The musical theatre community of Queensland is banding together in an effort to raise money for the Queensland Premier's Flood Relief Fund, supporting those across the state who have been devastated by the recent floods.
Harvest Rain Theatre Company has gathered together a selection of Queensland's musical theatre talent to record a ballad version of the much loved anthem LOVE YOU QUEENSLAND, which has been released as a single on iTunes with all proceeds going to the Premier's Flood Relief Fund.
Simon Gallaher, who made the song famous almost 30 years ago, lent his voice to the recording, and he was joined by musical theatre performers like Leisa Barry-Smith, Jason Barry-Smith, Liz Buchanan, Julie Cotterell, Kynan Francis, Angela Harding, Belinda Heit, Luke Kennedy, David Kidd, Hannah King, Shaun Kohlman, Dash Kruck, Arlie McCormick, Kathryn McIntyre, Naomi Price, Danika Saal, Megan Shorey, Lionel Theunissen and Luke Venables. This selection of voices represents talent from across all the major musical theatre companies in Queensland.
The recording was the brainchild of Harvest Rain's Artistic Director, Tim O'Connor. As soon as the floods hit, people within the theatre community started asking what we could all do to raise money to help those affected by the floods. Charity concerts started cropping up all over the country, but it was the emails I was getting from our colleagues in London and New York asking how they could help that sold me on the idea of releasing a charity single that people all over the world could buy to support the victims of the floods.
Brisbane radio station B105 kindly donated their studios for the recording of the single, which was arranged by Maitlohn Drew and engineered by Cameron Heit.
Matthew Gray Mastering also donated their time to master the single and Valleyarm Digital Music Distribution assisted in getting the single on iTunes in such a short time.
It was a real buzz to bring such an incredible group of voices together for one afternoon to record this very special song, says O'Connor. Everyone was so keen to jump on board for this project, and we all just hope that it now raises lots of money for those in need in Queensland.

Awful theatre comes to Brisbane
If you enjoy theatre that is provocative, challenging and fiercely imaginative you'll be right at home with The Black Lung's I Feel Awful , set to hit the stage for Queensland Theatre Company and Brisbane Festival from August 31. I Feel Awful is a black comedy about adoration, betrayal, bad art and awful people.
The show is an incisive, pitiless and direct lesson on Theatre from Thomas M. Wright and the members of The Black Lung Theatre. It is a premiere work created for Queensland Theatre Company and Brisbane Festival, with a cast of sixteen.
Queensland Theatre Company's Artistic Director, Wesley Enoch, says Black Lung Theatre Company and Whaling Firm are the naughtiest theatre company in the country. They question every acceptable norm to create a theatrical experience that speaks to a new generation of artists, audiences and critics.
The Black Lung Theatre has won awards including the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Best Production Award; ten Green Room Award nominations; The Adelaide Advertiser Award and Award for Best Venue for their residency in an abandoned building.

Queensland Theatre Company presents Kelly
Queensland Theatre Company presents Kelly...
Ned Kelly sits in a grimy cell at Old Melbourne Gaol on the night before his execution. His brother and fellow gang member Dan, who Ned believes died at the siege of Glenrowan, visits disguised as a priest. He's seeking Ned's blessing and forgiveness before heading north to start a new life in Queensland.
But after everything they've been through together over the years, and how all of this has affected them, a blessing is not an easy ask. Brothers of the same blood and name, but with very different perspectives of their past. Cowards, murderers or heroes? Life or death? Now, at the end, they confront each other, striving to understand each other.
Referencing historical events, Kelly is the latest literary achievement of Brisbane-based playwright Matthew Ryan (boy girl wall, Sacré Bleu). It is masterfully balanced with light and shade, and the quick-fire banter between the characters resonates with a crass but irresistible brand of Australian humour. Kelly is a fast-moving, action packed story which portrays the infamous cult heroes in a totally new light.
Warnings: Coarse language, adult themes
Showing from 15 September - 20 October, Cremorne Theatre QPAC.
