Polar Bear Habitat - Year in Review 2018/19
A lot has happened at the Polar Bear Habitat in the past year. From new bears and new people to new programming and new facilities, this year has been an incredible experience.
We are proud to continue to provide outstanding care to polar bears who would not survive in the wild and to provide research opportunities to so many organizations studying the effects of climate change on arctic sea ice and polar bears.

Inukshuk - King of His Play Castle
It's always amazing to see what tickles our polar bears' fancy ... and this part of a play castle with a convenient polar bear sized handle seems to do the trick for Inukshuk this morning in the big pool. He had an epic play period ... so much so it was difficult to pick which videos to load! Video taken June 26, 2017 at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Northern Ontario.
Ganuk's Lunch in the Pool
It's not often I go up to the private observation deck to take shots ... but it was such a beautiful day - thought it was worth the climb up our submarine staircase. This is Ganuk with a little moose treat (very Canadian eh?) Video taken August 23, 2015, at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Northern Ontario, Canada.

InukshukBarrel
Polar bears have an unbelievable sense of smell ... and they're also extremely curious and determined. Inukshuk was going to get that barrel - one way or another and see what goodies our Bear Keepers had put inside. We knew you could do it Nuki! Inukshuk is now almost 12 years old and weighs over 1,000 lbs. This video was taken at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Northeastern Ontario, Canada. Inukshuk also spends time at the Toronto Zoo with his girlfriends, Aurora and Nakita.

Ganuk loves his big ball - especially if it's in the pool. Not only does he toss it around - he loves trying to sink it - and sometimes he just wants to use it as a nice big life jacket. Ganuk is 4 years old and weighs just over 800 lbs. He's a resident of the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Cochrane, Ontario - a meer 8 hr drive North of Toronto.

Henry Knows How to Work It!
Who says polar bears don't use tools? This Mastercraft tool case was just the toy for Henry the Polar Bear at the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat in Northeastern Ontario, Canada - both the world's largest facility for polar bears, and the only one dedicated to the species.
But Henry couldn't have all the fun! Ganuk, his 7 year-old friend, couldn't resist, and had to join in.
We're not sure what they plan on building, but you can tune in to our live cams at polarbearhabitat.ca/watch-live and keep tabs on the antics of Henry, Ganuk and Inukshuk.
