Pine Mountain Lake 18 hole Championship Golf Course
While we were playing 18 holes at this golf course. It was filled with deer and geese. There was one special deer, an Albino deer, so beautiful. How often do you get to see that on a golf course!

Groveland
Groveland-Big Oak Flat in an unincorporated community and former census-designated place (CDP) in Tuolumne County, California, United States. The population was 3,388 at the 2000 census. This CDP included the communities of Groveland, Big Oak Flat and Pine Mountain Lake (PML).[2]
The CDP was abolished prior to the 2010 census, and Groveland and Pine Mountain Lake were made into CDPs.
The town hosts an annual 49er Festival on the 3rd Saturday of September, hosted by the Yosemite Chamber of Commerce, [1]. Groveland is the location of the Groveland Ranger District office of the Stanislaus National Forest. The Groveland Community Services District provides services, including fire protection, to the community . The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Tuolumne-Calaveras Ranger Unit, Battalion 16, has a Forest Fire Station west of Groveland on State Route 120.Groveland-Big Oak Flat is located at 37°50′45″N 120°12′28″W.[3] Elevation is 867 m (2,846 ft).
Groveland has always been an important stop on the highway to Yosemite but really grew in the early 1900s with the development of the Tuolumne River Hetch-Hetchy water project for the city of San Francisco. Groveland is adjacent to the Stanislaus National Forest and is known for the historic Iron Door Saloon, the gated community of Pine Mountain Lake which boasts its own local newspaper called The Pine Mountain Lake News [2], and the nursery/gallery/general store Mountain Sage.
Groveland was originally a gold rush town and then became a sleepy farming community until the San Francisco Hetch Hetchy water project made it their headquarters and built a railroad yard and hospital for the work crews (both now gone). From 1915 till 1935 Groveland was a boom town supporting seven hotels, 10,000 residents and much activity. When the work crews left the town again became a minor stop on the way to Yosemite until the Boise Cascade company built the Pine Mountain Lake community with a first class golf course, an airport and lake and staked out 5000 lots. This development has since grown from a summer home area to a retirement community to a thriving neighborhood with year round families, boosting the once sleepy Groveland to a travel and vacation destination in its own right.
Groveland is the main town on the Highway 120 route to Yosemite National Park, and boasts numerous lodging and restaurant businesses. The local Community Park features picnic tables, BBQ pits, a skate park and basketball court area, children's playground, bandstand and lawn seating for music and summer Movies in the Park events, public toilets and parking, and the Groveland Museum and Library. There is free Wireless Internet in the park area, provided by a joint effort between Hotel & Cafe Charlotte and the Groveland Community Services District.
In addition to lodging and eateries, local businesses include a Grocery Market, Pharmacy, Medical Clinic, Emergency Services, Fire Department headquarters, and many boutique gift shops. There are places to buy tire chains in the winter, as well as snow shoes and other winter equipment, plus camping and backpacking supplies during the summer months. Local tour guide companies offer custom they drive you trips into Yosemite Valley, and local White Water Rafting companies offer trips on the Tuolumne River nearby.
Tioga High School and Tenaya Elementary School are located in Groveland.
Big Oak Flat
The community of Big Oak Flat was founded by James D. Savage who began mining the area about 1851. In some works, Savage is credited as discovering the Yosemite Valley about 1848. He is also identified as one of the first persons of European ancestry to enter the valley, (March 27, 1851). Others of European ancestry may have seen the valley as early as 1833. From approximately 1916 to 1924, Big Oak Flat served as a staging area and housing location for workers constructing the Hetch Hetchy Railroad which was required to build the O'Shaughnessy Dam on the Tuolumne River in the Hetch Hetchy Valley. Big Oak Flat is now registered as California Historical Landmark #406.[1]
Camp Review: Wilderness Lakes RV Resort, Menifee, California
April 9, 2019 - For the past ten days we have camped at Wilderness Lakes RV Resort in Menifee, California.
This Los Angeles area Thousand Trails campground is huge. With over 80 acres and 523 campsites, we felt like we were in a small city instead of a campground. Of course, with size come noise, and we did find the noise levels bothersome, especially over the weekends with non-stop cars and many neighbors playing their music at above average levels. Things were quieter during the week as almost a third of the camp vacated.
Sites spacing is a bit tight. Since the camp is a first come, first served, even with reservations, I would recommend arrival for mid-week when the camp is less full. A variety of pull through and back in sites, some with shade and others with water access are available.
Amenities were good. There are nine bathhouses throughout the park, each with several toilets and shower stalls. Other than daily cleaning crews, there never seemed to be a wait for its use.
There are three laundry rooms in the park each with 4 washers and dryers and a respectable rate of $2.00 per was load for washer or dryer.
Two canals and a pond offer fishing, which does require a California fishing license. Over the two weeks I do not recall seeing anyone actually catch a fish, but we were told they periodically stocks channel catfish.
Sports enthusiasts will love the range of activities. Shuffleboard, a Fitness Center, Mini Golf, Playground, Volleyball, Basketball, Horseshoes, Tennis Courts, Pickleball and even a Softball field are located on site. A trail around the park is just over a mile in length for walkers and joggers.
The workout room is small, offering a few treadmills and other gym equipment, but is convenient for a quick morning workout. Door codes are granted on a case by case basis to ensure limited access for serious fitness participants.
Two nicely sized swimming pools, one for general use, and a smaller Adult only use and separated on be blocks in the park to allow more solitude or fun as you prefer.
A general Store on site is very well stocked with a vast variety of food and camp supplies. It is open five days a week. I estimate prices were roughly 30% higher than city prices, but, since the closest grocery store is less than two miles away, you have options.
The camp claims that six air television channels are available including the major networks. We were only able to get 4 changes, all of which were shipping channels or Korean television channels. Cable TV is not available.
Los Angeles attractions can be reached in just over an hour drive, or via metro rail which is 20 minutes north. A ninety-minute drive allows access to San Diego attractions as well. The San Bernardino Forest, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, and the Cleveland National Forest are all within an hour of this camp location as well.
Verizon cell signal was good with 4G and LTE coverage at 3 bars. A paid Wi-Fi service in the park offers standard and streaming levels beginning at $4 a day. Free Wi-Fi can be found at the community buildings but was very week and congested.
Regrettably I have to report that much of the camp has a very putrid smell around it. It seems to be a combination of stale water, sewage, and what I believe is a close by farm operation for chicken eggs. We were fortunate that the smell in our campsite was limited, but a short walk will introduce you to a variety of odors throughout the camp. In farness we were hitting high eighty-degree days, so it may have just been heat related.
Overall, we rate the campground as very average, with a need for some updating and odor control to return it to a desirable location to stay. The staff is very nice and helpful, and the cleaning crews are active, but the age is showing in the buildings. The sites are nice but could stand to be spaced further apart. The weekends felt more like a tailgating event over that of a camping experience.
Thanks for watching. We appreciate your feedback and experiences in your camp stays. Please share your comments below, and don’t forget to subscribe to see our latest camp reviews.
