A Just For Fun Cooking Class in Evora, Portugal
Sofia Vieira's Portuguese cooking class is meant to be an experience for travelers; not a real cooking class. It was a fun experience, although neither sister Judith nor I needed any new expertise in slicing onions. (We could lead our own class in slicing and carmelizing...)
Perhaps the video will give you a few cooking hints. Enjoy!

Amazing Portuguese food, lunch at Origens, Evora's hidden gem
For today's video, I take you to Evora, in southern portugal. Surrounded by rolling Mediterranean hills than you might mistake for napa Valley if it weren't for the occasional roman Ruin, this city is most well known to travelers for the Temple of Diana that still stands there today, attracting tour groups from across the world on their journeys out of Lisbon.
But my favorite Gem of the city is off the main roads, down a small side street, one can find themselves passing by the modest storefront of Origens, an unassuming restaurant that delivers far more than it advertises.
Appetizers, entrees, and desserts that in many cases would not be found out of place on a michilin starred menu, this restaurant takes all the amazing resources that the bountiful area provides and serves them to customers with expert craftsmanship and skill. Farmer's market veggies, local wine, local olive oil, it all comes together under the care of Chef Gonçalo Queiroz, who's website I will link below.
The menu changes seasonally, but there are several staples to it that can be found most of the time, my personal favorite being the shrimp appetizer. Sauteed in white wine and orange juice, finished with a savory hard sheep's cheese, it's absolutely to die for and worth the walk from the temple on its own.
I could gush endlessly about this restaurant to be honest, but I'll leave it to say that I was gone from Portugal for a year and a half between visits, and this place was the one that I always thought of the moment I thought about returning, and for me, it wouldn't be a trip to portugal without a meal prepared by the chef here.
My understanding is that they are involved in a larger establishment/cooking school that is opening soon, what this means for the future, I don't know. But I hope dearly that I will still be able to find food like the meal that I ate at Origens this April the next time I return to portugal.

Thanks for watching, things are a bit hectic at the moment, but I've got lots of plans for content moving forward, and I hope to get things sorted out in the next month or so.

A Alentejo culinary vacation
Alentejo is considered to be Portugal's most authentic and picturesque region.
It is in this peaceful country setting that we found Refúgio da Vila Rural Hotel and Cooking School. Located in Portel, a small town outside Évora, the hotel is set in a Vila manor house, complete with pool and patios.
Between cooking lessons in a kitchen that opens to a courtyard, and tours of the unspoiled countryside Refúgio da Vila Rural Hotel and Cooking School is a culinary adventure. I took this video of Portuguese folksingers during our meal.

The Eating Tales Episode 2: Shake the Hand that Feeds You - Portugal

The episode Shake The Hand That Feeds you is a short introduction to sustainable farming in Portugal and it is a small piece growing awareness about organic farming and how the general public may have access to organic produce for fair prices.
Portugal is a country of farmers that for different reasons came under a sleepy spell and gradually stopped farming the land. But we are now seeing a phenomenon. The young adults are going back to claim the land and cosmopolitan youths are rediscovering farming and they are bringing to the table their new knowledge brought by higher education. The economical crisis was one of the main trigger for this back to the roots philosophy when it was clear the traditional system was not going to do it for us. So the new farmers, the new agricultural engineers and farming specialists are developing solutions in sustainable ways. Together with the old school farmers of always, they are bringing to Portugal a wave of awesome initiatives in terms of sustainable and healthy.food producing farms.
This episode is about one of these farms. In Sesimbra, Portugal, the farm of Mr Miguel Gervásio belongs to a network called PROVE. Together with other organic farmers they deliver weekly or biweekly baskets of healthy vegetables for fair prices. In Portugal organic vegetables are very expensive and this offers a creative solution that is available all over the country and growing.
We believe it is very inspiring to watch these initiatives as the Eating Tales is all about telling stories from people allover the world that, tru food, inspire us and make us want to be better.
We invite you to come meet extraordinary food stories around the world.

MAGIC in SPAIN and Portugal
I was on vacation in Europe and traveled to a few different locations in both Spain and Portugal. I performed magic and mentalism at a bar in Portugal to the bartender and they seemed to really enjoy the magic and gave some great reactions. I had a lot of fun filming this street magic/ bar magic vlog in different countries and I hope you did too. Info see below
Eye-catching in scale and understated and gentle in spirit, this recently renovated estate is full of life and color, and connects perfectly with the rugged native landscape. We love the bleached silhouettes, vibrant accents and classic Portuguese style. No wonder this Boutique Hotel in Redondo, Portugal is a Michelin star winner!
Idyllic and peaceful, with a delightful mix of rustic and contemporary charm, this authentic Portuguese villa has been transformed into a full service hotel with a sophisticated eye for detail and an informal ease.
Situated around olive groves and vineyards below the Serra D’Ossa mountains, the structure preserves the traditional features and classic details of authentic local architecture. The horizontal profile is arranged around a vast interior courtyard and fountains, surrounded by gardens with views of the countryside.
Bright and welcoming, the former country estate retains it’s rural character but has been updated with modern comforts and hospitalities and a full service restaurant.
With three master suites, two junior suites, an interior apartment and an original 19th century farm house, there are multiple living accommodations, each inspired by the color palette of the native wild flowers of the area and outfitted with individual rustic decor.
The on site gourmet restaurant serves meals in the main dining room or alfresco on the outside terrace. Locally sourced from nearby producers as well as the on site gardens and farm, the menu is fresh and seasonal.
The expansive exterior living spaces and poolside lounge are some of the finest spots to enjoy the view and relax in comfort and style. Even in the dog days of summer, it's a downright cool place to stay in Redondo, Portugal.
