reefs that are present by the city's shores. The many rivers, small islands and over 50 bridges found in Recife city center characterize its geography and gives it the moniker of the Brazilian Venice. As of 2010, it is the capital city with the highest HDI in Northeast Brazil.
The Metropolitan Region of Recife is the main industrial zone of the State of Pernambuco; most relevant products are those derived from cane (sugar and ethanol), ships, oil platforms, electronics, and others; thanks to the fiscal incentives of government, many industrial enterprises were started in the 1970s and 1980s. Recife has a tradition of being the most important commercial center of the North/Northeastern region of Brazil with more than 52,500 business enterprises in Recife itself plus 32,500 in the Metro Area which totals more than 85,000.
A combination of a large supply of labor and significant private investments turned Recife into Brazil's second largest medical center (second only to São Paulo); modern hospitals with state-of-the-art equipment receive patients from several neighboring States.
Like all other cities in the Northeast, Recife is developing its tourist sector. The beach of Porto de Galinhas, 60 kilometers (37 mi) south of the city, has been repeatedly awarded the title of best beach in Brazil and has drawn many tourists, and the Historic Centre of the Town of Olinda, 7 kilometers (4.3 mi) north of the city, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1982.[8] Recife's infrastructure is among the most developed in Brazil for travellers and business people, though there is wide room for improvement.
The city is also an educational center, and home to the Federal University of Pernambuco, the largest university in Pernambuco. Several Brazilian historical figures, such as the poet and abolitionist Castro Alves, moved to Recife to attain their education. Recife and Natal are the only Brazilian cities with direct flights to the islands of Fernando de Noronha, World Heritage Site.
The city is one of the host cities of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, Recife hosted the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and 1950 FIFA World Cup.

1 - Marco Zero
7 - Sinagoga Kahal Zur Israel
9 - Rua do Bom Jesus

Recife Brazil Temple Trip
Recife is a beautiful city in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. This is the first trip I have taken in Brazil without my husband and kids.
Temples in English –
Templo em Portugues-
Mormon Church -
Igreja Mórmon -
There are 6 total temples in Brazil and 4 in the process of being built. The Recife temple is huge and was built to serve the people in Northern Brazil. Every single week large groups of LDS members arrive here to serve, perform ordinances and be taught by God. We traveled in a large, comfortable commercial bus. My stake plans one of these trips about every 3 months. We crossed four states and spent 17 hours on the road. It was totally worth it!!
I left my husband and kids at home to go on a weeklong temple trip. During the week I attended multiple sessions, performed baptisms and sealings. Both in Portuguese and in English. I also had a lot of fun with friends from church. I laughed, relaxed and ate great food. Video 51

Peter M. Bauer Entrevista rede tv globo Horst Köhler Olinda Recife Pernambuco Brasil Interview

“A simplicidadenão e simplis”
Perfil do Artista
Life in Recife
Recife poverty has taken its toll on the South American nation of Brazil which is one of the most populous countries in the world and the 8th largest economy in the world. Ironically, it is also home to almost 44 million people living in Recife poverty. In the capital city of Recife, located in the northeastern province of Pernambuco, majority of its two million populations continue to live in difficult economic situation. To them, their everyday life is a continuing battle for survival. The Recife poverty situation continues to even worsen with the increasing number of families from the rural parts of Brazil who continue to flock to Recife in hope for employment and a better life but only to be disappointed and find themselves in an even worst situation.
The Recife poverty situation continues to become more multifaceted. Urban congestion in the city slums have contributed to the rise of street crimes and violence as well as social problems such as alcoholism, prostitution, marijuana and other forms of drug abuse, HIV-AIDS infections and other sexually transmitted infections, domestic violence, abuse against children and women and high illiteracy. Despite the many efforts of the present Brazilian government to bridge these economic inequalities with social alleviation projects, the high level of Recife poverty remains to be a matter of fact for the majority of the city population who find themselves in despicable situations of poor education, the lack of health and sanitation services, hunger and malnutrition, inadequate housing and other indicators of a poor quality of life.
But the both the Brazilian government and the local authorities of Recife are not taking the problem of poverty sitting down. With its many sustainable development programs, the government continues to resolve these social problems and widen the access of the urban poor to human benefits and services. Employment is also a major concern in many communities in Recife and alleviation programs such as entrepreneurships and education and other social investment projects are being undertaken in order to reduce the number of families living below poverty levels and eradicate social inequalities.
A concrete picture of Recife poverty can be witnessed in the shantytowns or favelas that dot many parts of the city. Over half of Brazil's poor live in these urban slum areas which do not have access to potable water, garbage collection, proper sewerage systems and electricity. Most families living in the favelas have completed less than four years of primary education, worsening further their feeling of powerlessness and hopelessness as well as discrimination and social exclusion in the face of growing Recife poverty.
It have been over one hundred years since poverty was abolished in Brazil, but millions of Brazilians especially in urban areas like Recife continue to live the perilous and destitute lives of their ancestors.
