Pisew-Kwasitchewan Falls
We headed up to Pisew Provincial Park near Thompson, Manitoba in August 2018 to check out Manitoba's two largest waterfalls, Pisew Falls and Kwasitchewan Falls. Both the trip up there and the two days of hiking were pretty exciting.

Canoe trip from Wabowden, Manitoba to Paint Lake marina on the Grass River. This Canadian wilderness route allows closeup views of Manitoba's two highest waterfalls, Pisew Falls and Kwasitchewan Falls. It also flows into numerous other rapids and waterways such as the spectacular Sasagiu Rapids, Setting Lake, and beautiful Paint Lake. Also fishing for pickerel, viewing family of otters swimming.

Pisew Falls
Pisew Falls Provincial Park in Manitoba is located at the approximate midpoint between the small community of Wabowden and the much larger industrial and service centre of Thompson.

Located approximately 700 km north of Winnipeg, Manitoba, 500 m from Highway 6, Pisew Falls is near Kwasitchewan Falls, Manitoba's highest waterfall which has a naturally occurring year-round flow.
The name, Pisew, is translated from the local Cree language meaning Lynx. It was so named because the sound of the hissing water bears a resemblance to the sound of this wild northern feline.

Its creation is due to the intensive geological activity in the area hundreds of thousands of years ago, when violent tectonic effects caused the creation of first a fault, and then an upheaval of the southern side of the fault-line.
This has left a rift in the landscape with a waterfall riotously cascading over and through it.

Is Whiteshell Park the Place for A Mine?
Manitoba’s cherished provincial parks are at risk of getting bulldozed for mineral exploration this winter. Whiteshell Provincial Park is facing the threat of bulldozed forests, just like Nopiming Provincial Park suffered destruction last winter.
Parks are supposed to protect nature, animals, and give us a place for peace. but the Manitoba government policy has changed, and a massive new mineral rush is underway in provincial parks.
We need industrial activity out of our parks!

Solo Canoe Trip, Grass River, Day 3
Day 3 finds me up early and paddling through wind and rain, under an old rail bridge and looking for a spot to rest after the wind forces me off the water. Cold and damp I check the map to find I am where I should be, actually.
Drive-to Walleye Fishing at Paint Lake Lodge - Manitoba Hot Bite
On this trip we visited Paint Lake Lodge in the Northern Region of Manitoba. Located in Paint Lake Provincial Park, this 5 mile wide and 25 mile long lake is a classic Canadian Shield paradise complete with endless islands, bays, reefs, and narrows that would pique the interest of any walleye angler.
We hooked into hundreds of walleye over two days of easy fishing. It didn't matter if we fished just in front of the lodge or way out to the farthest remote reaches of the lake, there were plenty of walleyes ready and willing to smack our lures.
