Prison Island(Changuu Island) and Sand Bank Tour Zanzibar.
Changuu Island (also known as Kibandiko, Prison or Quarantine Island) is a small island 5.6 km north-west of Stone Town, Unguja, Zanzibar. The island is around 800m long and 230m wide at its broadest point.[1] The island saw use as a prison for rebellious slaves in 1860s and also functioned as a coral mine. The British First Minister of Zanzibar, Lloyd Mathews, purchased the island in 1893 and constructed a prison complex there. No prisoners were ever housed on the island and instead it became a quarantine station for yellow fever cases. The station was only occupied for around half of the year and the rest of the time it was a popular holiday destination. More recently, the island has become a government-owned tourist resort and houses a collection of endangered Aldabra giant tortoises which were originally a gift from the British governor of the Seychelles.

We explored Zanzibar, Tanzania, ate at the street food market in forodhani park, took a boat ride to Prison Island (Changuu private island) saw the giant tortoise & also ate at a local restaurant called Lukmaan.
You really dont need a Tour company to arrange that trip. You can catch a boat yourself either between Forodhani and The ferry or at the other side of Forodhani. Just go down and stand there, within 10 seconds people will offering you a boattrip.
If rent a boat yourself the price should be able to get it for around 40-60.000 TSH (20-30 USD). If you join another group around 10000Tzs (5usd).
The trip is really great and worth The money, through it might less than a halfday.

Changuu Island ( Prison island) Zanzibar
Changuu - Prison Island - Zanzibar
Prison Island, ZANZIBAR Travel Vlog 2019
READ:
This is the first in a series of Zanzibar travel vlogs that I plan to release every day this week.
This Prison Island Zanzibar travel vlog shows off an island that was built to be used as a prison but ended up being used to quarantine people with Yellow Fever and other tropical diseases and was later used as a private resort and Giant Tortoise sanctuary.
The Tortoise can only be found in their natural habitat in the Seychellese and The Galapagos Islands but here they stay in a private island in a sanctuary after they were a gift from the Seychelles to
the leader of Zanzibar many years ago. Some are over 100 years old!
A day trip from Stone Town to Prison Island is definitely one of the top things to do in Stone Town and top places to visit in Zanzibar.
Tropical Changuu Island
Off the coast of Zanzibar island lays this little island also called Prison island. The island is home of a group of Aldabra tortoises and the former european bungalow is in use as a restaurant.

Prison Island, or Changuu Island, is a tiny island which lies a kilometre off the east coast of Zanzibar. Slaves awaiting export were held captive here in the 18th century. Today it is an uninhabited peaceful idyll surrounded by lush greenery and white sand banks.

Prison Island - Zanzibar (Changuu Island)

TORTOISE SANCTUARY | PRISION ISLAND | ZANZIBAR
????
