Hidden Paradise, Labuan Bajo, Komodo, NTT, Indonesia. Vlog Ep.23
Here is the 1 minute recap of my journey in Flores.
This can easily be one of the best vacation ever so far. Beautiful beaches and scenery, amazing people, and crystal clear sea water for the entire journey, no doubt this is one of the hidden paradise located at the Nusa Tenggara Timur of Indonesia flores, 1hour away by plane from Bali.
I joined one of the Indonesia local tour for 3 days 2 nights, where you can easily find it in instagram and/or local tour when you reach Labuan bajo. We stay on the boat for the entire journey. Bunker bed. Slightly small but quite comfortable with airconditioning in each room. Food and drink was provided for the entire journey 3meals a day, so don't scare of being hungry or thirsty.
Places I've visited from this 3days journey are Kelor island, Rinca island, Pink beach, Padar island, Gili lawa island, makassar island, and Kanawa island.
I really enjoy myself so much that i totally and completely forgot my work, my friends, and my family, literally. So, if you have the chance, Labuan Bajo komodo is a must place for you to visit.
Here are some tips that you may consider before you go for the trip:
1. There will be quite a bit of hiking. So physically train your body weeks before the trip will make you easier and to prevent body shock.
2. At the same time, you may choose your old sports shoes for the hike. The rocks may be uneven and it may spoil or makes the shoes dirty.
3. Some vitamin for you to keep fit because you will be dehydrated as you will be under the sun for the entire 3 days, 24hours.
4. Sun block is A MUST. The higher the spf, the better it is. Unless you want to have a very tanned skin.
5. Swim suit/trunk. Bring at least 2 to 3 pairs.
6. Plenty of rest
7. The most important is, you are not SEA SICK.

Flores and Komodo islands 2015
I visited Flores for 8 days and what a beautiful country. The best place I visited till now in Asia. Pure nature and clear wather I have never seen. During my trip I saw manta´s, dolphins, baby sharks, komodo´s, deers, buffalo's, proks, monkeys, big flying foxes, turtles, lion fish, and all the things I forget now. I visited Rinca island, komodo island, pink beach, manta point, kanawa island, wea rebo village. Such as friendly people in Flores. We also slept for one night on an uninhabited island what was awesome!

Snorkeling Coral Reefs and Sleeping on a Deserted Island | Indonesia Boat Tour
We couldn't believe our eyes as we motored up to our new home for the next 3 days and 2 nights! We would be sleeping on a deserted island in the middle of the ocean! The entire group was buzzing as we beached the small vessel and clamored out of the dingy. Deborah knows how to be graceful, however, and within 5 minutes of being on our new island, ran into a tree and fell to the ground in pain. ???? She sure knows how to make an impression!
The snorkeling simply got better and better the entire trip! Deborah found some hidden gills during snorkeling and began to dive down to the bottom of the reef. She just must know what is down there!
During these crazy adventures, and something we try to share but don't always do a great job of capturing, are the small moments where we sit down together and simply talk about our day and what we enjoyed seeing. We are best friends and know how blessed we are to have each other and to share the love of travel.

Entry Title: Kanawa island - Flores
Entry:
EN: We flew to Labuan Bajo, on the west coast of Flores and right next to the islands of Komodo and Rinca, home of the world's largest lizard, the Komodo dragon. The airport in Labuan Bajo is really small with only one runway. There were plenty of people waiting for us when we landed, so finding a taxi to town was no problem. We didn't arrange any accomodation in advance and thought it would be as easy to find one as in other places, but we couldn't be more wrong. There aren't many places to stay in Labuan Bajo and most of them were full, so we had to walk for a long time in the afternoon heat dragging around our mega backpacks, but luckily we got the last room in Bajo Beach Hotel. The place was not great, it was a bit dirty and stinky and had the standard Flores bathroom inventory deluxe - cold mandi (water tank with a scoop) and a western toilet (pure standard is a squat). Eventually we were happy we had a place to sleep. Labuan Bajo itself is not such an interesting place, but it stands at a very beautiful bay dotted with small islands. Since there is not much to do in Labuan Bajo and the beaches are not that great, we decided to head off to the nearby Kanawa island the next day. At night we still had time to enjoy a nice sunset over the Labuan Bajo harbour drinking a cold Bintang, which made it up a bit for the earlier struggle. Next morning we checked out from the hilton and took a small boat to the Kanawa island. The trip took about an hour and a half, so we could admire all the beautiful small islands on the way, some of them had nice white empty beaches. Kanawa is a tiny island with 3 hills and a few beaches around them, it is uninhabited except for the beach bungallows. There are about 15 bungallows on the biggest beach and a restaurant with a reception. The beaches here are very beautiful, although it is almost impossible to swim, especially during the low tide the sea is very shallow and with corals and rocks. The only place we could really swim and go snorkeling from was the jetty. Living conditions here are slightely primitive, the bathroom is the Flores standard and we even brushed our teeth at the squat toilet as there was no sink. Fresh water was brought from another island near by and only ran for half an hour a day (just enough to fill up our mandi) and power ran only from 6pm till about midnight. Apart from other animals living with us (mostly bugs and lizards), we also had a few whining cats at our door every night and a local pet deer. One night many giant turtles came to lay eggs at the beach, so the next morning there were many holes and turtle steps not only on our beach, but also other beaches all around the island. Snorkeling was excelent as the reef here is very colourful with many different corals and fish, we even saw a huge napoleon fish and a shark. We also did two dives, out of which only one was nice, the first one was a check dive just of the boat jetty and there was not much to see to be honest. The second dive was from a boat and was much better. Because Kanawa is such a small isolated place, it was easy to meet other travellers and exchange useful information not only about Indonesia. We met a couple of couples :-), they were from Spain, Australia, Slovenia, Germany and France, and also George from Canada. We mainly gathered in the restaurant, which btw was nothing special, and communication with the staff was difficult at times as most of them spoke no English. One day we went for a boat trip to the Rinca island, the home of the Comodo Dragon. The journey to the island takes about 2 hours and apart from the capitan, we were the only 2 people on the boat. We left Kanawa at 6am and on the way we could enjoy the sunrise while having breakfast. About half way through our engine broke down and we could only go backwards and about 1km per hour. We ...

Flores Island, Indonesia, Mt. Kelimutu 2016
The volcano exploded and left the earth with 3 crater lakes. The tri color lakes which are vastly different, typically black, green, and blue, sometimes red, white, and blue, are a natural phenomenon that scientists have not been able to answer definitively.
Besides the volcano, we also went to Nanga Penda, the beach covered in aquamarine stone. Again, it seems that there is not information about why these stones wash ashore but their vibrant color is highly prized amongst the village and harvested for selling. No one seems to know why is it aquamarine.
As a hot springs connoisseur , I also pride myself in the various types of waters I have been in. The waters emerge from two waterfalls that have unbearably hot water, and a mildly cold water that then flow down and mix in large swimming areas...amazingly pure and soft on the body.
Our 5 day and 900kilometer round trip journey took us through magical lands that top my experience on all 4 continents I have ever visited. If magic exists, it starts here.
I am happy to share any information if you are curious to travel in SE Asia at all or specifically on the Labuan Bajo Mt. Kelimutu path.
check out the blog for more details on the journey.
