TTR190 Railways of Africa part 1
TTR190 Railways of Africa part 1
Product page
The Republic of South Africa lies at the tip of the African continent with a population of about 53 million. South Africa has the longest rail network on the African continent at circa 20,000km. While only 25% is electrified, 3kv, 25kv and 50kv systems are used, the electrified network carries 80% of all traffic passenger or freight. The InterCity network (Shosholoza Meyl) has considerably reduced in scope because of long distances and airline competition. Long distance trains that survive link Johannesburg and Pretoria with the coastal cities: Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town just three or four times a week. On some routes these services are supplemented with luxury trains – some of these also carry cars. Passenger traffic remains vital to the life of the big cities. Sizable local commuter rail systems are to be found, for instance, around Johannesburg & Pretoria. Many thousands of workers pour into the cities from townships such as Soweto. There is one new high capacity line that links Johannesburg with Pretoria and the International Airport. The Gautrain is standard gauge. South African Railways, TRANSNET, is predominantly a freight railway. Despite using a narrow (Cape) gauge it is a world class heavy haul railway with modern traction hauling 20,000 ton trains. Container trains run from the ports to the inland cities in SA and Botswana. Also on the move are huge quantities of agricultural products, cement, timber and chemicals. Minerals: gold sand, platinum ore, nickel and so on move over both the state network and private railroads. In part two we look at Platinum mining, transit traffic to Botswana via Mafeking and the Coal Link high-capacity railway to Richards Bay. We visit: Anglo Platinum, (diesel operation) Impala Platinum, (electric operation) and AR&TS (diesel locomotive rebuild and maintenance.) Narrated RT 60 mins Published April 2014. ©FHP 2014
The Andros DELUXE BOUTIQUE HOTEL, Cape Town SOUTH AFRICA
Set against the backdrop of Table Mountain in 5000m² of simply magnificent park-like gardens, the 5 star graded Andros Deluxe Boutique Hotel is a truly gracious Cape Colonial homestead, originally built in 1908 and designed by Sir Herbert Baker.
Ideally located in Claremont, one of Cape Town's beautiful Southern Suburbs, the property is quite literally a 5 minute drive from the world renowned Kirstenbosch gardens and iconic Newlands Rugby and Cricket Stadiums. Also a similarly short distance away are the many financial sector corporate offices and Cavendish Square with its fantastic selection of upmarket Boutiques, Restaurants and shops.
Guests to the Andros Deluxe Boutique Hotel would be forgiven for wanting to keep this 5 star Cape Colonial homestead a secret. It’s not often that pure luxury and sincere service come together to welcome you to a place that truly feels like a home away from home.
There’s something to be said for stately English manor house living. From elegantly furnished, generously proportioned rooms, to tranquil leafy gardens; everything about the Andros Deluxe Boutique Hotel is an exercise in effortless opulence.
Glorious mountain views call for your attention on arrival, while thoughtful touches abound at every turn.
Don’t be surprised if your morning coffee arrives at your table before placing your order, or if that extra blanket you requested the last time you stayed is back on your bed without a word – the staff here are well known for going out of their way to make you feel completely at ease, all with a level of personalisation that you simply won’t find at larger establishments.
Relaxation is always the order of the day, whether at the poolside, in the sun room with a good book, or in the Champagne Bar with a glass of bubbly. Once suitably unwound, a walk in Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, or a wine farm tour of the Constantia Valley is just a few minutes away. No matter where your day takes you, perhaps a little further afield to Table Mountain, the V&A Waterfront or one of Cape Town’s many breathtaking beaches, guests are always sure to return for a pampering treatment at health and beauty salon, Anuyu Body & Skin, or a personal training workout. Come dinnertime, ethically sourced organic ingredients shine in a modern mix of local and international dishes and are impeccably paired with an extensive selection of wines at Platinum Award winning DINE restaurant.

Cape Town Wine Region VLOG | TravelStyleFood VLOG 16
Cape Town - Wine Country!
There are so many incredible wine producers in Cape Town in the Franschoek and Stellenbosch area. You’ll be driving along the open road and come across an arch and a sign, and a long driveway up passing many vines. Boom! You've found a vineyard.
In this video are just five, out of so so many, Waterford is my absolute favourite and some we visited last year aren’t featured but I’ll list them below - the choices are endless.
Some of these visits are a week or two apart, not all in one day!
Oh, and it’s interesting, as someone who usually favours red wine (I find whites in Spain and Ireland far too acidic) I pick whites over reds (almost) every time when I’m in South Africa.
I hope you enjoy! x

Our LR Elite Trip to South Africa 2019 | VLOG Cape Town & Sabi-Sabi (Kruger National Park)
South Africa 2019 ????????
Φτάνοντας σε ένα από τα πιο γνωστά και πολυτελή καταλύματα του κόσμου, (βραβευμένο από το National Geographic ως «Unique Lodges of the World») το Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve, απολαύσαμε την περιπέτεια με οδηγό την Κέρι και ιχνηλάτη τον Κάντι και καταφέραμε να δούμε σε απόσταση αναπνοής, άγρια ζώα όπως λιοντάρια, ελέφαντες, καμηλοπαρδάλεις, ιπποπόταμους, ύαινες και ζέβρες τα οποία για να τα εντοπίσουμε χρειάστηκε να κάνουμε πολλά σαφάρι νωρίς το πρωί και αργά το σούρουπο!

How to easily install your dash cam visit:
traficam cape town was created on 23 August 2017. The videos uploaded was not intentionally recorded or edited to highlight any good or bad drivers on our roads, but just an observation of my driving from point a-z (atoz). Driver education is the key motivation as to why I installed a dashcam in my vehicle. Lets face it, as drivers we do sometimes make mistakes on the road without even realising it. When we do look back we can educate ourselves and learn from our mistakes. The camera I'm using is the StealthDashCam™ from Techmard.
