Chefchaouen is famous for its striking, blue buildings of the old town. Leather shops and bakeries line its steep cobbled lanes. In the shady main square of Place Outa el Hammam is the red-walled Kasbah, a 15th-century fortress and dungeon, and Chefchouen Ethnographic Museum.
Alkasbah chaouen القصبة شفشاون
Life of Chefchaouen - Morocco
#morocco #chefchaouen #andy1803
Chefchaouen, north of Morocco, at the slopes of Rif Mountains, all over the world famous for its blue Medina, the old fortified part of the town characterized for brilliant blue painted roads and houses.
Muslims and Jews escaped from Andalusia (Spain) were the co-founders of the town in 1471. Once forbidden to strangers, Chefchaouen today is one of the main attractions in Morocco. Maybe a little bit far from principal routes, anyway it is a “must” if you want to plan a complete tour of this wonderful country. My suggestion is to stay at least on night to taste daily life and to appreciate evening quiet.
Far from crowds of imperial cities, a full immersion in the blue Medina is an experience you’ll never forget. It is difficult to describe all the vibes you may feel walking up and down along its alleys, meeting friendly but reserved people or exploring local street markets and shops. Nobody knows exactly why inhabitants chose blue colour to paint their homes. Someone says it was a Jew tradition, others say it is a protection from mosquitoes. Surely this is a unique place, something you won’t find elsewhere in Morocco.
Starting from Outa-el-Hammam square with the old Kasbah and the Grande Mosque Tarik-Ben-Ziad, the visit continues inside the labyrinth of the historical centre till the upper part of the town. It is nice to take a breath looking the waterfalls just out of the fortified walls and finish the tour on the panoramic hill after a ten minutes hike to admire the wonder of Chefchaouen and the entire valley in front of you.
And don’t forget doors, undoubtedly one of the most original feature of the town, probably an hidden passion of its people. You will find several of them, perfect subjects for photos or drawings. Each one, with its blue wood and particular decoration, is a sort of status symbol of the owner.
This short film has been filmed at the end of winter 2018. It was a rainy fresh day, maybe not ideal for travelling but excellent for footage with diffused light, brilliant colours and good contrast. Tropicalized gears are mandatory with this weather conditions to avoid damages. Mostly, I used my Olympus OM-D EM5 MKII mirrorless camera but some “street” footage are obtained with Eken H8R 8a chinese action cam) coupled with Zhiyun Evolution gimbal.
All photos have been shot by Francesca Sparatore with a Nikon D3100 reflex.

Ishaq Mustaqim is an ex criminal who converted to Islam in 2010. His mother is Swiss and his father is Haitian. He grew up in Canada where, at a very young age, got a big interest in the criminal lifestyle. He used all of his knowledge and skills which led him to live like a millionaire. But life isn’t great when you live like an outlaw. He found himself guilty of many crimes and was taken to prison. In the darkest place of earth, he met the greatest person who led him to Islam. Ishaq Mustaqim was then born, and his life totally changed, for the better. He is now involved in the Dawah community of his country and helped many young Muslims and non-Muslims to avoid the temptations of the unlawful and excessive life.

Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Morocco, North Africa
1.Marrakesh
Marrakesh, a former imperial city in western Morocco, is a major economic center and home to mosques, palaces and gardens. The medina is a densely packed, walled medieval city dating to the Berber Empire, with mazelike alleys where thriving souks (marketplaces) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry. A symbol of the city, and visible for miles, is the Moorish minaret of 12th-century Koutoubia Mosque.
2.Fes
Fes is a northeastern Moroccan city often referred to as the country’s cultural capital. It’s primarily known for its Fes El Bali walled medina, with medieval Marinid architecture, vibrant souks and old-world atmosphere. The medina is home to religious schools such as the 14th-century Bou Inania and Al Attarine, both decorated with elaborate cedar carvings and ornate tile work.
3.Casablanca
Casablanca is a port city and commercial hub in western Morocco, fronting the Atlantic Ocean. The city's French colonial legacy is seen in its downtown Mauresque architecture, a blend of Moorish style and European art deco. Standing partly over the water, the enormous Hassan II Mosque, completed in 1993, has a 210m minaret topped with lasers directed toward Mecca.
4.Tangier
Tangier, a Moroccan port on the Strait of Gibraltar, has been a strategic gateway between Africa and Europe since Phoenician times. Its whitewashed hillside medina is home to the Dar el Makhzen, a palace of the sultans that's now a museum of Moroccan artifacts. The American Legation Museum, also in the medina, documents early diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Morocco in an 1821 Moorish-style former consulate.
5.Rabat
Rabat, Morocco's capital, rests along the shores of the Bouregreg River and the Atlantic Ocean. It's known for landmarks that speak to its Islamic and French-colonial heritage, including the Kasbah of the Udayas. This Berber-era royal fort is surrounded by formal French-designed gardens and overlooks the ocean. The city's iconic Hassan Tower, a 12th-century minaret, soars above the ruins of a mosque.
6.Agadir
Agadir, a city along Morocco’s southern Atlantic coast, in the foothills of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, is the capital of Agadir-Ida Ou Tanane province. A resort destination, it's known for its golf courses, wide crescent beach and seaside promenade lined with cafes, restaurants and bars. Agadir's hilltop kasbah was destroyed in a 1960 earthquake, but its original old wall remains standing.
7.Merzouga
Merzouga is a small Moroccan town in the Sahara Desert, near the Algerian border. It’s known as a gateway to Erg Chebbi, a huge expanse of sand dunes north of town. West of Merzouga, Dayet Srji is a seasonal salt lake that’s often dry in summer. When full, it attracts a wide range of migratory and desert birds, including desert warblers, Egyptian nightjars and, occasionally, flamingos.
8.Essaouira
Essaouira is a port city and resort on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. Its medina (old town) is protected by 18th-century seafront ramparts called the Skala de la Kasbah, which were designed by European engineers. Old brass cannons line the walls, and there are ocean views. Strong Alizée trade winds make the city’s crescent beach popular for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.
9.Zagora
Zagora is a town in the Draa River valley in the Drâa-Tafilalet region of southeastern Morocco. It is flanked by the mountain Zagora from which the town got its name.
