3477 Douses Road, Belle River, Prince Edward Island, Canada, PEI Real Estate
Stunning Waterfront Property with Apple Orchard Available!! Originally this home was built for Lord Selkirk on PEI’s original Lot 62. When current Vendors purchased the property 25 years ago and being the 8th owners of the property, the once old farm house has been completely transformed/refurbished into the beautiful sight you will see today. The concrete foundation replaced the once upon a time island stone but the pieces of history have been preserved and used to accent this picturesque property with even the Great Wall of Belle River built at the back from the original stones. The old chicken coupe was transformed into the lovely looking cottage/shop which is left for the new owner’s interpretation and usage to finish the space inside. The property borders the Belle River which the owners use to fish for trout to impress their guests for morning breakfast. The home itself has been completely reconfigured for functionality of the space while preserving the integrity and character of the home. Everything within this home has been updated from plumbing, wiring, re-drywalled, new kitchen, bathrooms, roof has been re-shingled twice throughout the years and so much more. Charlottetown Conference
The Charlottetown Conference was held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island for representatives from the colonies of British North America to discuss Canadian Confederation. The conference took place between 1 and 9 September 1864.
The conference was originally planned as a meeting of representatives from the Maritime colonies: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland agreed with the movement, but was not notified in time to take part in the proceedings. Britain encouraged a Maritime Union between these colonies, hoping that they would then become less economically and politically dependent on the Crown, and provide for greater economic and military power for the region in light of the American Civil War. However, another colony, the Province of Canada, comprising present-day Ontario and Quebec, heard news of the planned conference and asked that the agenda be expanded to discuss a union that would also include them. In August 1864 Newfoundland also asked to be allowed to attend the conference, but by then it was too late to change the plans.

First Museum In PEI Montague - Garden of the Gulf Museum
This is our tour through the grand old building
From the site:
The Garden of the Gulf Museum in Montague is home to many treasures. The building is one of the most impressive buildings on PEI, a brick and sandstone Post Office and Customs House completed in 1888.
In 1884, the federal government realized a more formal building was needed in Montague. Ottawa's Dominion architect, Thomas Fuller (1823-1898) designed this truly elegant building. During his tenure as chief architect, Fuller saw 74 new post offices constructed across Canada. Montague, Summerside and Charlottetown had new post offices built in the 1880s.
Charlottetown architects William Critchlow Harris and David Stirling were the overseers for construction and L.A. Wilmot of New Brunswick was the contractor. The first floor housed the Post Office, the second floor had the Customs House, and the third floor was an apartment for the caretaker.
The land was acquired from the estate of Martin Lambert and sandstone was quarried from the banks of the Montague River for the foundation and trim work. Bricks were fired in Montague by Robert Stewart out of Island clay.
The old Post Office/Garden of the Gulf Museum is a beautiful Romanesque Revival building complete with a slate roof.
Romanesque details are the recessed, round arched windows, the arched double entrances and rusticated sandstone trim. There area two ornamental carvings set in arched frames above the entrances. One carving depicts Queen Victoria about 1888 and the other is the Prince Edward Island Coat of Arms, a large oak sheltering three smaller oaks. This represents the protection of Great Britain over our three Island counties, Kings, Queens and Prince.
The total cost of this 1888 Post Office was $6,315.47, a substantial sum for the time. The official opening was May 14, 1888, and the proud Postmaster was Peter Gordon.
A letter from David Stirling to architect, Thomas Fuller about the Montague site in 1884:
It is one of the finest sites for a Public Building, particularly a Customs House and Post Office, that could be found anywhere. It is on high ground...and has a fine view of the river and wharves as also the whole of the north side of the Village.

A Warm Summer Day At Oaklands Mansion

Highlight film of Oaklands Mansion
**MORE INFO BELOW**
The staff at Oaklands contacted me to create a highlight film showcasing the property and mansion. I gave it my best shot and hope that I delivered a small portion of what this beautiful plantation had to offer.
Dr. James Maney and his wife Sallie Hardy Murfree began their plantation with the construction of a modest two-room cabin, circa 1818. By 1860, their home had been drastically enlarged and was the center of a nearly 1,500 acre plantation, and one of the most elegant mansions in Tennessee. During the Civil War, both Union and Confederate armies camped on the plantation. On July 13, 1862, Confederate Cavalryman Nathan Bedford Forrest led a daring raid on the Union troops encamped on the mansion’s lawn. Late that afternoon, their surrender was accepted at a dinner in the parlor.
In December 1862, Jefferson Davis, President of the Confederacy, stayed at Oaklands as an honored guest of the Maneys. Davis came to Murfreesboro to visit Gen. Braxton Bragg’s army camped in town and to get a better idea of the military situation in the Western Theatre. He and several of his generals dined in the parlor of Oaklands.
After the Maneys sold Oaklands in 1884, it passed through a succession of owners. When the last resident left in 1954, the mansion sat vacant and vandalized for five years before being scheduled for demolition. Fortunately, a group of concerned local women mobilized to save the mansion and formed Oaklands Association, a non-profit educational organization, in 1959. The mansion was opened to the public within a year.
“This is an extremely well done restoration which provides tremendous insight into the past.”
- actual Trip Advisor review
Today, Oaklands Mansion is nestled in Oaklands Park, a native tree arboretum and natural wetlands, which includes Maney Spring as well as heritage and native gardens. Oaklands Visitors Center houses a gift shop and Maney Reception Hall for special events and temporary exhibitions. Oaklands Historic House Museum is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00AM – 4:00PM and Sundays 1:00PM – 4:00PM. Tours begin on the hour and a short video is offered on the half hour. Plan your trip today! Admission is $15.00 for adults, $12 for seniors and AAA, $6.00 for children and students, call for group rates. For more information visit oaklandsmuseum.org, find Oaklands Historic House Museum on Facebook or call 615-893-0022.

SUMMARY
=======
Quebec ( ( listen); French: Québec [kebɛk] ( listen)) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is bordered to the west by the province of Ontario and the bodies of water James Bay and Hudson Bay; to the north by Hudson Strait and Ungava Bay; to the east by the Gulf of Saint Lawrence and the province of Newfoundland and Labrador; and to the south by the province of New Brunswick and the U.S. states of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and New York. It also shares maritime borders with Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. Quebec is Canada's largest province by area and its second-largest administrative division; only the territory of Nunavut is larger. It is historically and politically considered to be part of Central Canada (with Ontario).
Quebec is the second-most populous province of Canada, after Ontario. It is the only one to have a predominantly French-speaking population, with French as the sole provincial official language. Most inhabitants live in urban areas near the Saint Lawrence River between Montreal and Quebec City, the capital. Approximately half of Quebec residents live in the Greater Montreal Area, including the Island of Montreal. English-speaking communities and English-language institutions are concentrated in the west of the island of Montreal but are also significantly present in the Outaouais, Eastern Townships, and Gaspé regions. The Nord-du-Québec region, occupying the northern half of the province, is sparsely populated and inhabited primarily by Aboriginal peoples. The climate around the major cities is four-season continental with cold and snowy winters combined with warm to hot humid summers, but farther north long winter seasons dominate and as a result the northern areas of the province are marked by tundra conditions. Even in central Quebec, at comparatively southerly latitudes, winters are severe in inland areas.
Quebec independence debates have played a large role in the politics of the province. Parti Québécois governments held referendums on sovereignty in 1980 and 1995; both were rejected by voters, the latter defeated by a very narrow margin. In 2006, the House of Commons of Canada passed a symbolic motion recognizing the Québécois as a nation within a united Canada.While the province's substantial natural resources have long been the mainstay of its economy, sectors of the knowledge economy such as aerospace, information and communication technologies, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical industry also play leading roles. These many industries have all contributed to helping Quebec become an economically influential province within Canada, second only to Ontario in economic output.

Quebec ( (listen); French: Québec [kebɛk] (listen)) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada.
The climate around the major cities is four-seasons continental with cold and snowy winters combined with warm to hot humid summers, but farther north long winter seasons dominate and as a result the northern areas of the province are marked by tundra conditions.
In 2006, the House of Commons of Canada passed a symbolic motion recognizing the Québécois as a nation within ...

Set in the late 19th century, the novel recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley, an 11-year-old orphan girl, who is mistakenly sent to two middle-aged siblings; Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, originally intending to adopt a boy to help them on their farm in the fictional town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. The novel recounts how Anne makes her way through life with the Cuthberts, in school, and within the town.
Since its publication, Anne of Green Gables has sold more than 50 million copies and has been translated into at least 36 languages. Montgomery wrote numerous sequels, and since her death, another sequel has been published, as well as an authorized prequel. The original book is taught to students around the world.The book has been adapted as films, made-for-television movies, and animated and live-action television series. Musicals and plays have also been created, with productions annually in Europe, and Japan.
Halifax Explosion
The Halifax Explosion occurred in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on the morning of December 6, 1917. SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship fully loaded with wartime explosives, was involved in a collision with the Norwegian vessel SS Imo in the Narrows, a strait connecting the upper Halifax Harbour to Bedford Basin. Approximately twenty minutes later, a fire on board the French ship ignited her explosive cargo, causing a cataclysmic explosion that devastated the Richmond District of Halifax. Approximately 2,000 people were killed by debris, fires, and collapsed buildings, and it is estimated that nearly 9,000 others were injured. The blast was the largest man-made explosion prior to the development of nuclear weapons, with an equivalent force of roughly 2.9 kilotons of TNT. In a meeting of the Royal Society of Canada in May 1918, Dalhousie University's Professor Howard L. Bronson estimated the blast at some 2400 metric tons of high explosive.
Mont-Blanc was under orders from the French government to carry her highly explosive cargo overseas to Bordeaux, France. At roughly 8:45 am, she collided at slow speed (1 to 1.5 miles per hour or 1.6 to 2.4 kilometres per hour) with the 'in-ballast' (without cargo) Imo, chartered by the Commission for Relief in Belgium to pick up a cargo of relief supplies in New York. The resultant fire aboard the French ship quickly grew out of control. Without adequate and accessible firefighting equipment, the captain, pilot, officers and men were forced to abandon her within a few minutes following the accident. Approximately 20 minutes later (at 9:04:35 am), Mont-Blanc exploded with tremendous force. Nearly all structures within a half-mile (800 m) radius, including the entire community of Richmond, were completely obliterated. A pressure wave of air snapped trees, bent iron rails, demolished buildings, grounded vessels, and carried fragments of the Mont-Blanc for kilometres. Hardly a window in the city proper survived the concussion. Across the harbour, in Dartmouth, there was also widespread damage. A tsunami created by the blast wiped out the physical community of Mi'kmaq First Nations people that had lived in the Tuft's Cove area for generations. There were a number of casualties including five children who drowned when the tsunami came ashore at Nevin's Cove.

SUMMARY
=======
Alberta ( (listen); French: [albɛʁta]) is a western province of Canada. With an estimated population of 4,067,175 as of 2016 census, it is Canada's fourth most populous province and the most populous of Canada's three prairie provinces. Its area is about 660,000 square kilometres (250,000 sq mi). Alberta and its neighbour Saskatchewan were districts of the Northwest Territories until they were established as provinces on September 1, 1905. The premier is Jason Kenney as of April 30, 2019.
Alberta is bounded by the provinces of British Columbia to the west and Saskatchewan to the east, the Northwest Territories to the north, and the U.S. state of Montana to the south. Alberta is one of three Canadian provinces and territories to border only a single U.S. state and one of only two landlocked provinces. It has a predominantly humid continental climate, with stark contrasts over a year; but seasonal temperature average swings are smaller than in areas further east, due to winters being warmed by occasional chinook winds bringing sudden warming.Alberta's capital, Edmonton, is near the geographic centre of the province and is the primary supply and service hub for Canada's crude oil, the Athabasca oil sands and other northern resource industries.About 290 km (180 mi) south of the capital is Calgary, the largest city in Alberta. Calgary and Edmonton centre Alberta's two census metropolitan areas, both of which have populations exceeding one million, while the province has 16 census agglomerations.Tourist destinations in the province include Banff, Canmore, Drumheller, Jasper, Sylvan Lake and Lake Louise.

These many industries have all contributed to helping Quebec become an economically influential province within Canada, second only to Ontario in economic output.

SUMMARY
=======
In Canada, the First Nations (French: Premières Nations [pʁəmjɛʁ nasjɔ̃]) are the predominant indigenous peoples in Canada south of the Arctic Circle. Those in the Arctic area are distinct and known as Inuit. The Métis, another distinct ethnicity, developed after European contact and relations primarily between First Nations people and Europeans. There are 634 recognized First Nations governments or bands spread across Canada, roughly half of which are in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia.Under the Employment Equity Act, First Nations are a designated group, along with women, visible minorities, and people with physical or mental disabilities. First Nations are not defined as a visible minority under the Act or by the criteria of Statistics Canada.North American indigenous peoples have cultures spanning thousands of years. Some of their oral traditions accurately describe historical events, such as the Cascadia earthquake of 1700 and the 18th-century Tseax Cone eruption. Written records began with the arrival of European explorers and colonists during the Age of Discovery, beginning in the late 15th century. European accounts by trappers, traders, explorers, and missionaries give important evidence of early contact culture. In addition, archeological and anthropological research, as well as linguistics, have helped scholars piece together an understanding of ancient cultures and historic peoples.
Although not without conflict, Euro-Canadians' early interactions with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit populations were less combative compared to the often violent battles between colonists and native peoples in the United States.
Tim Hortons
Tim Hortons Inc. (known internationally as Tim Horton's Cafe and Bake Shop) is a Canadian multinational fast casual restaurant known for its coffee and doughnuts. It is also Canada's largest fast food service; at the end of 2013, it had 3,588 restaurants in Canada, 859 in the United States and 38 in the Persian Gulf region. It was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario, by Canadian hockey player Tim Horton and Jim Charade, after an initial venture in hamburger restaurants. In 1967, Horton partnered with investor Ron Joyce, who assumed control over operations after Tim Horton died in 1974, and expanded the chain into a multi-million dollar franchise. Charade left the organization in 1966 and briefly returned in 1970 and 1993 through 1996.
Tim Hortons franchises spread rapidly and eventually overtook McDonald's as Canada's largest food service operator. The company opened twice as many Canadian outlets as McDonald's and system-wide sales also surpassed those of McDonald's Canadian operations as of 2002. The chain accounted for 22.6% of all fast food industry revenues in Canada in 2005. Tim Hortons commands 76% of the Canadian market for baked goods (based on the number of customers served) and holds 62% of the Canadian coffee market (compared to Starbucks, in the number two position, at 7%).
