#Canadian Wilderness
The Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park is a provincial park in south-central Ontario, Canada, between Gravenhurst and Minden. The park, named for Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, is 33,505 hectares in size, making it the second largest park south of Algonquin Park (after Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park), but it has a fragmented shape as a result of many private lands within its boundary.
It was originally known as Dalton Digby Wildlands Provincial Park, after the two townships it encompassed, before being renamed on October 9, 2002, to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee visit to Ontario. It fulfilled a promise by the then-Conservative government of Ontario to name a new provincial park in her honour.

This is not your entry level provincial park. It is a wilderness area with no amenities and it is not an easy park to find entrance into from the west because it is difficult to know what is park and what is private.

Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Canoe Route - Scrabble Lale
This video documents our exploratory trip to the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park from April of 2012. This trip saw us venture into Scrabble/Clear Lakes via Fishog Lake and Digby Creek. Many portages were non-existent or extremely rough, thus we cleared, mapped and flagged the route. A map of the parks routes which we have compiled is available at:

I said I was done camping for the year - I LIED!
After purchasing a Marmot Trestles 15 Sleeping Bag (Rated to -9) from Atmosphere I decided to give winter camping a test run with my friends Eric & Amar. We left Toronto Friday night, headed to Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park and started hiking out in the dead of night. Taking into account the windchill we probably hit -10 that night - pushing our sleeping bags to their limits.
After night #1, the 13.6km's we hiked in seemed like a cakewalk. Plenty of Beaver Damns to cross, a mix of Rocks, Cliffs, Trees and ATV Trails.

In this short video, catch a glimpse of winter in the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Provincial Park. There's plenty of options for backcountry hiking during the winter season at this park. The Ganaraska Hiking trail can make for a rugged route, and crossing frozen lakes and portages expands your route options. Places visited in this video include Sheldon, Victoria, Cooney, Scrabble, Clear, Coburn and Redboat Lake. Trips were completed in 2012 & 2013.

Nam, John, Jay and I hiked a total of 45 km over 4 days, 3 nights at the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands Park here in Ontario, Canada. Most of my video didn't turn out because my lens fogged up, so this is all I've got. We got about 25cm (10 inches) of snow over the weekend.
In the distance, you can see some ice fishermen out on Sheldon Lake.
Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands / The Ganaraska Trail - Solo Overnight Canoe Trip
Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands - Solo Overnight Canoe Trip - October 2017 - Ganaraska Trail - Southern Ontario Portages
A few weeks ago, I decided to check something off my bucket list. A solo, overnight canoe trip! I rented myself a perfect little, lightweight canoe from the Paddle Shack in Gravenhurst, ON and headed out to the Queen Elizabeth II Wildlands out of Moore's Falls, Ontario. I drove over to Devil's Lake. parked and launched my canoe. From there I began my short trip down the lake, to the 1 km portage that leads to Sheldon Lake. I only had one night so I quickly stopped at Sheldon and set up camp.
I tried for some fish, but failed! I enjoyed some delicious tenderloin steaks, a cigar and a couple sips of Crown Royal! The best part though, was the view. Nothing beats eating your dinner and watching the sun go down with only the sound of the wind and the birds to listen to. I guess that's what heaven's like!
I almost wet myself when I walked right into a big buck on the trail. What a sight! Beautiful! I cant wait to go back and venture a little further into the park! This job thing is really cramping my style LOL
