Tour & Reviews of Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort & Spa. Cancun, Mexico 2019
We stayed at this resort for a week at the end of January. From the time we stepped out of our shuttle from the airport, the staff at Dreams went above and beyond to make sure that we had an amazing vacation. We had a deluxe pool view room on the 5th floor with a view of the adult pool and dolphin area. The floor was quiet and we enjoyed our balcony and the amenities in the room.
Beach- small beach area and it is in a Cove. The bonus to being in a cove is that they are able to put out nets to catch the seaweed. Possibly because we traveled in January, but there was no sea weed on our beach all week. The beaches closer to Cancun are always covered in sea weed and the staff work tirelessly raking it up every day. Perfect beach for toddlers as nice and calm. Lots of loungers each day, was never an issue.
Restaurants- The restaurants were great. There was a great variety on each menu. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, and I enjoyed a cappuccino each morning while watching the sun rise by the natural pool. El Patio was delicious, and the Mayan coffee is a must!
There are 5 restaurants- Italian, Mexican, sushi bar, oceana and seaside grill. Please note that every restaurant is not open every night. No reservations are required for dinner and the restaurants are open from 6-11pm each night.Coco café- love it. one of my favorite parts of vacation and wont go to a resort that doesn't have the coffee shop. Enjoyed vanilla lattes and caramel Frappuccino's every day and my daughter loved the chocolate milk shakes.
Lunch- we only had lunch there once but it was great. Service was a bit slow. Buffet is also open at lunch and barefoot grill by the pool area does hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza. This resort doesn't have pool side soft served ice cream however you can get vanilla ice cream in the buffet area.
Dinner- we did the buffet once for dinner. Buffet for dinner is not my favourite, but there were sufficient options that everyone got something they liked.
El Patio- Mexican- Tacos, enchiladas, empanadas, etc. Really good! They have a kids menu as well with the standard burgers, hot dogs, fish fingers, chicken nuggets, etc.
Portofina- Italian- our full group ate here on two nights. Delicious! Has full kids menu as well.
Sushi bar- awesome ocean view, service was quite slow and we left hungry. Everything we ate was good, but small serving sizes, so we should have ordered more. I would recommend as an adult only supper as not much of a menu for kids.
Oceana- adults only seafood restaurant. Didn't get to eat here as just didn't work out with the restaurant schedule. This restaurant is on the adults only side of the resort however twice during our week it offered international night where everyone can go there for buffet and they have a show during dinner. We watched the fire show and it was great.
Sea side grill- didn't get to eat here for dinner as just reopened on our last day.
Bars- great drinks options and great service. They have the high end brands- if there is a specific kind you want, just ask. My favourite bar was the swing bar.Right on the ocean, so has incredible views. Entertainment staff was great, especially Ivan and Giovanni! We also enjoyed the shows a few nights - magician/comedian and fire show. The open market on the beach a few nights was nice. We played mini golf, ping pong, and basketball, too.
Pools- pool on adult side and pool on family side. Both small pools, both have swim up bars. There were not a lot of guests for the majority of the week that we were there, so they were not heating the pool. I'm Canadian, so feel I have quite a tolerance to cold, but the pools were freezing!
Room service- really good! Lots to choose from, available 24 hours a day and generally really quick. Usually received within 20 minutes of ordering.
Dolphinarium- Was awesome! Make sure to book inside the resort with the excursion reps and not at the actual dolphinarium- much better prices!
We loved the smallness of the resort, and loved every bit of our stay. Having the dolphinarium at the resort was so fun and you can play ball with the dolphins if you happen to walk around at the right time. We also liked walking around the gated community of Puerto Aventuras, shopping and checking out the marina.
Wifi- resort has great wife. used it all week with no issues at all.
Transfers- a bit further from cancun that I typically prefer. Took 1.5 hours to get there from the airport
Overall, we had a great vacation! Dreams Puerto Aventuras was absolutely perfect. Good food, good drinks, and amazing staff. The resort is older but I thought it was all very well kept, and would come again in a heartbeat!
Please don't forget to share your experience with me!!

One of things to do in Playa del Carmen, is to leave. What I mean is check out the surrounding areas! Look at a map of Riviera Maya, you will see Puerto Aventuras, just 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen.
Puerto Aventuras has a few All-Inclusive hotels, condo rentals, vacation homes, and a central water way that goes through the town.
My buddy Jack and I stopped in for the day, walked around, and had a nice little encounter with a Sting Ray!
Got the footage on the GoPro. Exciting Stuff!

Seaweed Problem at Dreams Puerto Aventuras Resort & Spa Beach. Cancun, Mexico 2019
This hotel sits on a cove which is just a basket collecting all the seaweed. I mean it was more than a football field on seaweed. You couldn't sit near the beach due to the smell of fermenting seaweed. Can't put your feet in the water since there was seaweed basically 100 yards out. I understand they can't control mother nature but they worked hard to keep the beach clear of it
Only down side was the enormous amount of seaweed on the beach and in the water. We couldnt swim in the bay for the entire trip. This is also not a very walkable section of beach. Its like a dead end on both sides, so no long morning beach walks here. If you want one of those or a very beautiful section of beach, walk through the marina, past the manatees, sea lions, dolphins, to get to the other side of the marina and walk to the end where you will find a green gate. Go through the gate and then go to the right and you will find a gorgeous, shallow, turquoise blue, calm, velvety sand beach. Perfect for those long walks!

PLAYA DEL CARMEN | MEXICO CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE 2017 (PUERTO AVENTURAS, TULUM, 5TH AVE + MORE)
Fellow adventurer, welcome! I just finished up my edit of the two weeks I spent exploring in Playa del Carmen this past September. What an epic trip! What do you think of the edit?
It was my first extended solo trip. Couchsurfed near Puerto Aventuras the first week, and stayed at The City Condos near 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen the second week. It pushed me out of my comfort zone a lot, but I was super fortunate to have a few friends of friends in the area, and friends of my host to adventure with. Lots of new experiences, thanks to some awesome new friends!
One thing that really surprised me that I loved was visiting the Cenote Azul (Blue Cenote) just south of Puerto Aventuras. It's like a naturally formed sinkhole, with a mix of sea and fresh water in it. Incredibly beautiful, and there was a nice cliff to jump off of, as you can see in the video. Lots of fish and refreshing water.
One thing that I regretted not doing is putting myself out there a little more! There were a few too many nights that I spent in, when I could have been out adventuring, trying something new, or pushing myself to take a taxi somewhere different. I'll learn from this.
If you have any questions about the trip, how to pack, prepare, where to stay, things to do, places to see, etc, just drop a comment and I'll respond back as soon as I can. Also, if you enjoyed the video, please give it a thumbs up and leave a comment telling me what you think. I'm working hard to improve on my shooting and editing. Anyway, thanks for watching and subscribe!

Surfing Puerto Aventuras, Riviera Maya 2017
Old video I made in 2017 that was never posted anywhere, so here it is
Puerto Aventuras Marina
Puerto Aventuras is a private, gated community on the Mexican Caribbean coast. It's approximately fifteen minute's drive from Playa del Carmen and about one and a half hours by car from Cancun's hotel zone.
It's a largely residential area, but with three large hotels; Catalonia, Dreams and Omni, there is also a list of activities to do for tourists; golf, tennis, bars, restaurants and some shops give the little place a small resort feel.
Puerto Aventuras also has it's own beach that is kept calm and shallow thanks to the reef breaks they have out to see.

Xpu Ha Beach - Beach XpuHa - Riviera Maya, Mexico
After messing about on Google Maps, I found some gorgeous turquoise blue water near XpuHa Beach just past Puerto Aventuras on the Riviera Maya in Mexico. I tracked back and it looked the best way to enter was simply getting out at XpuHa and walking north along the Caribbean until the rocks came out. For those who dont know, Xpu Ha is a very popular beach, and as you will see, for good reason. There are some restaurants, bars, seating and sun beds at XpuHa but can be quite busy at times. So after arriving, we decided to go north from Xpu Ha towards the rocks. As you will see, we arrived to see a path, which we tried to take but were stopped by a security guard who said we couldnt go through that way. After speaking with him he said that we could go the other way. He then watched us walk almost all the way to the cenote we were after, before whistling and coming to tell us that we in fact cant go that way either. No problem, we didnt to return back towards Xpu Ha, when his friend comes and as we pass him, he decides to smack me in the back with his stick! After a little altercation with the loco locals, cooler heads ... mine ... prevailed. Ended up returning to XpuHa and enjoying the beach and a beer on the swings. However, it just goes to show that sometimes uneducated people just dont react the same way as normal people. Like I say in the video, when someone picks up a rock and holds it over your head, you cant really level with them.
Alls well that ends well I suppose.
