A Landmark Conservation Project: Province House National Historic Site
Province House National Historic Site in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island is now known as the birthplace of Canada. Parks Canada protects and presents this important part of our national heritage. Today, the Agency is working hard to conserve this building in order to preserve the unique history of Province House for years to come.

A Building of Destiny - Province House National Historic Site
Parks Canada’s 20-minute film ‘A Building of Destiny’ which transports viewers back in time to the first eight days in September 1864 when history was made at Province House that would change the face of North America. This film also showcases related themes, including the First Nations context at the time of Confederation and the role of women in Victorian society.

A Building of Destiny – Province House
Province House is where the Prince Edward Island Legislature, known as the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, has met since 1847. The building is located at the intersection of Richmond and Great George Streets in Charlottetown; it is Canada's second-oldest seat of government.

Province House tour
One of the most historic and most unique construction projects ever undertaken in Prince Edward Island broke ground in May 2017. Province House, the building that hosted the original meeting of the Fathers of Confederation that led to the formation of Canada, is getting a $47 million structural facelift.
Glanmore National Historic Site of Canada
Glanmore National Historic Site is a restored Victorian home located in Belleville, Ontario. It was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 1969 in recognition of its exceptional Second Empire architecture. The museum cares for an extensive collection of antique furniture, paintings and ceramics. This seven minute video features highlights from the 38 minute DVD, which increases accessibility.
Recent restoration projects conserved the lath and plaster ceilings and returned the original 1880s colour schemes to the rooms. The 2012 video revision captures the changes to the main hallway, dining room and living room.

Historical Site in Virtual Reality
Parks Canada and UPEI have a proud history of collaboration in Prince Edward Island. Students from the Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering recently embarked on a project with Parks Canada and animation students from The University of Trinidad and Tobago to deliver Province House Virtual Reality—a virtual reality experience that allows users to interact with the Charlottetown landmark while Province House National Historic Site undergoes important conservation work.
Parcs Canada et l’Université de l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard ont une riche tradition de collaboration à l’Île-du-Prince-Édouard. Les étudiants de la faculté de génie de conception durable se sont récemment lancés dans un projet avec Parcs Canada et des étudiants en animation de l’Université de Trinité-et-Tobago afin d’offrir au public Province House : réalité virtuelle. Cette expérience de réalité virtuelle permet aux utilisateurs d’explorer ce lieu d’intérêt de Charlottetown pendant que le lieu historique national Province House fait l’objet d’importants travaux de conservation.

Celebrate the Canadian Dream! an enchanting and informative new Sound & Light show on Prince Edward Islands National Historic site Province House was launched July 2 2009.
The Sound and Light Show integrates video, giant projections and light along with an historical narrative and an original score to mine the riches of history, and invite the audience to explore Prince Edward Island and Canada, as it points to the future. It powerfully evokes recalls, engages and challenges the senses and is fast-moving, dynamic, and simply spectacular.
The large scale multimedia production is a charming introduction to PEI for newcomers and a warm and loving look at the Island for those who already know it well. The Charlottetown Sound and Light Show enhances Charlottetowns place in the minds of all Canadians as the Birthplace of the Canadian Confederation. The 22 minute long bilingual show will run every summer from July 1st to October for the next three years.
This show was created and produced by the artists and technicians of Torontos AVH Live Communications. AVH Live Communications also created the internationally renowned, award winning Sound & Light show currently running on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.

Royal Tour at Province House
Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, greeted people gathered at Province House Tuesday, May 20, 2014, before proceeding inside to tour the historic building where the Fathers of Confederation met in 1864. The Royal Couple took part in a Youth Parliament staged in the legislative assembly before His Royal Highness was awarded the Symonds Medal and gave a speech at Confederation Centre of the Arts next door.
