Best places to eat in Hamilton, New Zealand
Hamilton city New Zealand aka The Tron as it is affectionately known to many Kiwis in NZ. Who would have guessed that within this cosy little city there is an array of great dining experiences and such scenic prettiness to uncover.
In this episode we'll show you some places to eat, where to stay in Hamilton, and we also visit Hamilton Gardens which is a huge park that features elaborately themed gardens from around the world.
Our first stop in Hamilton also marked the first time we've ever tried high tea. We visited New Zealand's only commercially grown tea estate - Zealong Tea Estate. If you enjoy drinking tea, you'll enjoy this award winning tea experience.
Address: 495 Gordonton Rd, Hamilton 3281
Hours: Monday - Sunday 10am–5pm
We heard that Hamilton has some fantastic Vietnamese food and so we sampled a classic Banh Mi and Pho from Saigon Noon. If you're after some yummy Vietnamese food in Hamilton, Saigon Noon is where to go.
Address: 103 Alexandra St, Hamilton 3204
Hours: Monday - Saturday 10am–8:30pm
Best restaurant in Hamilton, is a phrase used by many online reviewers to describe this next place so we had to try it for ourselves. Gothenburg Restaurant which sat right next to the mighty Waikato river was where we stopped off for dinner during our stay in Hamilton city.
Address: 17 Grantham St, Hamilton 3204
Hours: Monday - Saturday 9am–11pm
To pair with the best restaurant in Hamilton we figured we'd also stop at the legendary dessert joint, Duck Island Ice Cream. Some people have claimed it as the best ice cream in New Zealand and so we definitely had to try it. So many flavours, so little stomach but we still managed to devour 3 scoops. Sorry for the poor dub on this section, the original audio was unusable!
Address: 300a Grey St, Hamilton East, Hamilton 3216
Hours: Monday - Sunday 11am–10pm
If you're looking for where to stay in Hamilton, New Zealand and liked the look of our Hamilton accommodation, we stayed at Nicolas & Bridget's Airbnb standalone studio. It was situated in their private beautiful English garden. Nicholas and Bridget were super welcoming, lovely hosts and their home was in such a nice peaceful place. Thanks again for having us! :)

To film our facts about Hamilton, we visited the Hamilton Gardens. So many different amazing gardens from around the world, all in one lovely location. A must-visit when you're in Hamilton, New Zealand.

Surf Highway 45: Taranaki Road Trip - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – BackpackerGuide.NZ
Day 48: Today we are taking a Taranaki Road Trip down Surf Highway 45! Join us for beaches, pa sites, shipwrecks and the stunning Cape Egmont Lighthouse.
Yesterday - Day 47 -
Tomorrow – Day 49 –
About this video:
It’s Day 48 and we are hitting the road for a New Zealand road trip! Today, we are doing Surf Highway 45 in Taranaki, following the west coast of the Taranaki region to multiple beaches, ancient Maori pa sites, shipwrecks and the beautiful Cape Egmont Lighthouse.
If you want that link Laura was talking about to the 15 Places to Stop at on Taranaki’s Surf Highway 45, here it is
And that link Robin was talking about for Walking Rights:
We hit the road on Surf Highway 45 and first arrive at Oakura Beach, a beautiful black sand beach. Then we jump back in the campervan and head on our Taranaki road trip on Surf Highway 45 to Cape Egmont Lighthouse. This lighthouse has awesome views of Mt Taranaki behind it. We are blown away by the beauty of the Taranaki coast and the Cape Egmont Lighthouse.
As we head back toward New Plymouth, we make a few stops along the way. First at a shipwreck of the SS Gairloch, which is actually found at the southern end of Oakura Beach. The best way to access it is down Timaru Road.
Finally, we visit Te Koru Pa which is an old fortified Maori village believed to be established in the 1300s. It’s an amazing piece of Maori history to see in Taranaki.
So what do you think of Surf Highway 45? Is this a New Zealand road trip you would do? Let us know in the comments below!

New Zealand's 10 Best Attractions according to Rough Guides
New Zealand's 10 Best Attractions according to Rough Guides
10. The glaciers
The steep and dramatic Fox and Franz Josef glaciers can be explored by glacier hike, ice climbing and helicopter flights landing on the snowfields above.
9. Tree ferns
Zealand has a unique ecosystem, its ubiquitous tree ferns sometimes reaching up to 10m in height and providing shade for more delicate specimens.
8. Hangi
Sample fall-off- the-bone pork and chicken along with sweet potatoes and pumpkin, disinterred after several hours' steaming in a Maori earth oven.
7. Surfing at Raglan
A left-hand break that's one of the world's longest, coupled with reliable swells, makes Raglan a prime surfing destination.
6. Moeraki Boulders
The Moeraki Boulders are unusually large and spherical boulders lying along a stretch of Koekohe Beach on the wave-cut Otago coast of New Zealand between Moeraki and Hampden. They occur scattered either as isolated or clusters of boulders within a stretch of beach where they have been protected in a scientific reserve.
5. Abel Tasman National Park
Here's New Zealand nature at its most glorious and seductive: lush green hills fringed with golden sandy coves, slipping gently into warm shallows before meeting a crystal-clear sea of cerulean blue. Abel Tasman National Park is the quintessential postcard paradise, where you can put yourself in the picture, assuming an endless number of poses: tramping, kayaking, swimming, sunbathing, or even makin' whoopee in the woods.
4. East Cape
New Zealand's East Cape of the North Island is one of the most isolated areas in the country. This region has a reputation for rugged yet spectacular coastlines, rich Maori heritage and culture, and a relaxed way of life centered around Te Moana (the ocean). The East Cape region is where the films Whale Rider and Boy were set and filmed. Both films portray the region's lifestyle fairly well.
3. Otago Central Rail Trail
The Otago Central Rail Trail is a 150-kilometre walking, cycling and horse riding track in the South Island of New Zealand. A pioneering project for New Zealand, the successful cycle trail joined the New Zealand Cycle Trail umbrella organisation in 2012, having been one of the inspirations for it.
2. Wai-O-Tapu
Wai-O-Tapu is an active geothermal area at the southern end of the Okataina Volcanic Centre, just north of the Reporoa caldera, in New Zealand's Taupo Volcanic Zone. The area has many hot springs noted for their colourful appearance, in addition to the Lady Knox Geyser, Champagne Pool, Artist's Palette, Primrose Terrace and boiling mud pools.
1. Milford Sound
Milford Sound is a spectacular glacier-carved fiord in the Fiordland National Park on the west coast of New Zealand and isone of New Zealand's most well known scenic attractions. On display in the fiord is a spectacular combination of mountains, sheer cliffs, waterfalls and marine life. It is the best known of a series of fiords in the park, and the only one which is accessible by road.

Raglan – Hamilton, quoi faire ?

Waimarama, Is a Seaside Village In Hastings District New Zealand
Waimarama is a seaside village in Hastings District, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.
Many residents of Hawkes Bay, especially those in the Hastings District enjoy Waimarama as a seaside recreational beach. There is a local shop/takeaway/bottleshop and a café(Jarks)which brings beach goers from Ocean Beach, another beach a few kilometres up the coast.
Waimarama is a popular surf beach in the area. It is known as a beach break on a sandy beach, with a rocky point. It offers both left and right handers and conditions are often suitable for surfers of all levels. Waimarama can have strong rip currents, the beach is patrolled by the Waimarama SLSC at weekends from November to March.
Motu-O-kura - or as English speakers know it - Bare Island/ is located just off the coast and is a popular spot for fishing and diving.
Waimarama is located at 39°S 177°E on the East Coast of New Zealand, and is sandy on the oceanfront and grassy for farmland behind the sand, this area is quite flat. The land almost immediately behind the beach is hilly and some is used for farming and some for agriculture.
Waimarama has about 240 permanent residents which is a higher population than Ocean Beach. The area has a rising number of developments; many houses that were once baches are now homes.

Devonport, Auckland
Devonport, Auckland
It is the summer holidays now, we went to Devonport town in North Auckland. We visited some popular spots in this town, such as North head and Mt Victoria.
The information below about Devonport town is from the website
Devonport is a relaxed bayside village with upscale cafes and seafood restaurants, as well as classic Kiwi pubs and fish and chips shops. Small boutiques and art dealerships line Victoria Road, while Devonport and Cheltenham beaches draw crowds. The volcanic cone of North Head has harbour views and underground army tunnels. Hikers also climb Mount Victoria, passing reservoir vents decorated as mushrooms.

Rotorua Travel Guide - New Zealand Memorable Moments
Rotorua Travel Guide - New Zealand Memorable Moments
Rotorua is known as the thermal wonderland of New Zealand. Its hot springs and geysers have attracted tourists for over a hundred years. Rotorua sits on the shores of Lake Rotorua of New Zealand. There are several other lakes nearby. Along with the geothermal wonders, there are also the more usual water activities such as fishing, boating and white water rafting. Tourism is a major industry in Rotorua, and for good reason, the tourism services are therefore well developed and visitors should definitely make a stop at the Tourist Information Centre on the main road, Fenton Street.
Rotorua is built over a geothermal hot spot. There are numerous natural vents, hot pools and other geothermal features in and around the city. Many of these are in parks and reserves. Natural eruptions of steam, hot water and mud occasionally occur in new locations. Many places have their own private geothermal bores for heating and water for bathing although private use of naturally occurring geothermal water and steam is controlled. It has recently been refurbished. Wai-O-Tapu is also an entertaining day out.
Geologically, Rotorua is in the middle of the Taupo Volcanic Zone, which is named after Lake Taupo, the largest volcano in the area. There are four major volcanic calderas, which now contain lakes, and several more recognisable volcanoes in the surrounding area. It is this geologically active zone that produces the heat that is needed to drive all the geothermal activity.
Rotorua is about a 3-hour drive south from Auckland, with several nice towns and villages along the way. There are two main routes, via Hamilton initially travelling on State Highway 1 and then joining State Highway 5 at Tirau, or via Matamata on Route 27. The Matamata route is less busy and probably a more interesting bet for travellers, but sections of the road boast the highest accident rates in NZ, so caution is needed. Matamata is where Hobbiton was built for the Lord of the Rings. The set is now a tourist attraction.
Rotorua is one of the most common places to try the traditional maori feast, the Hangi. This earthen oven technique is similar to the Hawaiian Imu and results in a very distinctive smoky earthy flavour - well worth trying. There are numerous places to try a Hangi around Rotorua. There are many hotels, rental homes, backpackers, motor homes, camp grounds, motels and bed and breakfasts.
Heading south from Rotorua takes you to Taupo, a similar town on the side of New Zealand's largest lake. Northwest takes you to Te Puke, Tauranga and the Bay of Plenty coastline, a nice place to soak up the sun. There are two routes; via Te Puke and SH30 brings you into Tauranga via Mount Maunganui.Whakatane is another coastal town in the Eastern Bay of Plenty, with empty beaches and one of the best climates in terms of hours of sunshine. North leads to Hamilton, Waitomo or Raglan and south east into the sparsely populated, and ruggedly beautiful Urewera National Park and East Cape.
