Largest Cashew Tree in the world
Along the Brazilian coast south of Natal is the world's largest cashew tree. It grows outward but not real tall in this case. With all its branches emanating from it's single trunk, snaking along the ground – resembling a huge bush – this 5 acre size tree would probably be even larger if not for the roads hemming it in.
The largest cashew tree in the world is found at the district of Pirangi do Norte, city of Parnamirim, Rio Grande do Norte; The tree covers an area of about 7500 m2, with a perimeter of about 500m. It was planted in 1888, by Luiz Inácio de Oliveira, a fisherman;
CAJUEIRO DE PIRANG IS THE WORLD'S LARGEST CASHEW TREE
The largest cashew tree in the world is found in the district of Pirangi do Norte, the city of Parnamirim, the Rio Grande do Norte; Pirangi is also a popular beach in Natal.
The tree is said to have been planted in 1888. However, based on its growth nature, the tree is estimated to be more than a thousand years old.. The tree produces over 80,000 fruits each year.
The tree grew so much because of the combination of two genetic anomalies.
First, instead of growing upwards, the branches of the tree grow sideways; because of its weight, the branches eventually bend downwards and touch the ground.
Then, the second anomaly takes place: instead of just keep growing resting on the floor, the branches create roots and start to grow up again, as if they were new stems; this causes the impression that there are several trees.
There are two cashew trees in the park; one, cashew tree with the genetic alteration, covers 95% of the park; another one, planted by the same man a few years earlier, had a normal course.

O cajueiro de Pirangi é uma árvore gigante localizada na praia de Pirangi do Norte no município de Parnamirim, a doze quilômetros ao sul de Natal, capital do estado brasileiro do Rio Grande do Norte.
A árvore cobre uma área de aproximadamente 8 500 m², com um perímetro de aproximadamente 500 m e produz cerca de 70 a 80 mil cajus na safra, o equivalente a 2,5 toneladas. E seu tamanho é o equivalente a 70 cajueiros. O cajueiro teria sido plantado em 1888 por um pescador chamado Luís Inácio de Oliveira; o pescador morreu, com 93 anos de idade, sob as sombras do cajueiro.
