Manaus is a Brazilian city of about 2.5 million, located on the Rio Negro a few miles before it meets the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon River properly. The two rivers flow side by side for many miles, different in color, mixing in eddies: the Meeting of the Waters. Legend has it that they never mix. Manaus is no architectural gem, but does have some genuinely rewarding sights, including a leafy zoo and an interesting beach-and-museum combo. It’s a place to stock up on anything you forgot to pack, make reservations and begin your journey out into the jungle, or refill your tank with beer and internet after a week in the forest.
The wealth of the primeval forest becomes visible first of all in the architecture of the city. The city was rich and the rubber barons afforded the biggest luxury from Europe, a copy of the Grand Opera de Paris - the Teatro Amazonas. Other monuments from this epoch are the Mercado Municipal, a copy of the famous market halls Les Halles in Paris, and the arts center Palacio Rio Negro, located among fascinating Portuguese facades. Today Manaus is a foreign trade zone. Foreign enterprises don't pay import duties, what guarantees a certain income for the city and the region. Electronics, wood industry and oil refineries have settled in the outskirts in industrial areas. The harbor is the most important trading center in the city with regional, national and international products.
The city is pleasant and friendly, although quite hot, and is still a major port, and a good starting point for river tours. The Rio Negro (northern) branch of the Amazon is the color of strong tea, peaty brown and its comparative acidity means few mosquitoes. At Manaus the Amazon rises and falls almost twenty meters between seasons. In May and June it's at its peak, full and very wide, spreading way out into the trees. In November and December it's low; still massive but with sandbars.
There are many local buses within the city. At bus stops there are only numbers, but on the front of the buses themselves the destinations are listed. Fare is R$3, either pay before entering the station (if boarding at a station), or onboard. There are a number of companies operating jungle adventure trips from Manaus, but only a few seem to be more established and reputable. First you need to check if the Tour Operator has a valid Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Board) registry. Then you make up your mind what you really want. You need to travel at least 100km from Manaus to see virgin rain forest and the wild life you are looking for.
Because of Manaus' location next to the Amazon rainforest, it attracts a substantial number of Brazilian and foreign tourists, who come to see wildlife on land and in the rivers. It is also home to one of the most endangered primates in Brazil, the pied tamarin.
Tour boats leave Manaus to see the Meeting of the Waters, where the black waters of the Negro River meet the brown waters of the Solimoes River, flowing side by side without mixing for about 9 km (6 mi). Visitors can also explore river banks and igarapes, swim and canoe in placid lakes, simply walk in the lush forest or stay at hotels in the jungle.
Manaus has also many large parks with native forest preservation areas, such as the Bosque da Ciência and Parque do Mindú. The largest urban forest in the world is located within the Federal University of Amazonas, which was founded on January 17, 1909 and is the oldest federal university in Brazil.
Manaus also has several Malls such as Manauara Shopping, Amazonas Shopping Center, Millennium Shopping, Shopping Ponta Negra, Studio 5 Festival Mall, Shopping Cidade Nova, Manaus Plaza Shopping, Shopping Sao José and other small Shopping Areas. Most of these malls include large food courts and movie theaters.

Encontro das Aguas
The Meeting of Waters (Portuguese: Encontro das Águas) is the confluence between the Rio Negro, a river with dark-red water, and the sandy-colored Amazon River or Rio Solimões, as is known the upper section of the Amazon in Brazil. For 6 km the rivers' waters run side by side without mixing. Here's the view from a pontoon plane.

Brazil
Brazil has a lot of attractions that you cannot ignore. Beautiful natural features, great cities and a golden coast are just some of the few things that define this beautiful country. Just to make sure you do not get lost in all the fun and beauty, you should have the five basic facts about Brazil in mind.
5 Facts You Might Not Know
1
The Amazon Rainforest'Considered one of the biggest rain forests in the world, the Amazon rainforest plays home to many animal and plant species. Some few native Americans also consider the forest their home and still live according to their ancient life ways in the forest.
2
The amazing Pantanal'This is a huge swamp in located in the Midwest of Brazil. Any traveler who has visited the place will testify of the beauty of the natural vegetation and wild animals that live in and around the swamp. The Pantanal covers a large area and is frequent by many travelers who love canoeing and water sports.
3
Rio de Janeiro'This is the best place to start any Brazil tour. Considered one of the world's mega cities, Rio is home to inhabitants from different backgrounds and ways of life. On one side of the city, you will easily find many famous beaches while on the other side you will find a steep mountain range. The city also has many museums and parks.
4
The Iguaca Falls'This is more than just a waterfall; it is a waterfall complex. Iguaca Falls has layers of waterfalls that descend upon each other in different directions. The waterfalls produce a roaring sound as they hit the hard jungle canopy surface below. This is one of the most visited sites in South America and one of the best tourist attraction sites in Brazil.
5
The golden coast'The coast hosts dozen of beautiful beaches. The coast was the first part of Brazil to be colonized by the Portuguese and the structures and the culture within the place still show evidence to this. The people around the coast are friendly and you can be sure of having an unforgettable time visiting.
The capital of Brazil is Brasília. The currency of Brazil is the Brazilian Real(BRL) Flag of Brazil

Reinauguração do Parque Madeira-Mamoré 2010 【S.RIO】
English (Google translation):
On Sunday afternoon the day December 5, 2010 part of the collection of the Madeira-Mamore Railway was handed over to the population portovelhense by the Municipality of Porto Velho. This is the Madeira-Mamore square, which after a long period of retirement is finally open to visitors, without even being done with everything.
According to a large plate (near the square), the company would still be hired by the deadline, as this sign says that the date of completion was scheduled for February 2011 ... but it seems as if it were a Christmas present, the city government decided to re-inaugurate before.
The square has a new look, more comfortable and inviting with a large lawn, trees and anything without those kiosks, and vehicular and railway station (where they sell crafts) have been fully renovated, among many other attractions such as the largest of them (exempting any human endeavor), the Madeira River.
With the recovery of the square of the Madeira-Mamore Museum, which runs inside one of the sheds recovered, also returned to work, receiving many visitors this Sunday, and more, the boat trips are slowly returning to normal, with the route that from the square to the works of St. Anthony of HPU.
The sad reality is that all this beauty is counted with DAYS ... yes, because in short order vandals will start trashing this space recently reopened in order that the municipality of Porto Velho has a municipal guard which is intended to curb such practice.
PS: the worst is knowing that most of the writers and destroyers of public spaces in downtown Porto Velho are STUDENTS!

A walk around my neighborhood in Brazil
A video of the area in which I currently live (since I was carrying groceries, I had to use youtube's video stabilization for this one, so let me just tell you that you haven't eaten something questionable, lol. The stabilization made kind of a weird, trippy effect, lol) I shot this one while walking back from a grocery store located very close to my apartment. I thought I'd give everyone a look at what houses in this area are like, as well as some shops, bars, etc.
Top 10 places to visit in Brazil | Best places in brazil
Top 10 places to visit in Brazil | Best places in Brazil.
Brazil is an exciting world travel destination. As South America’s largest country, Brazil covers a majority of the continent’s northeastern region and borders all of its countries except for Chile and Ecuador.
Rio de Janeiro Located in southeastern Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is the most visited city of South America due to its famous mountains, landmarks, beaches and Carnival festival. Rio de Janeiro is situated on one of the world’s largest harbors surrounded by natural attractions that include the Sugarloaf and Corcovado mountains and famous beaches like Copacabana and Ipanema.
Foz do Iguaçu is one of the world’s most stunning natural wonders, Iguazu Falls is a series of magnificent waterfalls located on the Iguazu River, straddling the border between Brazil and Argentina. The falls in and of themselves are a breathtaking spectacle, but their beauty is all the more enhanced by the surrounding lush forest teeming in exotic wildlife. The gateway to the falls on the Brazilian side is Foz do Iguaçu, a big and reasonably safe city by Brazilian standards.
Salvador is a historic Old City, beautiful beaches, lively culture and one of the world’s biggest Carnival celebrations all fashion Salvador into one of the best places to visit in Brazil. One of the oldest cities in the Americas, Salvador is Brazil’s third largest city and the capital of the Bahia state. Situated on the coast of the Bay of All Saints, Salvador offers fantastic beaches that are ideal for sunbathing, swimming and surfing. Some of the most popular include Porto de Barra, Flamengo and Stella Maris.
Manaus is the capital of the Amazonas state in northwestern Brazil, Manaus is an important tourist destination because it serves as a gateway to the Amazon rainforest. As a result of the region’s flourishing rubber industry during the early 20th century, Manaus today is one of Brazil’s largest cities, featuring distinguished landmarks like the Amazonas Opera House, and the Rio Negro Palace.
Olinda is one of Brazil’s best-preserved colonial cities, Olinda is located on Atlantic Coast in the northeastern state of Pernambuco. Perched on a picturesque hilltop surrounded by trees, Olinda’s historic downtown is a treasure trove of colonial churches, colorful old houses, restaurants, museums and numerous artisan studios. Every year, Olinda hosts its lively Carnival celebration that differs somewhat from those of Rio de Janeiro and Salvador in that Olinda’s festival is best attended at daytime and features the music, dances and traditions of African culture.
Recife's nicknamed the “Venice of Brazil” because of its numerous waterways and bridges, Recife is the capital of the Pernambuco state and one of the largest and most important cities on Brazil’s northeastern coast. Situated amid tropical forests with many islands and rivers, Recife is a popular tourist destination because of its historic old town, beaches and vibrant culture. Recife was a Dutch colony during the 17th century, and nowhere is this more evident than the historic district where many colonial buildings still remain.
Parati: A paradise of tropical forests, waterfalls, emerald sea and coastal mountains, Parati is a popular tourist attraction located along Brazil’s Green Coast in the Rio de Janeiro state. Also spelled Paraty, this beautiful city is a former Portuguese colony established on the shores of the Bay of Ilha Grande. The heart of Parati is its historic center with cobbled streets and multicolored colonial houses, many of which now serve as bed-and-breakfast accommodations called pousadas.
Fortaleza: Nice beaches, dynamic shopping and lively culture all make Fortaleza one of Brazil’s popular places to visit. The capital of the Ceará state on the country’s northeastern coast, Fortaleza is Brazil’s fifth largest city. The most popular beach is Praia do Futuro, but other favorites are Iracema, Mucuripe and Meireles. Not only are the beaches great for swimming, sunbathing and surfing, but they also offer hotels and restaurants.
Brasilia: Located in the Brazilian Highlands, Brasilia was installed in 1960 as Brazil’s capital. Brazil’s former President Juscelino Kubitschek ordered the city to be planned and developed into what some refer to as a utopia. Brasilia’s modern day infrastructure is designed in the shape of an airplane in which each of its sections serve as different districts such as government, commercial, residential and cultural. The city’s new and creative designed buildings attracts many architecture aficionados.
Sao Paulo: Not only is Sao Paulo the largest city in Brazil, but it is also one of the largest in the world according to population. Located in southeastern Brazil, Sao Paulo is known for its skyscrapers, gastronomy and robust culture scene. It is home to many ethnic groups from all over the globe including the largest Japanese community outside of Japan.
