Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 24, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
Opening arguments in President Trump’s impeachment trial began on Jan. 22 in the Senate. House managers, led by Rep. Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.), will present three days of opening arguments. Then, senators will have 16 hours to ask questions in writing. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. will read the questions out loud, and the appropriate side — defense or prosecution — can answer them.
President Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Russia: Russian-US agreement on Syria 'in limbo' says Lavrov
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov commented on the Russian-US agreements on Syria, during a joint press conference with his Cambodian counterpart Prak Sokhon, in Moscow, on Monday.
SOT, Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister (Russian): Regarding a real position of the White House on the Syrian crisis: the statements and actions of our American colleagues in Syria are characterised with a sort of inconsistency. And of course we are willing to remove any ambiguities because they affect directly our cooperation with the United States in the implementation of Russia-US agreements. These agreements turned out to be in limbo mainly because it's unclear how Washington considers positions of a number of opposition groups, militants and political opponents of the Assad regime, who turn down or don't want to accept Russian-American agreements.

For Andrica (9 Aug. 1900-1 Mar. 1990), this film and its companion Children of Europe represented a continuation of work he began before WWII. As a writer for the Cleveland Press, he was affectionately dubbed the Broken-English Editor by his colleagues, he promoted a series of All-Nations exhibitions and in 1932 sold Seltzer on the idea of sending him on annual visits to the homelands of their readers. Prior to the outbreak of the war he visited Nazi Germany, a trip showcased in another film (see film 3275 on Youtube). After the war he produced two films to raise attention of the plight of Europe and its suffering masses.
This film is part of the Periscope Film LLC archive, one of the largest historic military, transportation, and aviation stock footage collections in the USA. Entirely film backed, this material is available for licensing in 24p HD, 2k and 4k. For more information visit
Some Features of Sanskritic Education in Ancient Cambodia | SOAS University of London
Some Features of Sanskritic Education in Ancient Cambodia was a seminar given by Ms Kunthea Chhom (Researcher, Apsara Authority, Siem Reap) at the Centre of South East Asian Studies, SOAS University of London on 28 November 2018. Find out more at
Kunthea Chohom is a philologist working on stone inscriptions from ancient Cambodia (which covers the present-day Cambodia, some parts of Thailand, Vietnam and Laos). Her research focuses on the development of Old Khmer language which was in close contact with Sanskrit from the 6th to the 14th century CE. She studies in particular the Sanskrit elements, in form of words and concepts, which were borrowed and adapted in the Old Khmer language as evidenced in the inscriptions.
The purpose of the lecture is to discuss ancient education at Angkor which was closely related to Sanskrit language and Sanskritic culture. The education occurred within intellectual and religious frameworks that offered a variety of courses such as statecraft, philosophy, literature, astronomy-astrology, medicine, architecture and archery techniques.
We will firstly review the role of āśrama which is usually translated into English as ‘hermitage’, beyond its organizational structure and governance. Next, ‘textbooks’ and teaching methods will be examined with special attention to the tradition of knowledge transmission (guru-śiṣya-paraṃparā) and knowledge of family (kulavidyā). Finally, we will explore how and to what extent the Hindu model of education with Sanskrit as its pillar was localized in ancient Cambodia starting with the medium of language.
Main sources used for our study are inscriptions found in temples; sculptures and bas-reliefs as well as recent archeological findings. The inscribed texts, discovered in present-day Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Vietnam are composed in Sanskrit and Khmer between the 6th and 14th centuries. Eulogistic, religious, philosophical and juridical passages of about seventy epigraphs are referenced in the study.
Speaker Biography
Kunthea completed her Bachelor degrees in French and English literatures in 2001 and 2004 respectively, at Royal University of Phnom Penh. In 2005, she went to India to pursue her Master degree in Sanskrit in Magadh University – Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India.
Soon after her completion of the Master degree in 2008, Kunthea started working for Apsara Authority in Siem Reap which looked after the ancient monuments in the World Heritage site of Angkor. Since then, she has been charged with teaching Sanskrit grammar and Sanskrit inscriptions from ancient Cambodia at Faculty of Archaeology, University of Fine Arts, Phnom Penh.
In 2016, Kunthea defended her Ph.D. at Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes – Paris. The thesis was published in July 2018.
Kunthea has published several books and articles. Below are her main publications:
Ian Lowman & Chhom Kunthea “An Angkor Nation?: The Khmer Cosmopolis”: Routledge Worlds’ Series, 2019.

The Treaty of Versailles ended more than the First World War. By putting a final end to the German, Austro-Hungarian, Russian and Ottoman Empires it also raised questions about the future of the Jews who lived in those empires. I
n our continuing series, Short Talks on Big Subjects, Michael S. Neiberg, author of The Treaty of Versailles: A Very Short Introduction, discussed the watershed events of 1916-1919 and their connection to the Jewish people today.
