Where is the temple ? Unexplored Temple | Mahamandir | Rao Jodha Statue | Jodhpur Travel Guide |
Rao Jodha Ji statue is located very close to Mehrangarh Fort. Infact, one can easily spot it on the way while going to the Fort. The statue looks beautiful especially in the night when the lights are on. Desert rock park is hardly 10 minutes away from the statue. Furthermore, you can go to Jaswant Thada which is just couple of minutes away.
Mahamandir is a hidden sightseeing, a temple which is been converted into a government school. Happy to see children's getting educated in the school without paying any fees. The temple have pictures of Yoga which is painted thousand's of year back. Also, the 100 pillars is what the temple is famous for. According to me it is a must visit place in Jodhpur.

636 million years old large block of sandstone at Rao Jodha Park in Jodhpur
Denzil Britto says Here you can see a large block of sandstone which we have acquired from one of the mines in Jodhpur and its a very specific place from where we got this rock is marked as the geological hotspot. Because of these patterns which you see on this particular rock and we call them traces. These are one of the earliest crawling creatures or you can say one of the living organism that can travel from one place to another.
The volcanic rocks at Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park were formed somewhere between 745 and 680 million years ago. The volcanic formations are chiefly rhyolite, with welded tuff, and breccia found in some areas.

How the Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park came into being?
Denzil Britto says The Rao Jodha park started in 2006 and we started to work on the ground. First, the task was prepared in 2005 for the groundwork which started in 2006 around April. Our task was to remove the mesquite which was introduced as Mexican mesquite which we even call bablia in the local language.

A holy man sensibly advised Rao Jodha to move the capital to hilltop safety. By 1459, it became evident that a more secure headquarters was required. Chidia-tunk, a high rocky ridge, nine km to the south of Mandore was an obvious choice for the new city of Jodhagarh. The natural elevation was enhanced by a fortress of staggering proportions, to which Rao Jodha's successors added over the centuries. Jodhagarh was on the important Delhi to Gujarat trade route and it greatly benefited from the trade of silk, opium, sandalwood, copper and other items. The Mehrangarh Fort, situated on a 125 m high hill, is among the most impressive and formidable forts in Rajasthan. The construction of the fort was begun by Maharaja Rao Jodha in 1459 and was improvised by Maharaja Jaswant Singh (1637–1680).
The fort originally had seven gates (pols). There is a first gate with spikes to prevent attack from elephants. The Fatehpol or victory gate was erected by Maharaja Ajit Singh in 1707 to commemorate his victory over the Mughals. The other gates include the Jayapol, built by Maharaja Man Singh in 1806, following his victory over the armies of Jaipur and Bikaner.

Udai Mandir - Jodhpur, Rajasthan
Udai Mandir in Jodhpur, Rajasthan is an architectural beauty. Carved sandstone makes up the upper part of the temple gate. The main temple stands on a huge platform and is supported by 102 pillars. Inside Udai Mandir are beautiful wall paintings with 84 Yogasanas. The pictures of Nath Yogis made up with gold are also there in the temple.
The temple also has a Garbh Griha. The upper portion of the Garbh Griha is covered with cloth. Around it, is a railing of finely carved sandalwood, lending an exquisite touch. Inside the temple are gold pots. The main temple also has a grand door that is made up of sandalwood, carved beautifully. The gold polishing in Udai Mandir still has its, almost original, shine and quality. This temple is a must-see for a connoisseur of good architecture.

Chamunda Devi temple in Mehrangarh fort, Rajasthan
The Chamunda Mataji was Rao Jodha's favorite goddess, he brought her idol from the old capital of Mandore in 1460 and installed her in Mehrangarh (Maa Chamunda was the kul devi of Parihar rulers of Mandore). She remains the Maharaja's and the Royal Family's Isht Devi or adopted goddess and is worshipped by most of Jodhpur's citizens as well. Crowds throng Mehrangarh during the Dussehra celebrations.

Jodhpur (Mehrangarh Fort) : Zenana Deodi Chowk
