What To Do In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico's most popular destinations for snow birds trying to escape the cold back home. In this video I'm sharing some fun activities you can do there, many of which are free. Start by getting a bird's eye view of the old city (centro historico) by climbing up to an old lighthouse that's now a lookout point called Mirador Matamoros. Next check out the Chocolate Museum to learn about the history and culture of chocolate in Mexico, plus make your own to take home. To walk off the sugar high, head to River Cuale Island (Isla Rio Cuale) for some shopping or to grab a bite to eat. Then I suggest joining the Art Walk to learn about Puerto Vallarta's art scene and hear the stories behind its public art. At the end of the day, stroll along the lovely walkway that winds along the water called the Malecón. Try a popular local drink called a Tuba and get a photo with the Puerto Vallarta sign. The Malecón is the perfect place to catch the sunset and end the day.
Huge thank you to the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board and ENroute Communications for inviting us to experience Puerto Vallarta.

Puerto Vallarta, April 2019
Tour & Reviews of Grand Fiesta Americana Puerto Vallarta 2019
Grand hotel in Mexico's legendary Pacific Coast resort town of Puerto Vallarta. It's the ideal spot for a romantic getaway with the one you love – a place to forget about the bustle of daily life and recapture the closeness, the romance, and the passion that come so naturally when surrounded by such a beautiful place. The hotel is located just six minutes from the Historic Downtown District and 20 minutes from Puerto Vallarta International Airport
We were on floor 8 in the south tower, just 3 rooms along from the skybar. It was quite loud at night, which didn’t bother us too much, but if you want a quiet room you would need to request to be at the far side of the south or north tower, away from the bar.
The staff in the resort are all incredibly friendly and helpful and are an absolute credit to the hotel. The entertainment staff in particular (Juan, Emilio, Abraham & Roberto) really made the trip for us! There was always so much going on by the pool whether it be aqua fitness, card games, cooking classes, silly games or water volleyball, and the team were great at getting people involved! There’s sometimes even things to win up for grabs, like free massages or excursions (we actually won an excursion with Vallarta Adventures which was awesome, and worth $129!)
The pool area is fun and lively during the day, and there are lots of pool-side activities you can hop into at a moment's notice (card games, bartending class, tortilla-making class, dance lessons, to name a few). The activity staff are all amazing and by the end of the week, they felt like an extension of our group - love when they can join in on our volleyball games!
The food was great. The 3 speciality restaurants (Asian, Mexican & Italian) produced delicious and high quality food. The service did drop a little on the weekends when it was busy, but nothing that was really a problem. The portions aren’t huge which we liked - they certainly don’t scrimp on the more expensive ingredients and don’t try and fill you with excessive carbs - there’s always the option to order more too for those that do prefer larger meals. The cervicheria is a great option for lunch - so much fresh fish & seafood! The grill (and pool food service) caters more towards burgers/tacos/hot dogs. There really is so much choice for whichever style of dining you prefer. We also tried the buffet - good selection at breakfast with an egg station, fresh juicing station etc. At lunch and dinner there didn’t feel to be as much choice at the buffet, so we just stuck with the a la Carte restaurants after one trip. A few people have complained on reviews about things like the coffee bar in the lobby charging - this is just if you want Starbucks branded coffee. You can pick up a standard coffee for no cost.
The cocktails and drinks at the bars were amazing - definitely quite strong and the choice was not limited! The pool service waiters were great - Fernando and the team made sure we were never without! Would have been good to have a menu at the pool bar as inspiration on what cocktails to order.
The resort is absolutely beautiful. The location is stunning, and the resort is kept incredibly clean. They treated our room with tea tree oil daily, and we did not see a single insect in our room, which is unheard of south of the border. The maid service was impeccable.
The location of the property is convenient to town. It is a $10-$15 US cab ride, and the hotel staff will get you a taxi super fast. There is a cool littl towwn further up the coast that has a tequila distellery that is worth chekcing out (I think it is called Mama someething). We went in to town twice. We tried both of the microbreweries and had dinner at Jo Jack's fishouse, which is awesome. We also ate street tacos at a little place called Carboncito. Also outstanding.
Overall we had a fantastic holiday and the things that weren’t 100% in no way affected our enjoyment! Would definitely recommend!

Here I am: On the Gray Line Puerto Vallarta City Tour! While the previous tour focused on the outskirts of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, this tour was in the city’s central location! & Yes... every tour of Mexico seems to include a tequila tasting ???? Cheers! lol. I loved the variety of historical sight-seeing as well as the mom & pop shops. Plus, I was happy to finally spot some street art. Puerto Vallarta Tour with Banadaras Bay - YouTube
Old Puerto Vallarta or the new areas with expensive homes along the shore of Banadaras Bay or in the surrounding mountains draws vacationers from around the world and locals from throughout Mexico.
Beautiful location, warm climate and many things of interest to do and see including the annual humpback whale migration had us busy when we were here a few years ago.

Bucerias Street Market, Riviera Nayarit, north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Take a stroll along the cobblestone streets in Bucerias, many say that it's like talking a walk to the past of Puerto Vallarta, back in time, the locals will greet you while they talk to their next-door neighbors, small stores, some international food dining establishments, government and real estate offices, art galleries, a local market with numerous Huichol works of art as well as small street stands that offer fresh oysters in their shells, maybe you might even get tempted to stay in town more than a day.
In the 1940's Bucerias was a few palapa huts, and the citizens cultivated corn, sorgo, sesame, peanuts and fruit, other activities included fishing. Access to the little village was not easy mainly throughout the rainy season (the summer months), however after 1955 a much better road was built there helping locals and providing easier access for visitors.
The most popular local fiestas are the religious festivities for the Virgen de la Paz, January 24 each year, includes peregrinations by sea on colorfully decorated boats with different spiritual symbolism, fireworks, dance, local Mexican delicacies and lots more.

Do you know Yelapa South of Puerto Vallarta in Jalisco Mexico? What To Expect There
Yelapa is a town nestled in the south coast of the 7th largest bay in the World, Banderas Bay, in the state of Jalisco, on the West Coast of Mexico. Even though there is land access, the road is not paved and there are very few cars that can get through, the real access route is by sea. You can get there from either Puerto Vallarta directly on a water taxi (panga) or go by land to the last bay before the highway goes inland, to Boca de Tomatlan, where most water taxis start off.
Yelapa Jalisco Mexico is a quiet, picturesque little seaside village in Cabo Corrientes. It's been chosen by many important artists and celebrities, you'll know why, once you get there. The emerald-colored waters laps the edges of the golden sand beaches. There's lots of things to do in Yelapa, snorkeling, scuba diving, parasailing, paragliding, horseback riding and more.
It's a very popular day trip when visiting Puerto Vallarta. Visit the Yelapa waterfall, sunbathe, take a swim or just relax. Nights there are also romantic and very interesting, nature really comes to life at night.
There are some nice places to eat and stay at too, read more on this and get some cool tips on our site. Read more on Day Trips Puerto Vallarta, what to do in Yelapa, the best things to do in Yelapa, watch a video of Yelapa beach and much more at:

Beautiful Staircase to Las Pilitas Los Muertos Beach, Puerto Vallarta
Las Pilitas is the place where the original The Boy on the Seahorse (El Niño Sobre el Caballo de Mar - mostly known as El Caballito de Mar, The Little Seahorse) by Rafael Zamarripa was first located. Now people just know it as the Seahorse statue, just in case.
A strong storm swept the statue into the sea, the local government requested a larger replica from the young artist and this one was placed on the Puerto Vallarta Malecon, a place where it would be safer. This was the first statue of many more that would later become part of the now-famous open-air gallery along the seaside promenade (malecon) in downtown PV.
The original statue was later recovered and placed once again at Las Pilitas on the rocks (it was swept away again during Hurricane Kenna and recovered once again), you can see it there today, you can also see that the concrete block is extra reinforced now :-). See it here:
Las Pilitas themselves are just a series of rocks that lay between the sea and the beach, nothing sensational, but a good reference point. They appear and disappear (more or less) depending on the beaches evolution, there's quite a bit of sand moving in and out and up and down the beach. So you never know just how much rock you'll find. They could form small tide pools, thus the name: pilitas, (small baptismal font).
A side streets from Olas Altas Street in Old Vallarta is also named after this natural landmarks. To get to them you can walk South along the malecon and then follow Los Muertos Beach past the pier, past Blue Chairs Resort, then you'll get to Las Pilitas. You can also walk along Amapas Street until you get to the staircase above and walk down from there. Watch the intro video for the exact location of the staircase or use this link:

We absolutely love the country of Mexico, but we were shocked by the things no one told us about Old Vallarta in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
living in Mexico vs the USA
There are a lot of great things about PV but we think it's a city that's just not right for us. Since living in Mexico, we've visited quite a few cities as ex-pats in Mexico and Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco might be our least favorite of them all.
Of course, we have different criteria than you when it comes to what exactly makes a city great, so watch this Puerto Vallarta blog and decide for yourself if you might be able to look past the things that we didn't like.
Are you wondering what life in Puerto Vallarta México is like? Everyone says great things about it but what's the ugly side of Puerto Vallarta? Here's our non-expert opinion as ex-pats in PV. Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico's most popular destinations for snowbirds trying to escape the cold back home. In this video, I'm sharing some fun activities you can do there, many of which are free.

→ Who are we?
Hey there! We are Greg and Hillary – a husband and wife team that loves traveling, going on adventures, and helping others do the same! Although we love traveling, at this point in time, we still have full time 9-5 jobs in Dallas, Texas.
In August of 2016, we packed up our things, Greg quit his job, and we moved to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico!
Hillary is working remotely for her CPA firm and Greg is working on this site full time.
We view ourselves as fairly ordinary people, complete with an ordinary income, ordinary jobs, and (unfortunately) an ordinary amount of student loan debt (thanks UNT!).
I know what you are thinking, “Aren’t travel blogs supposed to be written by hippies that don’t have jobs and live in hostels?!” Well don’t you worry, we are working on making that happen! Although we hope to become full time travelers in the next 1-2 years, this site is not necessarily aimed at people that want to travel full time.
Our hope is not that you quit your job and become a long haired, bearded, Volkswagen van driving hippy. Instead, our hope is that after reading our stories you are more inspired to live a more fulfilling life from 5pm-9am!
Why such the emphasis on how ordinary we are? Although we love reading travel blogs, it is easy to feel disconnected from the writers at times. It seems as though they are leading such extraordinary lives that they are somehow doing something that is unreachable to the “average” person.
We are here to prove that wrong. We are here to tell you that even if you work a full-time job and only get two weeks of vacation each year-you still have the power to design an adventurous life for yourself. Afterall, that is exactly where we started before leaving it all behind to live la vida loca!
After having several caffeine induced conversations about how people should travel more and shift their priorities in a way that will lead to a more fulfilling life, we decided to share our stories with you.
Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Throughout this site you will find posts about how to go on a cheap weekend trip, funny stories such as the time Hillary forgot to update her passport before an international trip, and inspirational rants on why you should lead a more adventurous life!
